I'm trying out a pair of Tit Bits knitted forms. They are just the right size and are comfortable, but when I wear them in a bra, they look kind of lumpy--you can see the outline of the stitching. I know several of you love using knitted forms, so I'm wondering what kind of bra you use to give a more natural look. I tend to wear fitted tees, so that might make it more challenging for me.

I'm looking forward to your feedback. Thanks.

    Erica,

You might want to try one of those "t-shirt" bras; I think fruit of the loom makes them. They have a nice layer of smooth padding in them. Also, if the tit bits are made out of a worsted-weight acrylic yarn, they are going to be "lumpier" than something made out of a soft angora or similar synthetic.

    Hope this helps!

Erica I used a fine soft baby yarn for mine and it looks very smooth...

Can you post the link to the knit pattern for this again?  Now that I've learned to knit, I'd like to give it a try.

If you go to the Knitty Titty topic on this forum - it's only a few topics down - the link is posted there.  The website is www.knitty.com, do a search on knitty titty.  I made one in just a couple of hours while watching TV.  Hardest part is starting it - darn needles kept wanting to slip out until I got a few more stitches on them!

I make mine on a Knifty Knitter loom, which requires doubled yarn so it's coarser. But using a combination of Lion's Brand Homespun and a fun fur it comes out smooth, soft -- and completely zany. Feels great against my skin. And a bit of blue fur sticking out along the sides of my bra adds...uh...interest! Wink Love it!

I've tried all kinds.. my favorite and the only thing I wear, if I decide on ta-tas for the occasion, are what I call my cabbage patch titties. The first pair, a friend made for me. They were made with regular pillow stuffing and panty hose. She molded them in breast shapes, and even did a little stitching in a circle in the center. They look more like nipples peeking thru than any store bought I've ever seen. She then stitched them onto a tight fitting tank top. She made them to mimic her own which were too small around for me.. but, I enhanced them and now have a variety of them, sewn into tanks with bras. The extra layer keeps them from rubbing on my still sensitive scars.

Didn't have anyone to do the photos..

here they are, sewn on to the inside part of a bra tank..

    tank top

    here they are on me..

    Riverwoman,

Wow! That looks fabulous! Is that a regular bra tank or a mastectomy bra tank? Also, how did you sew the cabbage patch titties to the tank? It seem like there wouldn't be much to grab on to since it is made of pillow stuffing and panty hose. What a sweet friend you have.

    Thanks, Susan

It's pretty easy.. I use a regular tank top with a built in bra. I attach the titties to the inside part.. I tried just slipping them in.. but they move around. I have tanks in several different colors that I normally wear.

The ones that are shown above are actually the first pair, that my friend made. She is much smaller than I am, and so they are matched to her breast rather than mine. The later ones I made are much wider.. still don't stick out much, but that's ok.. it's all smoke and mirrors anyway!

    Riverwoman,

Thanks for the pictures and the instructions.  I had an aunt 18 yars ago who made hers out of pantihose filled with birdseed. I thought that was a great idea till I found how sensitive my chest was!  I requested pictures in my post on the last thread, before I found this one. Should have read further.

That's ok.. I started to respond, but my minds eye remembered seeing the same name in this thread.

It's pretty comfortable.. much more than any store bought ones I've found. With the cotton tank, that is what touches your skin.

My whole chest, esp. the burned side, is extremely sensitive. I usually feel more self conscious with fake boobs than with none. But the tank tops are so comfortable, that I actually forget I'm wearing them.

I did go and order some soft ones from.. tlc.. the featherweight breastforms.. only 22 a set.. and they say that you can wear them in swimming.. just wrap with a towel and hug yourself real tight to squeeze the water out.

I ordered two sets. Most likely, I'll add a little nipple ring, and sew them into more tank tops.

I have cabbage patch ones in a black tank and a pale green, because those work well with most everything I wear.

I've thought about using one of those super soft pillows that were in walmart a couple of years back.. some sort of styrofoam pellets, I think.. very pliable..

I'm glad that this has helped you. Coming back here has been a great thing for me.

    Patt,

You might take a look at the Still You website (http://stillyoufashions.stores.yahoo.net/products.html). They have something they call a "tank top" but it's really a camisole with pockets for lightweight prostheses. Although I have and like Still You's Illusions prostheses, I prefer to wear my Amoena foam forms (style 126) with the Still You camisoles. It sounds like pretty much the same idea as what you're doing with regular tank tops, only these are made for post-mastectomy women. I am so comfortable when I wear them and love the soft feel of the fabric against my skin. I recently went on a hiking trip and that's what I wore. (When I want to wear a regular non-mastectomy bra, I usually wear my Illusions or, more often, my Airway Tritex form, which is silicone with a microfiber back, so it can be worn in a regular bra.)

    Binney,

Thanks for the crochet directions I looked at the knittytitty website but since I crochet better than I knit these directions are easier. I think that my mom will like these, if not I will donate some to the local wig bank. I went with recon so I don't need them but I know that there is a need out there for these items.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has the instructions on how to make the knittytittys on the knifty knitter round loom ? I would love to make a pair for my 88 year old mother in law who has had a bilateral mastectomy. She is very self conscious about her appearance right now and subsequently doesn't venture out much due to the fact that her clothes don't fit the same. I would truly appreciate any help you can give me. God bless!! Trisha
