I would like to walkt in the Denver Three Day. It would bring me back to such good shape and motivate me to walk so much. But they require each participant to raise $2300.00.  Have any of you done that? How did you raise so much money?

My friend did one and it was tough  to raise all the money.  It came right down to the wire.  She requested donations from family and friends.  Did 3 fund raisers at Walmart.  We helped by raising over 600.00 at a big garage sale (got donations from neighbors and church friends).  She had a Pampered Chef fund-raiser.  A tupperware fund raiser.

Another friend works for a national retailer who promised matching funds so she only had to raise 1150 to meet the goal for her 3 day.

Several of our local eateries will donation a percentage of the drawer on a given day to bonifide fund-raisers. (Applebees is one)

Good Luck.  It's hard work but both my friends said that it was worth all the effort.

My husband did a LLS bike ride awhile back.

I ended up giving hime a pretty good donation, but it was surprising some of the other people who were also really generous.  It was also surprising some of the other people who weren't very generous.

He had quite an email list and we ran a little blog documenting all his training rides with pictures.  I think the garage sale idea is really good. I would reach out to my friends and relatives. People who might not give you cash may have stuff they're willing to part with.

He hasn't done that for a couple of years but we're on the "list" and do seem to end up at resturant fund-raisers and the like. I think it'll be a challenge, but you'll feel really good when you make it!  We still send Christmas cards to his donors. A lot of people do it year after year and they end up with pretty stable lists of friends who help them out. If $3,500 seems like too much you might find a lower-dollar event and do it this year, then work up to the larger ones.

I've done it a few times and am fortunate to work for a large company and know lots of people in it.  I also have a running group network.  YellowRose's fundraising ideas are great.

Is there a group/team of ladies in your area who are regulars at the walk?  We have groups like that here.  They band together to help each other reach the minimum.  And they also train together to get ready for the walk.

We did a survivors calendar recently.  I sold a bunch.  Didn't need the money for my fundraising and was able to make it available to others on our Pink Angels team.

    Good luck!

I was considering the Denver Three Day, too, till I saw how much needed to be raised! It's too much for me to foot the bill, and I hate asking for money (when I was a kid, I bought--and ate--my own band candy, to avoid asking the neighbors!) The fund raising ideas are good, but I have a feeling that with economic times being what they are, charitable donations will be the first to go out the window...

    Good luck!

Hello Morning - I did the Atlanta walk about 3 years ago (memory fails me now)  Anyway it is a huge chunk of change.  I had a buddy who was my walking partner and we petitioned local businesses that we frequented.  Some donated products and services that we then used in a fund raiser / raffle.  Also, we discovered there are local chapters of 3day walking groups and we joined one.  They were large enough that they could actually share "extra" funds with those who were coming up short in the end.  Worth looking into with the 3day folks.

It is a wonderful experience.  Was thinking ever so slightly about doing it again this year here in ATL but I can't commit since I may be facing more surgeries this year.  Maybe next time around.

Oh - one more thought.  You might look into volunteering instead of walking.  I think the $$ they need to raise is less, but that may not be right. Good luck!

My sister did the Komen 3 day a few years ago, and was told that if she didn't raise the funds, she couldn't walk. She had to put up the difference between what she collected in donations and what the amount was she needed to raise and slap it on her own credit card.

There's another BC walk that only requires each member of a team to raise 100.00 which I think is completely doable!
