Please let me know what the Nioxin 2 is though... I try and massage it too...

Nioxin 2 is a shampoo (and there is conditioner, but they are also expensive). It can be found at saloon stores.

I have only used it three times, and crazy as it sounds even my 23 year old daughter ( whoing at home is livieng at home right now, so she see's me everyday) She made a comment "Mom your hair is really growing".

I don't know if my hair is growing that quick or if it is just getting more brown ( I'm naturally a burnette).  But I too am seeing a difference, and this this has just been this last week.

You said you also did Radiation.....Does Radition stop hair growth?

I looked at my shampoo and contioner and its Nioxin 1 so maybe the 2 works better the 1 didnt do anything for me and I used it a long time so I will get the 2 on ebay its seems to be a little cheaper I am going with the cream that is Nixion 2 that you keep in your hair a few minutes and rinse out arent we or I am so crazy to want this hair and buy the stuff the horse shampoo is helping so I wont buy the Nixion shampoo again even if its 2 I am very frustrated with all of it and RAD isnt suppose to stop your hair growth but I dont think any of the doctors know much or care about our hair they just say it will come back. ha if they could invent somehting for chemo hair and no swelling of our arms we wouldnt get so disgusted if you know what I mean I am not vain I just want to fit in and am so sick of people looking at me and saying How are you doing waiting for me to say great they look so sad at me and I look better than befoe the surgery and they wont catch it sorry I am venting and this isnt the place for it but hair is important to us ladies.....

Google Nioxin products, there are so many! Shampoo, conditioner, hair follicle stimulators, etc. I have some cream rinse, and a hair Follicle stimulator, and some other foam stuff all from Nioxin. I don't have the shampoo, but I smear on everything else! Someone here mentioned they thought the hair follicle stimulator is the most important? who knows. I figure it cant hurt! I am gettng very fuzzy! My last chemo was Nov 11th. At first it was slow, now it seems to be spreading and thickening. I also lost a lot of my eyebrows after chemo was over, all eye lashes, but just for like a moment. Before I knew it, they were growing back in. I now also am getting facial hair again!!! I was hoping the chin hairs would be gone forever, but no dice!!! LOL

     Springtime-

Yikes! Chin hairs......does it count if I haven't had any of those yet?!

I hope I don't grow chin hairs right away!

Yea! I'm mentally preparing myself to lose the eyebrows. Darn! Dang! Damn It!

I am going to have to learn to paint on eyebrows huh!?

Yep, my shampoo is the Nioxin 2 and it does say on the bottle that it will stimulate the hair follicles. In fact this is what my firend and neighbors conference was on....She has worked with hair for over 25 years.  The bottles she gave me are $30.00 each...Yikes! I'm saving the conditioner for a later time.

    Enjoylife-

Funny you mentioned about something to help to not lose hair.....When I first started Chemo...I was introduced to three antinausea pills....then other pilss for the side effects, then pills to help with taking the pills for side effects...I have joked that I might need to take pills for NOT taking pills when I am done with Chemo...LOL!

But there is one pill I would gladly take....a pill for not losing hair! Aaaaaaarh! Maybe someday in the furture....an opportunity for our grandaughters if breast cancer should still be around.

I just read on the net an article written in 2006....

It was about wearing Cold Gel Caps while getting your infusion....it went along the same lines as the ice mittens some like to wear when they are getting their Chemo.

The article stated that the cold slows down the cells in that area.

The problem with cold/ice caps, was they the coldness was uncomfortable for most people.

I don't know.....I think if this cold idea really, really worked then our oncologist or the infusion nurses or Chemo classes would be making this information more available to us, not us finding out by searching the net.

Good morning ladies. I have been reading post since September when I was diagnosed.  It was very helpful reading everyones suggestions and being guided. I thought I should add some of my own now.  I finished 4 rounds of A/C on December 18th and had my first of 4 rounds of  Taxol on Jan 2. My A/C treatments went as planned and the only side effects I did encounter were those from the Nulasta and the steroids.  I was able to deter the mouth sores by removing all acidic foods and drinks. I also did not eat any salty or sharp foods before my treatment.  My doctor has been amazed by how good my mouth is.  I also used sensodyne  toothpaste which has helped.  Regarding hair loss "go with it" as the Kenneth Cole commercial states "We all walk in different shoes" There are great pictures in the commercial especially of a beautiful model who is bald. I did not go with the wig, but did purchase soft baseball caps and turbans. However, I have stopped wearing anything due to the fact my head was getting so hot that I could actually increase my body temperature by 5 degrees.  One thing that I wanted to add was I am a teacher, high school coach and aunt to 12 nieces and nephews and if it were not for the simple honesty of children and young adults I would be an emotional wreck.  My team of high school soccer players were the strength I needed in the beginning with my diagnosis. They surrounded me with their love, honesty and strength. My 7 and 8th grade students have endured the hair loss and my crazy humor and they think bald is beautiful.  My niece who is 4 thinks she should cut her hair to be like aunt kimmy and my Varsity basketball team is working so hard to WIN one for the coach.  They just don't realize I have won already with them supporting my decision to stay on as the new Head coach. If you can surround yourselves with children or young adults the strength you get from them can be amazing. Be strong out there we will endure.

Kayaker I know how you feel the radiation was very easy for me and that had nothing to do with the hair. Everyone is different and my hair just takes alot longer than others but a good thing to do is massage your scalp and shampoo with a good shampoo and cont. the whole time you go through chemo, get a wig that feels good not only looks like you but has to feel good because there is a such thing as bad wig days too chemo can give you different side effects but the threads on here helped me so much with some remedies for the side effects and the doctor can help you also and this too will pass and you will get all your energy back etc every week. Visit the threads on getting through chemo if you have to have it. Hope this helps I got the hoarse shampoo last week and use it and the Nixion not sure which one works best but its Nixion 2 not 1 so go for it and I put a website where it sells with no shipping and alot cheaper than the other places ...Good Luck

my hair is coming back.. but, i expect to lose it again soon.

One thing I did that was kind of fun, was let my kids cut my hair (8, 10 and 14 yrs. old).  they had a blast.  We cut it every 3 days or so... shorter and shorter.  At the end of 2 weeks when i buzzed it they gave me a mohawk.

    heh.

    that didn't last for long.

my 2 sons also buzzed their hair and have kept it super short since this last June

How long should you wait after chemo before using this Nioxin?  From what my hairdresser tells me, it does indeed revive and repair the hair follicles.....(course that might be her sales pitch).....I have 11 more weekly sessions of Taxol to go through.....just wondering about this.............I still have straggles of longer hair on the top (mainly bald there though and on the back) and some around the edges of my scalp......will I lose this on the taxol?

    Thanks,

Deb I would start towards the end of the session although some ladies started before for me it didnt work until it was over and my hair is so slow but I am being patient because as long as I get hair for spring. Make sure you do not spare money on the wig the most comfortable is the best I have been wearing mine since May of 08 so its got its use now I go wigless at home and stimulate the head..... Oh yes check on the site I listed I got my Nioxen so cheap there and no shipping I made a mistake and got it at Pennys and paid alot for the wrong number its #2 is what the ladies on here say to use and I got #1 good luck...

Hi enjoylife, I got lucky on the wig....a friend of mine had a friend who just went thru the whole mess of breast cancer, she wanted to get rid of all the reminders and gave me a human hair wig.....I took it to the beauty parlor, had it cut and styled, cost me $45 but it turned out beautiful.....In fact yesterday at Chemo I met some woman who asked me why if I had been on A/C I didn't lose my hair......LOL, made me feel great!

I wondered about the nioxin and when to start it......I also wonder why some women on here lose the rest of their hair on taxol and others it starts growing back....I guess everyone is different.......

    Thanks for the quick reply!

    dcaudill-

About the Nioxin 2 and your hairdresser and wondering if it is just a sales pitch from your hairdresser.....well my neighbor and friend (and who has been a hairdresser for over 25 years) who I have known for 22 years, also claims the same about the hair follicles as your hairdresser while using Nioxin 2.

Truthfully I don't know if there is truth in the product, all I know is my friend gave me the bottle a while back....and when I told her I wasn't using it yet she asked "why" I told her I was waiting for my hair to start coming in more.....she said no use it now.....since that day I have been shampooing with the Nioxin 2 shampoo and my hair is growing at a quickier rate ( of course it will never be as fast as I want). And this all happened before my 4th and final treatment of Chemo (which was just last Wednesday 1/7).

If nothing else I also use the shampoo because someone cared enough to give me a bottle.

I do like the smell of the shampoo and it seems to have a "cooling" feeling when I put it oon my scalp...I like that!.

Oh! I just pray for a healthy head of hair.....but I mostly now pray for no recurrence.(Which will now be a life long prayer).

    LOL LOL LOL!

Apple I was actualyy thinking of that with using the Nioxin 2 and the Mane and Tail shampoo's.

My problem is I have always put myself on the bottom of the care list. I am a wash and wear girl, no makeup,....always have feed my kids and husabnd and dogs well....but will skip a meal myself.

With this Breast Cancer and Chemo stuff (and Radiation soon) I have already put more time into myself then I ever had too. (Meds for side effects, eating when I don't want to, buying scarves,wigs....and now the worry of eyebrows)

So shampooing with two different shampoos is not going to happen here.

    Great idea thou......LOL!

    Ladies,

On another list, it was mentioned by Deanna that Biotin (Vitamin B7) can make your hair shafts thicker. I looked it up on Web, and it seems to help with hair, nails and bones. Look it up. I am going to try it. It's a water soluable vitamin. What the hay...

I use Nioxin folicle stimulator "juice" stuff and massage my head when I can't sleep. I like feeling the hair that is there! It is now getting more pigment, at first it came in sort of "clear".

I too always use to put everyone ahead and had to adjsut to being divorced after 32 years and the way I look at it is I AM SO WORTH it and if it makes me feel better go for it... Please try it

I will wear it short after a shapping let me know if anyone else is having any luck...

I only have 3 more hercptens and hoping by warm spring not the date on the calendar I will be able to show the hair off its very black and very straight so far I always had natural wavy and curly hair but I will take what I can get now ha ... I feel for all men they must have cold heads all the time. I have bought all the shampoos that said this and that and my hair is just growing at its own pace so dont give up and its hard to be patient and I am very tired of the wig too but the best thing I did was spend alot on a wig and my advise to anyone would be buy tow simialar ones to have a switch off and buy a good one I am talking in the hundreds my wig was 500.00 but I didnt have any where to buy one around here, and I tell the laidies at the chemo lab to invest in a good one you wont be hot in the summer with..Well good luck and please let me know how everyone is doing....spring is almost here but winter has not been that bad at all at least its almost over

Finished Chemo on Jan 7, 2009....My hair too is coming in slow.

My husband laughs because i am excited because I have what I call a 5 o'clock shadow.

I swear every couple days i think I see more hair filling in.

At this point all I want is full scalp coverage....I don't care about how long....If I could only have full scalp coverage then I might take my scarf off at work and let the kids see me.

    Later, Denise

    My hair is finally growing.....

    I am so excited!

I realized tonight that when I place my reading glasses on top of my head, they don't slide right down anymore.....Two weeks ago if I placed my reading glasses up on my head and I just bent forward slightly then they would slide back down.....in fact for months now this is how I would replace my glasses back for reading I would just tilt my head forward and down they slide....First it was a game then I just got lazy......

Oh! What to do, Now I have to actually reach up and use my hand to slide my glasses down.Wink

I'm easy it is the simple things in life that entertain me!

    Ya-hoo....hair keep a' comin'
