My liver enzyme raised slightly during chemo right now. Has anyone had that experience? Is it because of the toxity of chemo to the liver?

I think that it is not unusual since the chemo's are very hard on the liver.  Your onc should be keeping a close watch and if it is too hard then they will change to a different chemo.  Hang in there.  :)

My liver enzymes spiked on taxol then came down but have remained slightly elevated.  My onc says it is probably from the Taxol and that the situation should resolve itself when chemo is done.  One more treatment left!  I'll let you know...  Try not to worry and take care of yourself. :)

Is your liver checked in the weekly blood tests?  I never noticed mine on there.  I dont think mines been checked at all, which makes me nervous.

    newalex,

I had a case of "slightly elevated liver enzyme" TWO different times while on chemo (once in 2006 and another one Nov 20008).  Both resolved itself on the next cycle.  Both times the oncologist wasn't concerned.

    fightinhrd,

If you're on chemo, I'm sure they run blood tests.  They just don't bother telling you unless there's a huge concern and they need to make adjustments to your treatment.  They usually do 3 kinds of blood tests: CBC (complete blood count) that check your white count and red count etc., then they also do Chem Panel (or Metabolic Panel) that shows liver enzymes, kidney functions etc., and the last test is Tumor Markers.  A shortcut way to tell if they run blood tests other than CBC is how many vials of blood they draw.  If they take more than 1 vials, then chances are they are running the other tests.

You can always ask for a copy of your blood test results, that way you can monitor the numbers yourself.  I don't understand all of the  numbers on my blood test, but if they're in the "normal" range I'm happy, if they're not, I ask them what that means.

Mine were up during Taxol also.  Went back down after I finished.

My last chemo (TC) had to be delayed because the liver enzymes were too high. By the next week they had come down, but still were out of the normal range. Because they had come down we went ahead with the chemo. After chemo they have progressively come down back into the normal range, but at the last test (6 mo after chemo) they were still higher than before this all started.

I have had elevated liver enzymes show up while having check-ups

after treatment but they went back down.  I believe things you might

eat or drink might also contribute to this sometimes, not always.

I also had elevated liver enzymes.  The chemo can raise it and also liquer/wine/beer.  I did take milk thistle (herb) supplement which might of helped.  It always went down.  I think it only happened a couple of times. I know one time was after vacation in FL and I had a few liki tiki's.

Mine were slightly elevated almost a year post chemo and this last test just showed them going back with in normal range.

I also had slightly elevated liver enzymes  due to taking Tylenol.  (Wasn't able to take my treatment of A/C+ Avastin,  for 1 week.) After I finished A/C, then I took Taxol.  I am now off all chemo as of 12-6, and I am told now that ALL of my blood is now excellent!  I am taking Avastin every 3 weeks for 10 additional treatments which will now end the end of June, but I am now taking 36 treatments of radiation and will be finished around the 1st of March.

Hope that helps you....just lay off Alleve, Advil, and Tylenol if you can.

Mine were elevated too the second week after my 1st chemo. I’m trying to figure out how TC causes the elevation. I drink over 100+ oz of water a day and run 1 mile a day.
