Hi All!  I just got my third diagnosis, and am scheduled to start chemo next week.  In the past 2 episodes, I had ports implanted - L first, which had to be removed during heart by-pass surgery the next year.  Five years later I had a R put in.  Frankly, I loved them, but don't know if it's possible to have one put in a third time.  Anyone have any knowlege or experience with this?  I need to know soon.  P.S.  I have no interest in a pick line.

    Hi,

I have already had 3 different IV ports installed. The 3rd one got infected so they removed it, but told me that if I were to have IV chemo again, I could have a 4th one installed.

I am on my third port right now. They used the scar from the first port for the entry for the third one. So I guess it is possible!

I am on my third port too!  This last one was put in my arm....inside just below the bend of my arm.  I LOVE this one in my arm.  The seat belt in the car always bothered my chest ports.  I never even know this one is there.  Apparently it is rare to have a port placed in this location.  I think everyone's should be there.  Have to flush it with more stuff because the line goes up to my chest.  Best of luck.  So sorry to hear of your third dx....that is just TOO much.

    Hugs and prayers,

    Bethie

Thanks for getting back to me.  My husband and I are both happy to hear about this - altho' my first reaction was EWWW!..But I agree with the seatbelt issue.  Thanks for the info and hope all is going as well as or better than expected.

My first two ports were in the same side opposite mastectomy.  I had the third port put in on the other side inside my reconstruction because that is where there is some fat.  I do not even feel the needle go in because the nerves have not come back from reconstrucion 4 years ago.
