CA 27-29

I have a test name ca27-29 to see if my chemo work. I was wondering what type of numbers that show that the chemo work or didn't work, I know it not 100%

My onc. uses that test to track my tumor marker levels. Different people have different "normal" levels. My normal is in the teens, a friend of mine has a normal in the forties. I have the test every three months and if the number goes up it could mean that I am having a recurrance. Maybe your doc is looking for a number in a certain range to determine the effectiveness of your treatments.

They generally consider anything below 38 to be normal.  Mine ranged between 40 and 46 during chemo and dropped to 13 after.  This test, like many of the others is not infallible, for some people it tends to be an accurate indicator and for others it is not.  I was diagnosed with brain mets in September yet my CA 27 29 remained at 13, jury is still out as to whether or not it is accurate for me.

How are you doing now?  Very scary stuff.  when were you first diagnosed?  I am extremely nervous everytime I go for blood work. My markers seem to fluctuate the lowest 18 and the highest has been 28.  I was diagnosed 7 years ago, stage 1.  I had blood work today and, of course, im nervous to get the marker results.  Last time (4 mos. ago) they were at 28, so now I await anxiously.  My onc. says that 28 is perfectly normal but it seems that it could go down quite a bit.  My best to you.  I hope you are doing ok.

    Vonnie,

I asked this same question on another post. I was surprised to review my blood work, at breast cancer diagnosis, to see the CA 27-29 test results at 11. With cancer that number should of been at its highest and acutally showed me within normal limits along with all other results. The CA 27-29 blood test result also had a footnote which state these test results are not to be considered conclusive to the presence or absence of cancer. Based on some of the feedback from woman that would be a correct footnote, apparenlty.

I would like to know if my CA 27-29 results showed normal when I definately had cancer  mean that a recurrence will probably not show in future CA 27-29 blood test results? Maybe I will post on the recurrence thread.

    hope this helps
