I still like to round brush my bangs and get a little height out of them, and the back of the head, gotta have a little lift!!
Laura, how old were you? You are cute as a button in that photo!!
-
Yep, the higher the hair, the closer to God!
-
I have been on 3 different glaucoma eyedrops, with the SE of lash growth mentioned.
NADA {sigh}

I did that Olay thing - nuttin'

Dotti, then Texan women are truly holy!
-
Awww, I thought it was just we TN gals!
-
My hair is still big from chemo curls. The longer it gets, the bigger it gets. Who needs to fish out photos from the 70's and 80's?????????
-
Kel - I was 31 in that photo....here's some more BIG hair pics (is that a bird's nest on my head) lol:

-
You sure are a hottie there and now .. I should post that photo of you on the luggage cart!!
-
31!!! You look like a teenager. Very cute.
-
oh, Tina - I have big hair now too - not as big as it was a couple of months ago, as the curls are quickly going. I brought two fine photo specimens of big hair (one when I was 19, another when I was 28), but cannot get them to scan. GRR.

Don't know if this is the right place but I am looking for help with skin care, lotions etc. Skin that tends to be dry, but since I was put into menopause its all over the place. Looking for basic, easy routine for face, and a good cream/lotion for body.

Hi Elaine,
Basic and easy. I like that and don't go overboard with products, etc. I use Cetaphil soap for my face and body - it's a non alkaline soap, which comes in a bar or a liquid from. I use this for cleansing.
For moisturizing, I use Olay products. Olay Regenerist Night at night, and Olay Regenerist Serum for day. Also, at night I use Mary Kay's firming eye cream. It is great.
For body, I use Curel Continuous Comfort moisurizing lotion in the original formula. Works wonders on dry skin.

Thanks for info Raye,
The easier and fewer (fewest ?) products the better I think...stores always give a long list of things to do and use it just seems toooo much. Does the Cetaphil take off makeup as well? Do you wash face am and pm? What is a serum? why use that instead of lotion/cream?
Elaine
-
The Cetaphil does take off makeup. It is just like a soap, but not drying.
Yes, I wash my face in the morning and at night before bed - always have. The Olay Serum is like a lotion, but finer and seems to soak into the face better and more quickly. I prefer it to another Olay product, which is the Regenerist Lotion for the reasons above, although I do like the lotion, just not as well as the serum. ha. Does any of this make sense?
-
My aesthetician told me years ago that if you washed your face at night there was no need to wash it in the morning unless your skin is very oily. I've followed that advice for years with good results. I *do* kind of press a wet, warm facecloth to my face in the AM, though, to help make me *feel* like I've washed. Seems to work for me.
I agree that the number of products some companies tell you that you need to use is mind-boggling. The trick is to know which ones are the ones that work for you.
-
Thanks for the info ladies! It is a bewildering world- this world of skin care.

I use purpose to wash my face (and makeup off) at night. It is extremely gentle, which is what I need for my sensitive skin. Tina's right-- you should never over wash your face, especially if you have dry skin. Washing at night, and using a toner or just moiturizer in the morning is better for your skin.
I use oil of olay complete face lotion (for sensitive skin) fragrance free... not greasy....
-
Beth- do you use mositurizer/lotion in the morning and evening?
-
I use warm water and a rough face cloth am and pm. I follow that with a gentle exfoliant solution that stays on my face, a citrus kind, and then moisture cream.
I've read that eye creams are not needed, just moisture from your face cream. that's all I do. the exfoliant is really a big help and with the face cloth, I don't have to use the gentle buff puff any more to smooth out my 65 year old skin.
For my body, I use Olay (brown bottle, it has oil in it) in the summer and occasional lotion, esp with feet and hands. In the winter I use a new hand made soap I've found that is just amazing-- almost don't need lotion but use it anyway. Its from a family company called Chagrin Valley and they have a great web site. If I get really dehydrated and rough skin, I use an after shower body oil and then dry off. Any drug store brand will do. (you must wash your towels in hot water or they get an oily smell after a while)
Make your time in the shower as brief as possible and with water only warm, not too hot. strips the moisture right off you. If you can skip and do a shower every other or third day(ok, don't get too up set with that, if you don't sweat a lot, it's ok to do in the winter) it will be a great deal better for your skin---just do the bird bath bit and clean the important places. LOL
the fewer things you use on your skin, esp your face the better off you are. I don't do toner, it only makes my skin dryer. Since I don't use soap or other things(except for eyes) on my face, i don't need toner and such. My pic is a few years old, but I still have no wrinkles except on my chin. I give my mom credit for that--good genes and I began moisture at an early age.
-
Yes, I use moisturizer at night after I wash my face. Just a nickel size amount for my entire face, and I gently apply it. The oil of olay complete (fragrance free) is the only moisturizer that doesn't make me turn red and splotchy.
-
Dotti - No wrinkles! That is great. I am jealous. I have a few wrinkles around my eyes. I do agree that genetics play a huge part in the aging (or non aging in your case) process. Did you always keep your face out of the sun as well and never smoke?
Ladies, I took the plunge and got my hair cut. It was getting dry at the ends and had no style as the curl was coming out. Here it is apres cut below (bad pic, but you can get the idea of the cut). It should grow more quickly now that it is healthy.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!!! The blow out is fantastic. Love the color and the subtle highlights... I'm thinking I want to do the same. It looks fabulous.
-
Love your hair, Raye. You are reminding me that I need bangs. Had them all my life until post chemo.
I'm afraid to let any hairdresser I ever met cut/style my hair. The guy I've been going to is great because he hardly touches it. LOL And THAT is $45.00!!!
Maybe I should bite the bullet and spend the bucks to try the top touted guy in my area. I'm afraid he is more hype than anything and I will be highly disappointed and left with unmanageable hair once again. Grrrrrr.
-
WOW!!!!!!! amazing cut and you are simply gorgeous!
Tina, one thing about a bad cut---it grows out, altho I did't belive that when I was younger.
Actually, I have lines about my eyes when I smile, but, yes, no sun, I burn in 10 minutes. Can't say the same about smoking. Also, the weigt gain pushes out extra wrinkles! LOL
-
Wow!!!! I love the cut!!
-
Thanks Girls. This guy can do a heck of a blow out.
Tina, my hair will probably go back to its true unruly state as soon as I wash it, as I cannot blow my hair out properly and flat ironing my hair just makes it way too flat for my taste (remember our big hair conversation?). I'd go ahead and get a little trim if I were you, even if not with the much touted guy, but your regular guy. It does wonders for me. I need change.
Had to restock on a few items. Today I bought some new lipstick in pink (Loreal, not my usual Lancome, due to the current state of the economy), blush from Cover Girl in classic pink and a Loreal eyeliner pencil in Cafe. I am doing strictly drug store cosmetics (except for my powder).
-
Raye, the L'Oreal worked okay but still stunk. Any other suggestions? Have you heard of anything new out there????
-
No, Tina - I don't know of anything else, but will start researching when the weather starts getting nicer.
-
Raye what colors did you use in your hair? What's the deep brown base color (I love it) and what highlights did you use???
I absolutely need a trim, and I want to highlight my hair next week. Here's the dilemma: I adore my dark brown base. I love having very dark shiny hair, so I don't want to change that.
I want very thin highlights in the front top half of my head, but I don't know whether to go for a lighter brown/golden blond color, or do I go for a deeper red highlight like an eggplanty color?
The problem with both, is that after a while the eggplant turns to a orangy red, and the blondish highlights turn brassy and yellow strawlike colors.
I don't know which direction to go. M. loves red, but I'm leaning towards golden light colored very thin highlights. suggestions?
