Anyone starting chemo in June 08

I am toasting right now to our very own Miss Chocolate, Happy Birthday! Thinking of ya! HunkyD
-
Sarah, I already know I am not liking the color of mine but don't want to do anything with bleach in it for a while. Wow, snowshoe race. I haven't put on snowshoes in a very long time. Cross country skies yes. Dreading going back to work tomorrow, so I am celebrating my last day of vacation in my sweats again. HunkyD
P.S. Wyoming, I actually have been using the Nioxin conditioner but don't really think it has been a factor in the growth. I better start saving my money for hair bleach..HeHe!
-
HunkyD, I go back to work tomorrow also so I am hanging out in sweats too.I had a bowl of ice cream for lunch. I have been using Nioxin scalp therapy and cleanser. Don't know if it has helped on not. Maybe just psychological. I'm soooo glad there is hair dye!!!!!!!!
I'm waiting for the wind to quit or at least slow down to start walking again. The wind chill is usually below zero. I don't mind the cold if the wind isn't blowing. My dog doesn't seem to mind as she is the only dog in the world that hates to take walks unless she has both me and my husband to go with her.

Wyoming, I like your style. Ice cream for lunch. I like to walk also and before all this happened I was walking 1.5 miles twice a day on my work breaks. Sometimes I put in another 1.5 on my half hour lunch break. Best shape I was in for a long time. Of course, I was diagnosed with cancer in May and have not gotten back into the routine. Plus....I also am dealing with winter. I have a treadmill that I need to get on until the weather settles. We'll see how getting back to 40 hours a week treats me. Maybe I can suck it up and put in at least a half an hour in the evening on the treadmill. Brrrr...your sub zero temps are cold especially with the wind chill factor. It is 18 degrees here today. So...of course I have couched up with my laptop, husband(football game), and just opened a coors light. Great workout for me. Maybe some popcorn later!!!! HunkyD

Chocolate Lover...glad you are doing well and Happy Birthday.. enjoy it.
Wyoming.. your grandkids are lovely, I hope to have grandkids one day... my two aren't even dating yet. The new generation, I am still trying to figure them out.
As for hair... I have what would be a brush cut and it doesn't seem to grow at all. HunkyD.. I like your new picture.. wish my hair was that long. Sarah, I have a nice mix of brown and grey... I try to make a small mohawk look.....kind of pathetic.. my hubby calls it my grey hawk....he finds this very funny. Yeah, you got to laugh.
Sorry to hear you have to go back to work.... I left work in April and haven't been back yet. Should be going back soon..... ugh.
-
Chocolate Lover - So glad to hear from you and that all is going well. Hope you had a wonderful birthday. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
My hair is coming in grey, too! It has some dark brown in it, but mostly grey. I don't know if I'm brave enough to start messing with the color yet. I sure was hoping that I would have hair by Christmas, but it's still not long enough to go out without a headcover. My husband thinks I should, but my teen sons heard him and told me they thought I should wait a while! At least they're honest!!
I've been trying to exercise, even got my dh to get me a pedometer for Christmas. Hopefully that will help motivate me - if I remember to put it on every day!
Wishing everyone a wonderful 2009,
Kathy -

You might try Tai Chi - very gentle exercises. It is dark at 5 pm, and I used to walk in the evenings. Besides, when the wind kicks up, even though it is not all that cold yet, it is uncomfortable. I live in a gated apartment complex with 400 units, so the area is safe, but I still do not go out when it is dark.
My hair looks like it is going to be the same salt and pepper brown/gray as it was before chemo. I can't tell if it is going to be curly again - I had natural curly before. At least the top part is filling in more. I noticed leg hairs the other day, eyebrows are much thicker than before and those pesty chin hairs are back...
Happy belated birthday, choc. Hugs to all, Nancy
-
Kathy, I got a pedometer for Christmas also. I does make me more aware!!!!
HunkyD how was you first day back? Mine went well but I am a little tired. Everyone wanted to touch my hair, it looks like I have more than I did when I left for the break, but it just filled in.
Nancy I had to shave my legs and my eyelashes are showing. I have hair on my cheek that I never had before. No underarm hair yet. It is weird how all the hair comes in differently.
Everyone have a great week and keep posting. This discussion board helps a lot.

I am wearing sweats all the time too. The really sad part is that they are my sons hand me downs. He had them in the goodwill pile and since I bought them less than a year ago for him because he "had to have them" I was too cheap to leave them in it. I pulled them back out and have lived in them non stop ever since. They are lined and so warm. A fashion no no but oh well! Kelly
ps another good book series is by Dianne Mott Davidson, if you like funny mystery stories
-
Since I have very long legs ( 34 inch inseam) and slacks are hard to find, and usually only black, navy or brown, I have worn men's sweat pants for years. They always have pockets and draw string waist - and come in most colors. They are great for sleeping in and no ironing.
Once upon a time I sewed decorative trim down the outside seams of each leg and added a bit of pizzaz to them. A cute idea for dressing up a plain sweater or sweatshirt is sewing small buttons along the shoulder seam and/or along the outside arm seam. And who does not have a box or tin of buttons???
-
Nancy, you got some long a$$ legs woman. I have to say I like sweats for the lazy days but don't really wear them out my front door much. I don't know why. Now about the buttons.....I might be the only person here that doesn't have a tin or box full, or I don't even think I have two extra buttons in my home. Crazy...I just don't. I used to sew a little and can knit...but I guess I just don't keep a lot of sewing crafts around because I don't have, or make time to do it. Kelly, glad you found the goodwill pile from your son. I wish I would find one. Wyoming...I have made it through two full days of work but am tired when I get home. Especially if I do any domestic activities. This morning when I got out of my 4 runner at work, I spilt coffee all over me. I had my snow boots on and was trying to carry clogs in to put on once inside. Made me mad that my good coffee was gone more than the fact I had it all over myself. KKing...my hair I don't think is represented quite correctly in my avatar...it really isn't that long. I wish I had enough for a nice GreyHawk! Damn! I looked at myself today in my magnifier mirror and I serioulsy look like "Patrick the Wolf Boy" on my face. I am not trying to be rude but that is the first thing I thought. My gawd I am so glad it is blonde. I have read here on the boards that it will dissappear. Anyone else. BBLady, I am not going without headcover yet either. Mine is no where near that stage. Mine is too mousey for my taste also. JAX....WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU? Everyone...have a great evening. Love reading your posts! HunkyD
-
Wow Nancy, I only have a 29" inseam. I have no problem buying pants long enough. I don't wear sweat pants in public only at home. HunkyD, I haven't spilled anything on me yet but I can't finish a project without thinking up something else I need to do. Makes it hard to get anything done. Friday is the end of the semester so I need to get ready for the new semester and students. I have hair blonde hair on my cheeks and chin where I have never had hair before. I hope it disappears or I will probably have to shave.
Kelly I will read you book suggestions. I love mysteries and funny ones will be a great way to escape. Anyone else who has suggestion on what to read let us know. I'm always looking for good books.
Have a nice evening. Wyoming

Long work week. Wyoming, did you get ready for your new semester? When is your checkup with your doctor? I find my shoulder pretty sore after this long week. I cant take NSAIDS very well because of my stomach. Tonight I think I might have to dip into my vicodin. I think I just over did it a bit this week. I have appt. with the rads onc Monday for the final skin check. That should be easy enough. My blood work and regular onc appt is for Wednesday. I am quite nervous about that one. Whatever the blood work shows....I just hope it is good news. I also hope he doesn't get upset that I asked for effexor and then didn't take it.
Not much chitter chatter going on in this squirrel cage lately. Everyone must be busy. Just thought I would post a bit to complain about my anxiety for docs appts next week. My husband has the cold from hell....I just pray I don't get it. Have a good Friday night everyone. HunkyD
P.S. Chipped a tiny piece off the top of a tooth eating a piece of french bread of all things. I think it's number 24 (Kelly would know). Anyway bottom front left. Causes no pain and really isn't visible without a magnifing mirror....so I think I am just going to not go to the dentist for a while. It's just rough on the tounge. I just can't take another something wrong. I had heard that chemo weakens your teeth. (True or False)? Anyone else had any teeth problems? Just curious.
-
HunkyD, What is your job? I'm sure you have mentioned it before but I have chemo brain. I'm tired also from working all week. I'm ready to go for Monday the start of second semester I went to my onc today and GREAT NEWS, all of my test are great!!!!!!!! I was nervous all day but when I walked into the office I became really nervous. My doc says that everyone is nervous and have a right to be. Take a vicodin and relax for the evening. My husband has a cold too and I hope I don't get it. I had my teeth cleaned in Dec. which was two months past my regular cleaning and my teeth were fine. But I wouldn't doubt that chemo was the cause of your teeth since so far chemo can be the blame for so much. It is amazing how much chemo effects your body.
My girl friend and I are going to the movies tonight. We are going to the "Curious Case of Benjamin Button". We haven't been able to get together since thanksgiving. It feels good to do normal things.
Have a good weekend.

Wyoming, did he just do a blood test and breast exam? Bet you are on top of the world with the results! I will bet my blood pressure is way up when I go. I heard that movie you are going to see is excellent...have fun. I am going to take your advice and relax this evening. Might be ordering in pizza. I work for the USDA in a chemistry lab. I analyze water, plant, and soil samples as part of a research group. Not real hard physical work but sometimes the prep work as far as getting the samples and processing them for analysis is hard and requires some muscle. I did some greenhouse work this week which I think (I hope) was cause for my shouler impingement. Have fun at the movie...let us know how it was...HunkyD
-
Hey Hunky: My son's fil is retired from the USDA. We found "our" connection... I think they say that each of us is connected by 7 or fewer "degrees".
-
HunkyD, I had blood work and a physical. My onc is also a hematologist. The 15-3 marker for breast cancer normal range is 0-30 and mine this time was 18. My last blood work in Oct my 15-3 was 24. I was so nervous when the doc walk in. When he said that every thing look great I let out a whoop. I'm sure he thinks I'm a little off. HAHAHA I have the best doctor!!!!!!!!!!!!! How is your shoulder? I think I'm going to get a massage to see if it helps with my aches and pains. I have a gift certificate that I received from my family just before my diagnoses.
The movie " The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" was good. I wish I had the imagination of the people who write and make movies. This was a work of F. Scott Fitzgerald. I might like looking at a Brad Pitt too.
Nancy I think you are right about the "degrees". HunkyD and I have relatives in the Black Hill of SD.
Talk to everyone later. Wyoming
-
Wyoming, I think I am related to half of Wisconsin and Minnesota. My grandad was the youngest of 17 and my grandma was one of 14. My family tree file has over 12 thousand names in it and a work in progress.
-
Hey ladies......glad to here from all of you......sorry I haven't checked in for a while.......made it throught the holidays......kids back to school and I am finally caught up on all the stuff I was putting off.......I have had one fill so far......and 4 weeks out from expander placement ........I am still very tight.......I'm hoping thaat this feeeling will eventually go away.....because it can be pretty annoying by the end of the day.....we'll see.........had a MUGA scan to see how Herceptin is effecting my heart last week.....and al is well......between fills, test and Herceptin......it feels like all I ever do is go to the doctors.....oh well......soon it will all be behind us.
As for reading.......I am currently reading stepenie Meyers Twilight series.....I can't put them down.....give them a shot!
Cheers to all!

Glad everyone is doing alright. I actually went to see a Naturpathic doctor today... it was a free consultation. It was very interesting. I felt after all the treatments, I asked the onc what is next and he said go live your life but call me if you have any pain. I thought, that's it... so I am looking into a way of building up my immunity system and cleaning out the body. Has anyone else seen a Naturopath??? Will let you know how it goes.
Karen
-
Jax, I have read the Twilight series also but I need the last one. I'm waiting for my daughter to finish it. Have you seen the movie? I didn't see it when it was here, but some of my students saw many times. I hope you start feeling some comfort. I only had a lumpectomy so I don't know what you are going through.
Nancy you come from a big family. My dad was one of ten and my mom was one of four so not so big.
Karen I have never heard of a Naturpathic. I doubt there is one close to where I live. Let us know what he/she says.
Stay warm and have a good night.

We had a bit of snow here so my Dad drove me to my radiation appt today. I didn't need him to but he was visiting and said it would make him feel better to do it for me. Is sure is hard to see your parents upset over your cancer. I am happy that I can truthfully tell him and my mom that I am doing fine. Then they left to return to Rapid City and I had a nap rather than going out anywhere. I even fed my daughter waffles for dinner. Sometimes a lazy day is best...
I hope you all have a good week. Kelly
-
Kelly,
Um, what's wrong with waffles for supper. Kids can quickly learn to cook for themselves. And even for you! My daughter covers hers with yogurt.
Sarah
-
Kelly, my Mom lives in Hill City, SD. It was hard telling my Mom and family as we lost my Dad in Feb 2008 of kidney cancer and I found out at the beginning of May 2008. My grand-daughter was born two days before my Dad died. It was like he was waiting for her to be born. That thought helped all of us. Change of subject, I had cereal for dinner tonight so waffles are OK!!
Hair continues to grow. Still can't tell what color it will be. Still so soft. I've had some of my students ask if they could touch my hair. I just laugh and let them touch it.
Have a great end of the week.

Sorry about your Dad (((wyoming))). My son was married 3 weeks after my diagnosis, so I put everything on hold until the Monday after the wedding, then spent 2 days on the phone lining up appointments, tests, scans, etc. Is Hill City anywhere near Sturgis? The home of THE Harley Rally each year.
My hair is almost long enough to go bare headed in public. If it were only summer time, I would be in heaven but with temps in the 20's, I will still wear a hat when outside. And I have the bushiest eyebrows I can ever remember - hope they stop before I look like Walter Matheau !!
-
So sorry to hear you lost your dad Wyoming....I don't know if it is true for everyone, but many times a father and his daughter are very close. I know I was. I was the only girl in our family with three older brothers. Anyway, what a hell of a year you have had. I guess we all haven't had a very good one. My hair is also growing but a color I am not fond of. I just am waiting for it to get long enough to bleach I guess. I still am not going topless. I look to much like one of my brothers, plus, like you Nancy it is a bit chilly for me here. I have been plucking my eyebrows with caution. I hear they fall out again. Crap! On a good note, my checkups went fine this week. I am released for three months. KKing...I haven't done anything with a naturopath either. Let us know what kind of lifestyle you have to to lead. You might be buying a juicer? I just am still trying to shed the chemo pounds I gained. Jax....good to hear from you. Hang in there with your expanders. You have a great attitude. How long is your hair? You able to french braid it yet? Hehe!!! Kelly, I'm with Sarah...nothing wrong with waffles for dinner and having a lazy day. That reminds me of books...I have not read any of the Twilight Series. I will get to them maybe sometime. I am reading a book called Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill. He is Stephen Kings son, and the book is "yes" a horror novel. Following after Daddy I guess. Well, I have a three day weekend coming up after tomorrow....Yea! I need it too. Take care ladies...HunkyD
-
Nancy, Hill City is in the central Black Hills. It is between Rapid City and Custer. You can get to Mt Rushmore, Keystone, and Harney Peak from there. My eyebrows are bushy but not too dark yet. I'm afraid to pluck them so I will let them do their own thing. HunkyD I was very close to my father. I have two other sisters but my dad and I had a special relationship. I'm so glad the 2008 is over!
AS IS ALL OF US on this thread. I like Steven King too so I need to get "Heart Shaped Box" by Joe Hill. I'm a book whore. I read just about anything. Glad to hear your checkups went well. I go back in three months too. Jax keep up the attitude about your expanders.
My husband is building a shop so I will be feeding all the men he has invited to help him. Good thing I like to cook and feed a crowd.
Have a great weekend. I will check in throught out the weekend.
Wyoming
-
Wyoming, how is the shop going? Hope you didn't have to cook to much. Big pot of chili would have been my plan.....but then I guess I wouldn't want them hanging around in the house after they ate it very long!
Been just lounging and reading more today. Later....HunkyD
-
I fed all the boys sloppy joes, chips, and jello. I also made some cookies. They are getting a lot done on the shop. All the walls are up and the rafters. I got to have my grand babies and we played a lot. I'm ready for bed. Enjoy the lounging and reading.
Take care. Wyoming
