Good Sunday afternoon, Jewels.  Boy!  Where did the holidays go??  Like our teacher-sisters, I was off work the last two weeks.  Going back tomorrow will be a rude awakening.  But, it’s been wonderful being home and on vacation.  We’re already planning another trip to Colorado.  DH finds it easier to fly there each week and do his thing.  I’d like to go with him for the MLK holiday and go skiing at DS’s Winter Park Resort.

I have to tell you all about my ski purchase.  I haven’t had new skis in about 15 years.  Technology has come a LONG way.  I’ve been doing a lot of research and decided I really didn’t want to lay down a lot of $$ for them.  I found that K2 made a ski in 2006 called “Just Cause”.  If you’re not familiar with K2’s women’s line, it’s really amazing.  They have an entire department that researches and designs ski gear by, and for, women.  Anyway, the “Just Cause” package was created in support of breast cancer awareness, with 1% of the sales being donated (in addition to K2’s annual donation of $100K) to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  Check out this old link at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/K2-Cause-Marker-Bindings-167cm/dp/B000WI58DO.  Of course, being two seasons old, I couldn’t find these ANYWHERE.  Just had to have them, though!  My ultra-internet-sleuthing DH found a brand new pair on Craigslist.  Some guy in Montana bought them for his survivor Mom, but, she decided she had “outgrown” downhill skiing.  YAY for me!  Not only did they have the cute pink ribbons on the skis, they came with color-matched Marker bindings and similarly designed poles, get this – a little pink crystal “diamond” imbedded in the grips of the poles!!  Talk about a January Jewel!  I’m very excited about this find!

Julie – Isn’t the whole ps thing amazing??  It’s good that you’ve got someone who is very particular…I do, too.  He’s got a very dry way about him, and he’s very serious, but, brilliant.  We have gotten him to laugh every now and then!  Your description of the construction of the nips sounds just like mine.  Your areola piece is quite interesting.  I’ll just be having a tattoo, which I’ll get on Wednesday.  I haven’t tried the Mederma yet, think I’ll give it a whirl.  It’s a bit more expensive than the stuff I am using now.

KathyL – YAY on the MRI and the port removal!  Let’s see…we can think up something new to explain the craziness…let me work on that.  Got the new Bon Appetit!  Am loving it, thank you again!  DH and I made shrimp gumbo yesty, was a recipe from Emeril, took it to our neighbor’s house last night and enjoyed it with her.  I’ll really miss our wining/dining buddy when we move, we’ve been trying to coax her into relocating with us!

Carol – Isn’t technology something?  Like that zillow.com site.  We’ve used that while researching houses in Colorado.  It’s a little creepy, too.  That picture was taken a while back, three “cars ago” for our youngest son, which is parked right in front of the place! LOL  We do have a nice neighborhood.  We live 1 block from an elementary school, and are 5 minutes from MSP airport, but, are in a small triangle that doesn’t get any plane traffic overhead.  We’re 3 blocks from the Mississippi River, 3 blocks from Minnehaha Creek/Falls/Park, 3 blocks from the light rail.  There’s a parkway along the creek where all of the marathons/runs take place, and is also a wonderful walking/biking path.  The past couple of years, it appears people are wanting to move back into the city, so, they’re “taking back” neighborhoods that had gone into disrepair.  We’ll be having a realtor preview on Tuesday, and an open house next Sunday.  We hope there will be some interested people coming through.  Here’s a link to a tour of our house that the realtors put together: http://spacecrafting.com/ssp.aspx?id=1430d9d1-0d60-40e8-b9ba-43b702f4183

There’s a very exclusive neighborhood east of us, on the other side of St. Paul, called “North Oaks”.  It’s a gated community, I believe houses start at the $1 mil mark there.  They’ve got a lawsuit against Google maps (and probably zillow, too) to try and block them from coming in and filming their streets and homes.  It appears they’ve got the law on their side, as their streets are all private roads, not city streets.  Don’t know what to think about that…I guess that’s their right.

Kimberly – How’d you like “Forever Plaid”??  We saw that here a while ago, it had quite a long run and faithful following.  I thought it was really great.  Santa was very good to me this year, I was surprised with two tickets to see my all-time favorite band, The Pretenders!  They will be here in Minneapolis at First Avenue (Prince’s former place) at the end of February!  I’m so damn excited, I can hardly stand it!!  Chrissie Hynde is…well, who I wanted to be when I grew up!!  LOL
On top of that, we’ll be traveling to Ohio – Nelsonville to be exact, to see one of our favorite bands, Cowboy Junkies.  They are touring this year, but, Ohio is the closest to MN that they’ll be.  So, we’ve got tickets to see them at the Stuart’s Opera House in early February.  2009 is the year that I do more of this kind of thing…  ☺

Paula – LOL at Guitar Hero!!  Did you ever see the South Park episode with Stan and Kyle playing GH?  OMG  LMAO!!  Google it…it’s a crack up.  That shit is hard…I tried tennis-doubles with some friends’ children during Thanksgiving.  Holy cow!  Am I bad!  They kicked my butt all over the place!  I am thinking, now that DH and I are empty-nesters, we need to get a Wii – won’t the boys be pissed!  Ha ha ha

Like so many of you, we have un-holidized now.  All the Christmas dec’s are gone…it’s a little sad.  Geez, I never even got out my holiday houses.  I have a large collection of those Dept. 56 light-up houses, mine are the “North Pole” series.  Very cute and pretty all lit up at night, but, just a whole lot of work!  Next year.

Off to heat up some gumbo and get ready for the games this afternoon.  Jeepers, I started typing this and it was still "morning", had to go back and switch the salutation to "afternoon"!  Sorry about that!  Tongue out

Ah, Carol...you posted just before me.

We keep Joey in a kennel, in our room, at night.  He's better that way, because the cat "roams" the house -- he just HAS to keep up with her, making for a sleepless night for all!  His kennel is his little "man cave".  He's got a nice fleece blankie in there, and a few of his favorite stuffed animals.

D1 - Go Vikes!  Oh, my, but it does remind one of the "Purple People Eater" days...geez, was that a lifetime ago, or what?!?!  Fran Tarkenton...Carl Eller...Alan Page (now sitting on the MN state supreme court, go figure)...Jim Marshall...Gary Larsen (hall of famer, I think).

    Happy Sunday friends!

    Hi Jewels!

Thanks for the cards Paula and Kimberly and D1.

KathyL - Yes, Lucy is a bichon frise. The breed has the characteristics of being friendly, happy, gentle, sensitive, playful and very affectionate. Lucy fits all these and more. She is just what I wanted in a puppy. I feel so fortunate to have found her. The only drawback to having a bichon is that they need grooming on a regular basis (every six weeks) and this can become pricey. I am also lucky that I found a groomer that has a home business and doesn't charge as much as others in the area. But she is worth every cent!

Kimberly - yes I am trying to get ready for back to school tomorrow. The 2 weeks flew by!  And this month I have lots of testing, meetings, and IEP's to start. It my least favorite time of year.

I hope everyone has a good week to start off 2009!

Slow, lazy weekend.  Just what I needed!  Dh and I put all the decorations away yesterday.  The house looks bare without them.  Gonna have to find something to keep the mood bright until spring comes (which in DE, I swear, can seem like May or June!). The kids go back to school tomorrow. Dd is still young... she's excited to go back and can't wait to see her teacher again.  What's up today with everyone else??

Tina:  OMG, Joey is sooo cute!  I showed dh the pic and he just harrumphed.  He wants a break from pets when our 3 are gone (1 dog and 2 cats).  NOT!

Glad you like the Bon Appetit.  I just got the Feb. issue-looks good.  Let me know if you try anything and how it works out.

And I used to love watching South Park.  Brings back some memories... I used to LMAO, too!!

Carla:  Hope the shot works for your elbow.  How are things on the home front these days?

Kimberly:  I also loved your New Year's card and letter.  I should do one next year...

Carol:  Your fondue dinner should yummy!  We got a fondue set when we got married and returned it b/c we never thought we'd use it... duh!  Wish I hadn't now...

And I must say, your plans for the New Year have me feeling guilty about not doing more.  Maybe I should resolve to try and do some real exercise, something more than just chasing the kids around.  Dh and I got ourselves a Wii for Christmas, and the Wii Fit.  Maybe I should actually take it out of the box...  I've only played Guitar Hero so far; I'm not much of a video game person.  Also got Jillian's fitness program for the Wii (the chick from Biggest Loser), so I could do some serious workouts if I ever got the time.

Julie:  Oh Thank God, your tissue was from your belly!  I thought it came from DOWN THERE!  I'd read some stuff that surgeons used to use the labial tissue before they found some other ways to create nips.  Ouch!

I'd love to get a new dining room set this year.  We'll have to see how far out of the hole we get for the first half of 2009.

Patty:  LOL on your Walmart hot flash!  I can only imagine what that was like.

Well, GTG.  Dh is watching the Eagles/Vikes game and it seems to be a good one, so I want to catch what's left of the game. TTFN!

Well, it's Sunday eve and back to the grind tomorrow morn - NOT ready for it yet!! With surgery right after we got out, it doesn't seem like I've had enough time! Oh well, can't do much about it - better plan to show up for work tomorrow, huh? I'm sure my fellow teachers are right there with me, right girls??

Donna - so glad you checked in again! Your New Years sounds fabo!! I'll be thinking of you this week - hope things go well and all your results are good. Please let us know when you get a chance.

D1 - leave it to you to put all of our thoughts into words for us!!  FUBC, indeed!!!

Kathy - I'm so proud of you putting your bgp's on and facing your MRI! Wooooohoooooo on those negative results!!!!  I'm with you on Vegas as the Jewels reunion site - never been and would love to go. I also may have dh in tow as he's never been either - we'll be having our 20-yr anniversary in August so maybe we'd make it an anniversary celebration too.

VETTEGAL!!!!! Patty - so good to see a post from you!! You're another missing Jewel I've thought of often! I'm so sorry to hear you've been having some health issues - I have a co-worker with the same diagnosis and, once she adjusted, she's done very well. HI and HUGS to Vetteguy too!! And you come here and vent anytime - there's always someone here to listen and offer some encouraging words.

Kris - thinking of you lots today - hoping your "instant implant" hasn't reoccurred. You crack me up!

Kimberly - thanks for sharing your video!! What an awesome sight! Sounds like you had a wonderful time.

Carla - sure hope your tennis elbow gets better soon - what a bummer. How, exactly, did you get that? I don't recall you playing tennis often!!

Carol - sounds like an EASY choice to me!! I'd be right there with you by the fire, girlfriend!! Hope you enjoyed your day. And, btw, people still play golf with the weather you've been having???

Tina - your new skis sound so cool!! And how awesome that dh found a new pair for you even after they don't make them anymore. BTW - tried the web address you posted, but it says "Photo album is not available" - any ideas?

Caught just a little bit of the Vikes game, but missed the end....guess I need to check the web and find out the results.

Better get ready for bed --- early morning tomorrow.

Hope to check in this week as time permits!!

    HI Jewels,

I just wanted to say thank you to SIS Kimberly for the Christmas card and letter. I really enjoyed it. It was a busy crazy year for everyone. Loved the poam, so true.

Julie  I love your fire works hope you also had a nice Christmas. Its so good that Jewels are coming back to site and letting us know they are all ok. I forgot to mention are you healing ok from Surgery?  I forgot you were getting new nips for Christmas.

Cathy CA  So glad you only have one treatment left. Sometimes I forget some jewels are still in treatment. Go kick some cancer butt. FUBC.

D1  Loved your post this week, you cracked me up, I needed a good laugh. Hope dd gets feeling better soon. Poor thing, she sounds like my dd. One year when my daughter was playing varsity soccer she broke her big toe and kept on playing. I don't think she missed a game. She just taped up her toe. I was taping then she decided she was a big girl and can do it herself. I also felt Vassar should of accepted your daughter. The loss is Vasser's.

I'm glad Tina and Donna and Vettegal and Vettehubby is back too. I'm still catching up on post. It will prababley take me till next year to catch up. No just kidding, I almost lost my post hitting the wrong button. Whew that was close. What a cute pic of the dog in the snow. Sorry you have been sick. That is great you won a trip, you needed it.

Carol  Sounds like you also had a nice Christmas too and as always you are out of control. No just kidding.

KathyL  Hope you are also feeling better, not fair to be sick on Christmas. I'm also starting to feel better.

Not much going on with me, some depression. That stupid work at home job messed me up. I have not worked in 2 wks. Some dough head put the wrong birth date on my file and I have not been able to work for the last 2 wks. I hate looking for work when I live in a state that has no work. They act like its my fault and I'm being punished for it. What a bad company, I guess i'm lucky I got my paychecks. 2009 is already shaping up into a bad year. I don't know maybe there is something better out there for me. (I don't know). Your post make me feel better, I think I'll just read and take my mind off things. Sorry to go on and on.

    Hugs, Sherry

Tina  I wanted to say that is really great that your sons have moved and getting their education and working and enjoying their lives. Really great that you and your husband get to move to CO. It looks like everything is working out great for you. Hope the house sells soon.

Kimberly  I forgot to tell you, yes, my bruises are healing on my leg, I'm going to watch it. I'm sorry Palady had a close call but it will make the rest of us on Tamox more watchful of what's going on with our bodies. My ear infection is getting better finally, it still feels like something is in my ear, that just drives me nuts. Sounds like San Fancisco was excellant. I also used to watch the fire works from my apt when I used to live in Woodhaven, I had a huge living room window as big as a wall. My cat and I used to watch the fire works every year from that window. My cat Merlin loved the fire works, He is in heaven now.

D1  It sounds like we are having similar spells with the Tamox, I have nights where I lay there all night awake and I can't take the drug during the day it makes me sleepy and confused. I also have been suffering from depression and afraid to tell anyone, afraid I might end up in the loony bin lol. Maybe its not such a bad place after all, I don't know.

Carol  Love your dogs so cute.

Yeah, Patty, if the Steelers and Ravens both win this weekend, we'll have a bit of a competition on our hands...  I have to admit that when I lived in PA (Altoona) I was a Steeler fan, but that was back in the Terry Bradshaw/Franco Harris era (a loooooong time ago!)

Tina, I have to say that Joey is adorable!! Is he purebred?  I never saw one with the coloring he has.

I always think I'll keep up with you all, and then it never happens (sorry!)  But I do peek in here fairly often.  Anyway, I wish you all a happy and healthy New Year!

Good evening, sisters.  Well, I had to quietly borrow the BGP’s today.  I had the regularly scheduled check-up with the onco, and confessed that I had stopped taking the Tamox.  DH is so great, on our drive over to the clinic, he asked me to tell him what I was goingto say to the doc, and how I was going to say it (a “dry run” if you will).  He often does this for me when I have to give big presentations.  He gave me a few tips and I practiced my speech.
The reason for this somewhat elaborate effort, is that I was convinced I’d get pushback from the onco, and, that she might try to convince me, or, shame me into giving Tamox another try. Much to my astonishment, she was welcoming of my explanations, and, offered some other choices.  One of them being the ooph.  My appointment was late in the day and she was running behind schedule.  So, they’re going to run the hormone test to make sure it’s lining up with the fact that I haven’t had a visit from Aunt Flo since Feb.  I’ll find out Wednesday what the next steps will be.
Thanks for the use of the BGP’s, they came in handy and I feel good about the results of the appointment.  Stay tuned.
    D1 – Maybe a better response to last night’s game would’ve been, “UFFDA”.  ☺
CHJ – Yes, Joey is purebred.  He’s a long-haired wiener, which is turning out to be good in our neck of the woods!  Apparently, they were cross-bred with springer spaniels resulting in the “fringe” on the ears, legs and tail.  His pattern is referred to as “pie bald”, which are descriptive of those big sploches.  The breeder registered his color as “blue and tan”, although I think it’s more like chocolate (but, what do I know?).  He’s got these very unusual blue-grey eyes.  He’s been a lot of fun.  It’s nice to have the little guy around with DH traveling so much.
Sherry – Thanks for the good wishes on the house.  It went on the MLS today.  And, I’ve gotten a call for a showing for Thursday already!  I hope this is a good sign.  I think I read somewhere that 30-year mortgage interest rates had dropped below 5%.  WOW!  Our little house would be a good one for a first-time homebuyer – move right in!
I am thankful our boys are doing so well.  I never thought I’d make it through those high school teenage years…they were both challenging in their own ways.  Whew!
I’m sorry to hear about your issues with Tamox, too.  Any chance to try something different?
Patty – What a great picture!  Everyone’s updated photos look so good!  Mmm, I love those little Taco Bell doggies!  They come in different coat lengths, too, I think.
Jules – Hmm…don’t know about that link…probably because they aren’t available anymore, must have been too old. Are you a skier?
Carol – How ‘bout the Bronco’s?  Of course, they just fired their long-term coach.  I think he’d been with the team (in various capacities) for almost 21 years.  Thank you very little…
Okay, off to tidy up the house, with all this realty business, tidy is my middle name…D1, you’d be proud…I took a Q-tip to the fancy-dancy stove top!  LOL
    Nighty, night.

    Hey Jewels,

My old Gateway limped into the new year and coughed up its last pixel on New Year's Day. So, I'm sharing ds's laptop until my new Mac arrives. I've always had a desktop, but decided to go for a laptop this time. They are so handy.

The first day back at school went well, although I confess I am pooped this evening! My time off sure went by quickly. I'm a bit anxious about leaving dh at home alone. He's still quite confused at times... wanders around in a daze. He's just finished with round 2 of his chemo, so hoping he gets back to normal soon. In the meantime, I've arranged for his two retired brothers who live nearby to check in on him and I'll be coming home for lunch. One day at a time...

So, happy 2009! Our NY eve was quiet, but nice. I enjoyed your fireworks, Kimberly. What a view!

Hey Sherry- glad to see you're feeling better. What a way to ring in the new year with an ear ache and UTI- double trouble for sure! I see you've had a glitch with the work-at-home job. Hang in there. After what you've survived in the past year, this is small stuff. ((Hugs))

Carol- your phone call was the highlight of my Saturday. Thanks for the chat! I forgot to ask about Zach, but I see he started PT today.

Donna- warm weather, a beach and a beautiful sunset.... What a beautiful way to usher out the old year and welcome 2009! I'll be watching for the pics when you get home. You're in my prayers as your doctor's visit come up Friday. Got my fingers crossed for good news.

D1- you dropped the F-bomb (my kids' lingo) so many times in that NY Eve post that my granny woulda been after you with a bar of soap! Made me chuckle! Watched part of the Vikings game Sunday  and I said a WTF in your honor.

So, hope dd's finger is feeling better.

You have every right to get soapboxy about Tamox. You've been a trooper taking that stuff with the SE's that you're experiencing. Somethin's gotta give...

Ah, there's an update on your BIL. Sounds like he's doing well!

Kathy- oh, my! Sorry to read about your illness and hospitalization before Christmas. Glad you made it through the holidays and the MRI... and reading on- good news from the MRI! Hallelujah! And the alien implant comes out Friday, I see. I hope you removal goes easy- you'll be glad to be rid of that sucker, I think!

Patty- good to see your post! Bummer about the celiac disease- a definite PITA, huh? Good luck on adjusting your diet to stay healthy.

Glad to see vettesis is doing well and a big HOWDY to Vetteguy!

Kris- Dang! Hope things settle down with the drainage. What's the doc say about all this? I see D1 had a similar experience with her lumpectomy... makes me cringe just thinking about it...

Kimberly- thanks for the letter. I was pleased to get a hard copy of your NY poem. I shared it with my work family today and they loved it!

Tina- awwww, Snowy Joey is adorable!  I couldn't get the link to work, but I did find your house on Zillow. It looks great.

Pink skis and poles, huh? That's a new one. You'll have to get a pink ski ensemble and post a pic!

Carla- tennis elbow... yikes! Hope the steroid shots helped.

Julie- so, the girls are looking good, eh? I had to chuckle at Kathy's comment about using labial tissue to construct new nipples... lips for nips? Makes me shudder just to think of it!

Glad things worked out with the new vehicle and you got one you liked even better than the first one. All's well that ends well!

CHJ- I watched the Ravens make toast outta Miami yesterday. They're playing well.  I'm not a Dolphins fan, but we follow them b/c their QB, Chad Pennington has a WV connection- his wife is from our town.

Better post this and go get ready for tomorrow. Still have to iron my uniform... I'll be dressing in scrubs a lot over the next few months as I take the kids out to the hospital for clinical training. We're working in the lab right now and will start in the hospital in February.

    Take care all!

Tina, I'll be curious to hear what your onc as well as the other ER positive gals whom are considering ooph have to say about taking an AI as well. I know that when my hormone levels checked out that I was in full menopause he decided at that point to forget about Tamo and go straight to Femara. If having a ooph would elminate the need for an AI I would like to revisit the issue as well. Good question for my own onc next month ... At work, back tonight... Carol

The ooph topic is a good one. If i do have the hyster,,,do i need to change my tamox to something else?

Has anyone seen the website www.stopflashes.com with this "natural" rememdy for menopause symptons.  Actually Vetteguy brought it to my attention..I guess me keeping him up at night with those darn night sweats "may"be getting to him....LOLTongue out

I was tring to read what it said about breast cancer and taking it. Couln't find a thing on it.

    Good Tuesday Eve,

So we'll see what happens tonight, if I lose this word document or not. The wind is howling outside, a great topper after the snow, which we we're nailed with again on Sunday night. You must remember us Washingtonian's are used to ugly gray days in the winter, but not such extremes of the last few weeks. Thinking I'd be smart to start a fire just in case the power goes out. The dh is out of town, and the thought of having to fire off the generator is not too thrilling.

CHJ, so it looks like I can easily jump ship to Baltimore for my next playoff pick. It's kinda funny to think I would have never spent any time thinking about other areas of the country in regards to sports, weather, yada-yada, and now I actually mention about so and so that lives here or there ! Heck even my dh would ask, now who lives there, when I mentioned to him about cheering for a certain team.

Tina, personally I'd be all over those skis. Sorry CHJ (I know you we're about pinked out this past Fall !!!!) I checked them out on the Amazon website ... too cool, hope you get the chance to sport them on the slopes in a couple of weeks.

Happy tatoo-ing tomorrow ... I believe we may have missed some of your details of your recon process, then again we're following Julie which apparently is familiar to yours.

And yeppers on the Zillow site being a bit weird. I have noticed that some areas such as yours have a street view, where other areas are strictly overhead (such as ours), atleast that is the only way I know to view the site. With our home I could tell what time of the year the pic was taken as I had no annuals in the front flower beds and we've also changed a vehicle. Amazing technology from many years ago, huh?

    Q-tips ... and I thought D1 was the only "anal" one !!!

D1 ... okay, sorry had to bite on that one !!!! Feeling the need to hear the D1‘s voice for a pick me up ... figure I'll wait until the dd's are back in school and your spending some day time hours in your "machine".

Joan, so does Lucy strut her stuff after a trip to the beauty parlor ???? The neighbor's poodle seems to have a little attitude when "he" gets home from getting a new do !!!

Kathy, oh I hope you are enjoying every little thing about your kids, which I know you are ... hearing about your dd looking forward to going back to school to see her teacher is such a distant memory here. My son was all over the news broadcast Sunday night hoping for another day off due to snow ... thankfully they we're just 2 hours late ... at this rate they will be in school in July !!! Bottom line ... I always enjoy hearing about your kids and their enthusiasm about so many things.

Bummer on dumping the Fondue pot. For me it was "my pick" at my parents house for my birthday dinner. Mom always made some sauces for dipping and had filet mignon and large shrimp to cook (although not the most healthy as you cook your meat in very hot oil). We've done it a few time for guests, in fact I inherited my mom's fondue plates which have separate compartments for sauces. WARNING ... watch your wine intake with the overly long dinner hour with fondue !!!

Hey I'm with you on the long winter ... now that the holidays are done, I'm ready for spring in a big way.

Julie, hope that your doing well, you did have a winter break that would not be your norm.

Yeah, another thumbs up for Vegas. Pretty cool gal, a 20 year anniversary ! For me Vegas would be a Catch 22 if the dh would tag along or not. I'd love to have him there (as we married there in ‘07), but I also might find it hard to make sure he is having a good time while I want to visit with you all. You know ???

Vettegal, first off ... awesome pic, its too cool to see everyone looking so great. Now from a gal who has always liked a "short do", I have mentioned to others that I think they look awesome (or as Tina say's "sassy")! How bout trying to put a pic on the post itself? I've been trying to keep up with photos posted so maybe some day I will be able to put together a little collage of sorts again. If you have problems (which sounds like changes your avatar was a PITA, give me a shout out).

So not being a Vegas pro, what can you tell us about the hotel you mentioned?

Too cool on winning a trip out west ... sounds like it was fabo !!! Airplane story ????

I'll give a peak to the website you mentioned on hot flashes, thankfully mine have mellowed out a bit ... in fact I have woke up freezing ... maybe I'm sleeping through the hot part and then on the cool down I'm waking up cold ... who knows ?!?!?

OMG gal, we've missed a Vetteguy story !!!

Sherry, shucks gal, I was certainly hoping that something would turn around and start going your way. What can I say ... hope that your work troubles turn around soon.

Paula, I read your post at work today via my Blackberry ... I was literally cracking up at the lunch table reading your writings "coughed up a pixel" ???

I hope that Eddie is starting to re-group after the completion of his last round of txt. You are nothing but positive which I believe is the way you choose to live your life, but as some of us "bitch and moan" about "this and that", you truly are an inspiration to look at what we have been dealt in life and make the best of it 24/7. So not being the most articulate ... I think the world of you ... just don't know quite how to say it.

BTW ... I addressed/mailed Steph's card to him, I have been corresponding with e-mail the last couple of days with him, being the amazing person he is, his spirits seem to be high.

So much for doing laundry tonight ... think I'll have a bite to eat and hit the hay ... although I miss the dh when he is out of town, not having to cook dinner is rather nice now and again.

Oh, the power is still on, although I can hear the rain pounding on the south windows of the house.

    Hugs, Carol

Patty  I had a hysterectomy 15 years ago. For some reason I have ER PR postive cancer. I'm on Tamox istead of a AL because my body is kicking out estrogen. Different parts of the body make estrogen, fat cells and piturary glands really kick it out. That's why I really need to get off my butt and lose this wieght because the more fat cells or glands you have the more estrogen you are making.

Kimberly  Forgot to wish you a Happy Anniversary.

Tina  Thats great you have someone to look at the house already I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I don't know who is running the company where I work. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it and guess what I can go to work. I called to make sure I could work, they said yes, well instead of my 45 hrs that I had before all this happend, so far I found 1 1/2 hrs this week. I have lost out on almost 3 wks of wages. I'm still going to look for another job.

Paula  Sorry your puter took a dump, I know you can't wait for the new one. I have always wanted the lap top too. I guess It might be fun to go to the coffee shop and plug in free wifi and sip on coffee, I don't know it sounds like a different atomosphere.

    Evening, friends.

Got some good news today…tests are showing that I am officially in menopause (really?!?  I think I coulda told em that…oh, wait, I think I DID).  So, my drug du jour is Arimidex.  There are others that stand in waiting, I’m guessing, as “Plan B”, “Plan C”, etc., etc.  I’ll pick the rx up tomorrow.  Done some light research to find there are se’s to be had…oh, believe me, I didn’t think I was going to “escape” those...Other offers from onco included the ooph, IF tests came back indicating I had not yet hit menopause.  My onco said she only suggested (for me) that and, not the total hyster.  So, I’m relieved.  I’ll withhold judgment on the big “A” until I’ve given it a go…

Carol – I’ve heard about your fierce weather.  It sounds like you’ve got more winding up in the Pacific, headed your way.  It’s gonna be a long winter, friend.  Stay in, and stay warm.  I’m so glad to hear about Steph again.  Tell him best wishes are coming his way from MN.  Carol, I came away from onco with the belief that even with the ooph, I’d still need to take the Arimidex.  Yep, I got my nips a couple of months ago with the process just like Jules.  I wanted to wait to get the tats (for the areola) until the scars had “settled down”.  Dang!  No skull and crossbones…LOL

Do you recall me telling you gals about my friend at work, Jean?  She’s traveled this road, as we have, but, had a really rough go.  She lost her Mom the week after finishing chemo.  Then, she started a controversial rads series.  Apparently a new technology brought by a doc from out of state.  She was the first, and went ahead with it due to issues with her heart.  Forgive me, I’ve forgotten the name of it, but, it’s more “targeting” and allowed them to avoid impacting her heart.  She came through with flying colors, but, it was a long road.  She and I had lunch just before Christmas.  She’s back to work, hair’s growing in great and her spirits are high!

Patty – What a great bit about vetteguy!!  Is he the best, or what?  You gotta love a man like that!  Wink  By the way, I’ve been told that flax seed is quite helpful in reducing the severity of the hot flashes.  Haven’t tried it myself, but, am tempted to.  A lady at my office dumps some in her “vita-mix” blender every morning with her fruit smoothy.  Anyone else have one of those??  She got hers at Costco, they’re pretty spendy from what she says, but, they use theirs every single day.  I’m seriously considering it.  And, yes, it’s my understanding that once the ov’s are gone, it’s just as if you’re in menopause, so, you’ll need something other than tamox for maintenance.

CHJ – I was “pinked” out, too.  In fact, I switched to purple to spite everyone and everything.  Eventually, I returned to pink...I liked the color long before the dx.

Paula – I hope DH’s situation does nothing but imporove.  You’ve done an incredible job balancing everything.  You’re right…one day at a time.  Glad to hear you’ve joined the Mac world…I think you’ll find it easy and reliable.  We’ve always had Mac’s, if you ever need any technical support, please let me know.

Well, gotta run and get some laundry in the wash…otherwise, DH will be doing vetteguy’s dance at work…that would NOT be good…Surprised

Hi girls! Quick post tonight -- no time for shout-outs. Frown I ended up with a SNOW DAY (ice, actually) today!!! I spent the ENTIRE day de-Christmasing the house. I got all of my decorations down and put away and I relabeled all of my bins. The only thing I have left is the tree -- I really hoped to get to it also, but lost a little over an hour driving in to pick up ds and get him where he needed to be.

I hoped to have time to check in here too, but that didn't happen. I've quickly perused the posts, but haven't read them all. Almost 11:30 and I need to hit the hay! We have students tomorrow for the first time since break - all new classes for me - should be fun!!

I'll check in later this week when I have more time. Take care, girls!

    Julie

P.S. Tina --- UFFDA!! I thought my in-laws were the only ones who said that!!! Made me chuckle! Laughing

My Mac arrived last night. This is my first venture into Apple land (except my iPod, but I'm talking computers). So far, I love it! There's obviously a learning curve, but I'm flexible. This computer is a late Christmas present to me. Last time I needed to give myself something it was the Blackberry just after I finished rads... I'll have to watch this trend-- looks like my tastes are getting more expensive!

So, I am awake and sipping coffee before 6am-- definitely NOT the norm for me. I usually rise at the last minute and am throwing myself together while the coffee perks. I fell asleep early last nite (11pm) and apparently 6 hours is my limit, 'cuz I've been awake since 5ish. I had the strangest dream...

I was in a cabin in the middle of the woods with my family, getting ready for my Jewels reunion. Dh is chopping firewood ?, ds is showing off his GH skills to some of the Jewels teenagers, and dd is helping me decide what to wear. I'm torn between dd's size 4 prom dress (bwaaahahahaha) and my usual casual attire. Casual wins out and I leave sporting my fav. jeans, a sleeveless blouse, and the cutest sandals (which I've never seen in my life, but I'd like to find).

Segue to scene 2 (funny how that happens, isn't it?) We're coming out the door and they've cut these trees and they're all blocking the road. I calmly scoop them up like they were twigs and clear the way and we're off... in a taxi, which I'm driving. And we're now in the middle of a suburb and Carol, D1 and CHJ (who brought her cat, BTW) are there in another car to meet us at the end of the drive. Carol is driving, jumps out to come say hello and her car rolls away and crashes into a BMW that just happens to be driving by (nice neighborhood, huh?).

So, then there's some kind of bumper cars scene... with mud and a little bit of 4-wheelin' and next thing I know you all are driving away, leaving me alone in the taxi to find my way to the Jewels reunion, which is an hour away and I don't know the way. I stop to put gas in my taxi and I'm trying to get D1 on my cell to give me directions. Can't get the number entered correctly, so I hand it off to one of students, who just happens to be riding shotgun... and then, I wake up.

Kimberly- I'll be waiting on your dream interpretation. Spare me if it's bad--I prefer to just enjoy the craziness of it.

Patty- the sexiest part of Vetteguy's dance was the laundry that preceded it!Laughing

    Tina- happy tattoo-ing!

Julie- a snow day, eh? I always enjoy those, until June when they're all tacked on to extend our school year! I'm surprised we aren't on a delay this morning. It has rained heavily through the night. Living in the hills, flooding is a problem.

Okay time to get ready for work. Dh and I have appts with the onco this afternoon. I have to locate my mammo films and the U/S CD to take with me (now where did I put those?) I'll be back tonite to report in. Should be interesting to get his take on dh. He's deteriorated tremendously since he last saw him in Sept. Can't even carry on a conversation now... I was talking with one of my co-workers yesterday and she mentioned bringing in hospice. I've always been a strong advocate of hospice... funny that I want to resist bringing them in,but I do... I have a friend who works hospice and I'm going to call her and pick her brain today.

    Be back soon... Paula

Carol - we'll take you on the Raven's side anytime!  I'm wondering where LJ has been, she should be a Raven too...

Paula, that dream is hysterical!!  I can sometimes remember dreams right after I wake up, but you really had the living-color version.  :)

I'm pretty much over my indignation over all the pink stuff.  It still sometimes annoys me - I went to a friend's house the other day and she got the pink-ribbon version of a Dyson vacuum.  Who the heck wants a pink vacuum cleaner?  Whatever!  But some things are kinda fun, and one of these days, I'm going to order me one of these: http://www.tiedyedshop.com/tie-dyed-222ls.html

Tinalee - good luck with the Arimidex.  I started it in May, and can't say I have too many problems (heel spur flare-up, a few sore joints, nothing I can't deal with).  But then I also took Tamoxifin in 1995-2000 (5 years) and didn't really have issues with it either.  Or maybe I had issues and didn't make the connection.  I can't remember...

I see my new onc next week, and will be interested in her opinion about having the ooph.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to do that, in the spring when I don't have to worry about the chance of ice or snow.

Julie, I hear you about the ice, though.  We really dodged the bullet yesterday and today.  They were calling for it to really get icy here, but the temps stayed just above freezing, so we're OK.

I'm at work, should be working, so bye for now!

Happy Hump Day!  Just checking in before I leave work.  I'm here today so I can have off Friday for the port removal without having to use a personal day.  I've gotta comment on the posts soon, as this was a lively page.  Thinking of you all.  Maybe I can write after I get the blasted port out on Friday.  Won't be home tonight and tomorrow is a full day, too.  GTG

Sorry to be MIA, gang.  Turns out the Tamox blues were rearing their ugly head again (I guess the Megace was doing SOME good).  I've been really short and almost mean for the past 4-5 days and haven't felt much like posting.  Fortunately, I had an appointment with my gyn yesty and told him I didn't like Tamox.  He said he doesn't think he has a single patient who does!  After describing how I was actually hissing and baring my teeth at people, he recommended that I try Wellbutrin (not sure of the spelling).  He's given me a very low dose (I told him I did not want a chemical lobotomy) and I'm to go back to see him in 3 weeks to see how I'm doing.  I started today and just the action of doing something to improve my outlook has already made me feel better.  I hope this works.  So what's up?

Fireworks in SanFran sounds sublime, SISKimberly!  I'm really happy you got to do that.  It sounds like you guys crawled through SF on your tummies!!!  Good eatin', eh?

I really appreciated getting your card and poems.  Somehow several of you seemed to know that I needed some pick-me-ups and I got some great mail from the Jewels over the weekend.  Special thanks to Paula-I'm putting the wheat weaving with my Christmas tree decorations so I'll think of you every single year when we decorate the tree.  And Joan, that picture of Lucy was SOOO cute!

HIP HOORAY to KathyL for the neg MRI!!!!  Now that's the way to start off a new year!  Looks like you're up for port removal this Friday.  I can only imagine the weight that will be lifted when you realize you don't need that any longer!

You remind me-Patty, we have some Chex cereals around the house waiting to be made into Chex mix to send back to school with my college girl and you won't believe what's printed on the side of the Rice Chex box-a side panel devoted to Celiac Disease Foundation!  You are making me more aware-thanks!

Tina-Joey is such a cutey!  Thanks for sharing the pix.  And I like the new avatar.  Your hair is looking good. (The Vikes suck.  And now they won't get a good draft pick...)

Tennis elbow?  Oh man, Carla!  I hope you're feeling better soon.

Okay, SISKimberly had me lol with her probing query into how one gets tennis elbow at this time of year...

Thanks for the YouTube link.  Those fireworks were, to use your words, awesome!

Your January plans sound great, Carol.  It sounds like you're working a few things for Carol into the plans, which makes me happy to see.

Wow!  Your wine cooler sounds amazing!  I'll just drink what all you wine experts are drinking at our Jewel reunion-you all sound pretty sophisticated to me.

Oh man, sorry to hear about the ds' knee cap.  I sure hope his p/t gets him back on his skates, soon.  I will say my dd's p/t did her a world of good.

I wish I were more interested in a 3day and lived closer to you!  I'd love to share an experience like that with a Jewel (but you won't catch me in a pink tent!).

Oh, and speaking of guitar hero, we had several contests over the holidays.  One night (after a bit of wine) I was on fire!  (Well, as on fire as you can be when you're playing the Easy level.)  I beat both of my kids, college girl's bf (he was playing on expert, tho), and my dh!  I haven't played since as I know I won't ever be that into the groove again!

Oh, and I'll jump on the numbness bandwagon.  About half my boob is numb, extending to my pit and part way down my arm.  Shaving is still a hazard.

Julie, you guys are WAY ahead of us on the remodeling.  My dh did say he'd like to go look at tiles this weekend, so maybe I'll get my bathroom back on track.  The new furniture sounds great and I've done some furniture assembly many times to save a few shekels.  It actually gives you a sense of accomplishment, doesn't it?

Holy cow!  Now that's a buyer beware story on the vehicle, if I ever heard one!  Glad it worked out okay for you.

Yes, Julie, we have undecorated.  We did it Sunday morning.  That is such a painful thing to do, isn't it?

I'm so glad the nips are coming around.  That was quite a Christmas present, wasn't it?

Oh Patty, I know about the feeling that you want to strip to get some relief from hot flashes.  My whole body temp gauge is on the fritz these days.  I'm having to layer to try to second guess how I'm going to feel at any given moment.  I think my family is tiring of it...

What a score on the skis, Tina!!!  That is way cool!  I'm also jealous of the concerts.  I want to do more of that sort of thing, too.  Dh looked in to Fleetwood Mac tix (I passed on an opportunity to see them when I was in college and practically their groupie because I had an exam the next day-can you believe it???).  I'm not sure if he was able to get them, or not.  Perhaps they will be my bday present this year, since the concert isn't till March.

Well, I wish the Purple People Eaters and Fran had shown up to play on Sunday!  Geez!  I keep telling dh that I want a Tarkenton throw back jersey as a present, but he says it would cost too much.  What a spoil sport.

Don't feel bad, KathyL, we returned a gifted fondue set one time, too.  The problem with things like that is finding a place to store them when you're not using them.  I mean, it's fun every once in a while, but let's face it, most of the time it will be in the cupboard.

Oh, and Tina, I had the same experience as Julie when I tried to access the photo album.

Okay, Patty, lol at your butthole of America comment!  We've all felt that way at one time or another, trust me.  How cool that you won that trip, tho!  It sounds like it was just what you needed.

Just what you needed to add to your frustration level, Sherry, is a lost post.  NOT!  I really hope the job thing straightens out for you.  The work from home sounded like a better fit for you than being on your feet at Kmart.  I'm sending you some positive vibes.

CHJ, Hmmm, the Ravens, they DO wear purple...

And then there's Patty, bleeding black and gold.  See, there IS something behind the color scheme.

Sherry, so the lost is found (and I didn't even realize that I was reading the "lost" one).  Yay.  Can you believe how bad the Lions were this year????  As if Michigan needed something else to go wrong right now.

Sherry, the depression from the Tamox is NOT something you should gut out.  Even though I still haven't settled on something to alleviate it, I am not going to stop trying.  And if I don't find anything to combat the depression, I'll stop the Tamox and talk to my onc about alternatives.  None of us should live under a blue cloud.  Please help yourself and talk to someone about it.  (Will you be my roomy in the loony bin???)

Hooray for Tina and her good use of the BGPs!  Keep us posted on what they recommend to you as an alternative and why.  While I'm really trying to give Tamox a shot, unless I can shake the blues, I'll be looking at alternatives myself.  It doesn't sound like I'm the only one.

    Oh, and q-tip on, gf!

So the Gateway is gone, huh, Paula?  How much fun is that to get a laptop to replace it?  I got my laptop last Spring and am wondering why I didn't have it while I was doing my chemo so I could've reclined on the sofa and posted here, instead of having to sit at my desk in the computer room.  Oh well.  Hope you transition to Apple smoothly.

Boy, I hope dh is doing okay with his brothers as keepers now that you're back in school.  I know that must worry you all the time.

Oh, yeah, my New Year's post.  I think I was coming off the Megace happy place...

Ummm, full body shudder here, too.  No way lips for nips!!!!

So there's Patty talking about how she wants to disrobe all the time and hang out in giant fridges to get rid of her hot flashes, then she pulls out the story of Vetteguy doing his Chippendale dance!  I would think that would make the hot flashes worse, not better!  (Or, that could depend on your perspective.)

As for ways to control hot flashes, I haven't found one, yet.  I do have to wash my sheets every 2-3 days because I sweat with rivulets running down my body several times a night.  I will say that Ambien helps with the sleep and I seem to be on a pattern of taking them for 4 nights and sleeping well, then taking 4 nights off.  I have this crazy idea that I'll get addicted otherwise.

Yeah, Carol, I chuckled at the "coughed up a pixel," too.  Yes, we do need a chatteroo soon.  There is nothing but craziness this week as we get back into the routine, but even though college girl will be around next week, I'll bet we can work something in.

LOL at the thought of skull and crossbones tats for the nips!

Thanks for the info on your next steps, Tina.  Actually, the info you're getting from your onc sounds just like what my guy says to me.  He's hoping he can keep me on the Tamox for 5 years and then move to Arimidex for 5 years.  He likes the Tamox first because it's apparently better at beating the hormones (refer to Sherry's post about hormones coming from places other than your woman parts), and it builds bone density, whereas the AI's leech bone density.  Since osteoporosis runs in my family, we're trying to build the density first.  I'm even taking calcium supplements.  The only part of my whole game plan that puzzles me is why am I taking drugs for 10 years when most people only take them for five????

Okay, that was a weird dream, Paula.  Perhaps we need a 3 person suite in the loony bin, eh?

Sorry to hear about the falling out with Vettesis, Patty.  Sometimes family can be so hard.

Whew!  I think I'm caught up.  Hopefully my mood will be better and I'll feel more like posting so I don't have to do these marathons!

Paula, happy to report that the Beemer's we're safe today.  I totally cracked up this morning reading about your dream ...  you know that D1 is a popular one ... I had a dream that I met her and Cher at the same time  (I can't remember where the heck we were).  Never did report that strange event some months ago, it was during chemo time so who knows.

Off to yoga in a few ... Carol
