Can soaps contribute to culprit?
Here's my story. At 39, back in 1991, I was diagnosed with stage 1 - BC, intraductal carcinoma (ph) I had a lumptecomy and axuillery dissection, neg on the lymph nodes. I had 30 whole radiation treatments and six months chemo. In Jan. 2007 I was again diagnosed with BC- stage 1, this time a totally different cancer that had nothing to do with the first cancer but was on the same breast. As a result, I had a mastecomy. My oncologist recommended Femara but I refused. I've been going the natural way, with exercise, eating fruits and veggies. I also take various vitamins to include a multi vit for women.
Last week, I had a mammo of the remaining breast and there is suspicion as I have microcalcifications. Many mammo x-rays were performed and it was determined the MC were not clustered. I was told to have a mammo again in 6 months. I too am concerned about the amount of radiatiion I have been receiving thru the years.
I've been re-researching again and know to follow a high fiber low fat diet. I'm starting to wonder about the soap I've been using. I use Zest for my body, Dove and Ivory for delicate parts. I just googled these soaps and it does not look good as to the hazard levels.
My question is what would be a safe as well as natural soap BC survivors can use? Try googling these soaps and see what I am talking about. What do you use?
Input, opinions etc. are highly accepted here.

Hi, naturegirl ~ Are you familiar with this website? www.cosmeticsdatabase.com
It ranks the safety of thousands of cosmetic products, including soaps. I don't think any one product or any one thing causes bc, but maybe more an accumulation of exposures to many things over our lifetime that allows bc cells to start growing in some of us. But best to eliminate as many cancer-causing chemicals as possible from your home and your life. I buy natural soaps at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and similar markets. But I still check everything against that list and don't hesitate to return something if I find out it has a rating that makes me not want to use it. Deanna

It isn't just soap...it is anything you put on your skin. Your skin is your largest organ and any product your put on it gets into your bloodstream. Take a clove of garlic and put it between your toes...you will taste it in 15 to 30 minutes...because what you put on your body gets into your body! We bombard our skin with 100s of chemicals EVERY day! They estimate that women have exposed themselve to at least 70 chemicals by the time we get to the breakfast table every day! Can we get rid of all toxins in our environment...No, but we can limit them. You have to become self-educated.
Mineral oil and petrolatum are the main ingredients used in mainstream cosmetics and personal care products. Why, because it is cheap! But is is good for you? Petroleum is considered a xenoestrogen...it works in your body like estrogen does! So it makes sense to limit it!
Find a company that you can trust and that uses products that are actually good for you!

Thanks for the great link! I use grape seed oil, almond oil, and sunflower oil as a moisturizer because I am afraid of all the junk in the others. The less toxic stuff we put on our skin, the easier we make it for out boides to fight off all the free radicals we cannot control.

Now to find a soap that is safe

Hi apple, okay
dlb, thanks for the website. I will use it a lot! I've been questioning ingredients in my makeup as well as moisturizer I'm using too. I will check these out on the site you provided.
I went out about a week ago and purchased natural soap from Whole Foods. BTW-I quit using deodorant several years ago when I got BC again. I know, it sounds bad but hey, if this may help in preventing recurrent BC, I will abstain, (ph)
Thanks Lisa for your input and info! You are absolutely right. Yes, people need to think about EVERYTHING they put on their skin as it is absorbed into our bodies. Even sunscreen.
