MRI tomorrow
Hello everyone and happy holidays. I was diagnosed last December with DCIS and a very small invasive component (4mm). I had lumpectormy and radiation and received two opinions about chemo and Herceptin (yes, I am HER2+). Both times I was told no chemo and Herceptin although I was not entirely comfortable with this decision due to postings on this board. First mammo last July turned out fine. Second mammo showed a small calcification cluster in the same breast as last time. However, try as they might - by taking additional films - they could not find the cluster again and you need to have the cluster on two slides to do a biopsy. Radiologist (my best friend;s cousin) said it was possible that the way I was compressed could have made calcifications look like a cluster. Anyway - having an MRI tomorrow since I have very dense breasts. So here I go again .... if this turns out to be malignant, I guess the oncologists were wrong regarding their decision to recommend no chemo and herceptin. I'll let you know what happens.

Keep us updated. In the Her2 forum there is a topic regarding cancers less than 1cm having chemo and Herceptin. Low grade Herceptin tumor or something of that matter. Please check it out for yourself. A study that came out of San Antonio this December stated " YES". I hope someone else can maybe post the link for the findings. If in doubt, about your first oncologist, seek out a second opinion.

Hi - yes, I saw that post. Unfortunately, that study came out after I had completed treatment and I don't think they offer chemo and herceptin a year after diagnosis.

Hey Joni, Please keep us posted, I will be thinking of you....Hoping this is not a problem....Let's hope you have the films done again and they show nothing...Happy HEALTHY New Year to you..Hugs KLynn...Haven't talked to you in awhile, don't like seeing a post like this..Sending positive thoughts your way...

Thank you for your post KLynn. Funny how we block things out. When I went for the MRI I completely forgot that you lay on your stomach and that they inject dye for contrast! Funny what you can forget in one year. Now the waiting game begins. Hugs.

Hi Joni, was wondering if you ever got your MRI results back yet? Hope all is okay.

Hi Sandee - thanks for your post. I was waiting for my doctor to call but, instead, received a package today. In it was my MRI report and a disk with the MRI images (I assume - did not look at them yet). Fortunately, all the report was positive - no sign of malignancy! Hope you are doing well. Happy New Year!

That's great news! Happy New Year to you too.

Joni-
Good news is a great way to start off the new year. Think of it as a new "good news" trend from now on. I hope that makes sense??? Wishing you a healthy and Happy New Year!
Liz
