Hey, another Michigan gal here! I live in Brighton and would love be included in you list. I'm wondering if you have any get togethers planned.
-
Well, it's been a while since I've been here. See some familiar names, lots of new ones.
I had DCIS in 2004, lumpectomy, radiation. No tamoxifen. Now had a new lump in other breast, just found out this morning it is BC, invasive, no other info at this time until after surgery.
I have an appointment at UofM on the 15th to meet with my 'team' of doctors. I did not go to UofM last time, and hope it will be a good experience. My biopsy was done at Providence, more out of need to hurry and get it done than anything else.
Anyway, I wanted to say hi to some of the names I know and have met--Nancy, Chris, Pat--and also to those I don't know yet. Sounds like you all are keeping up with the walks and the get togethers; that's really nice.

Hey - can we start planning something?
I'm off from the 22nd (first follow-up mammo) to the 5th of January.
Does the week between Christmas and New Years sound good to anyone else?
I'm jealous of the Chili's outing - we had an inservice that day, so ...

Hi My name is Tina, I'm 42 and live in Waterford, Mi. I was diagnosed with Stage 2b Breast Cancer on Sept.4, 2008. I had my right breast taken off on Sept.10th, 2008 and the start of reconstruction. I'm triple negative and am on my 3rd treatment of TC. I'm so glad I found a group for Michigan! Tina
-
Oh #$*!!! Judy. It's not right. Let us know what we can do for you. How is your daughter?
Welcome Waterlily, Tina and so many others I cannot catch up! The Michigan ladies are the best and are here for you if you have any questions or need anything.
Yes, count me in for a get-together. I'm getting tons of email about the Komen Race, 2009. Are we all in?
Sorry I've been AWOL and missed meeting Faith and Wings. Any pictures? How are all the grandbabies? Any news about Alaska Deb?
Someone had a new haircut, Neesie went on vacation ... pictures please! I have so much catching up to do.

Have no fear, dear MI friends..... no one missed a visit. My two trips in the last month didn't have a lot of flexibility in the agenda and didn't easily co-incide with folks availability......
So this time I just waved and blew kisses as I traveled safely thru your pines, blustering winds and mounting snowfall, as I traveled north.
My 3 days in Standish were very well recieved. We had nearly 250 people come to our family concert on Thurs...... despite snow covered roads. (I suppose you folks get used to that.)
Thanks for the tip on the outlet mall. That was a fun diversion.
Newbies & returning oldsters, you're in such good hands with the MI team. Just can't figure out how to get our OH gals organized. I've looked ahead at the Detroit Komen walk and have a conflict again this year. This time it's our state conference: shucks.

Hi Nancy: Thanks for asking, Julia is about the same, no answers yet. She was in the hospital last month, they found 3 different bacteria in her bloodstream, said it was a miracle she didn't die. We've been giving her 3 different IV antibiotics for a month now. I just want to take care of her, and not have her worrying about me while she's so sick. It stinks. On a good note, though, the bone marrow test they gave her was negative.
Question: Is anyone here going to U of M for treatment? Is it a good place to go? I am about to chose where I'll be going, and I'm thinking U of M, since DD is out there so often anyway.

I'm sorry you are going through so much tough stuff right now. I've an 18-yr-old daughter, and I'm much more interested in making sure she is happy and safe than in paying attention to myself. The fact that you can take of yourself at all is pretty amazing.
I think that the U of M is a really good option for cases that have gotten complicated. I know that a lot of the younger women in MI go there, because they specialize in cases that aren't just run-of-the-mill. I know that I would certainly look into what they can offer, if I ever had any kind of recurrence.
My oncologist is in the Ann Arbor Hematology and Oncology practice at St. Joe's, at the Ann Arbor Ypsi border. The docs are amazing, so that is another option.
-
JudyB - So sorry to hear about your recent dx. I had my surgeries and treatments at UM. I drove over an hour each way and was well worth the drive for me. My experience at UM were very positive and I would highly recommend the Breast Cancer Treatment facility. I know Rockysmom another Judy also went to UM. If you would like recommendations on Drs. PM us. We had different surgeons but the same onc.
Welcome to our new girls. Hope you can make it to one of our get togethers.
Chris - Hope you have pictures to share of the wedding/weddings.
Looks like we are still deciding on a luncheon date/location.
How about any of these dates:
Dec. 27 Dec. 28 Jan. 3 or Jan. 4
Hugs

Judy...no way! I feel so badly that you are going thru this and at the same time as your daughter's illness. Keep strong...will continue to pray for you. Seriously...this sucks!
I would love to see everyone...but Sunday the 4th is the only day that I can do it. We have daughter #3's bridal shower on that Saturday...and the weekend before we are out of town. I will throw out the weekend after (10 & 11) as another option...I am open those two days as well.

Hi all--
I just found this thread! I live in Windsor now, but grew up near East Lansing and spend a lot of time in Detroit (I work part-time in Ferndale).
My dx info is in my sig. I'm going to the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, and very happy with them.
Would love to get together sometime!

Hi Chris! Good to hear from you. It does suck, I really agree. To top it off, it is some rare type, a metaplastic tumor, so I have no idea what the heck it all means.
Good news is that my bone scan and chest xray have come back clear! That really was a huge relief.
-
Judy-Good luck on your surgery...we will be praying for you.
Matha-Welcome to our MI group. I hope you can make it out to our next outing!
To all-I wanted to wish everyone a blessed Christmas season. We certainly have a white Christmas this year...it reminds of my youth when we always had snow. I will be spending the holidays with lots and lots of family...and will have one daughter home who was not here last year. Happy holidays! -
Happy Holidays to all. Hope everyone has a Happy New Year! Everything is going good with me, coming up on my 5 yr diagnosis. Don't have much computer time so I apoligize to everyone whom I haven't spoke with.
-
Happy Holidays and a healthy New Year to all.
deni0104 - Congrats on your upcoming 5yr anniversary.
Luncheon dates - suggestions are Jan. 4, 10, 11
Any of the above dates work? I can't do the 10th since I have a recertification CPR/first aid class that day. The 4 or 11 is good for me.....how about everyone else?
Wings
-
Happy Holidays! Count me in for a get-together. I posted the dates work but just realized that the 4th is not so good. I think the 11th is good.
Nancy
-
Oh dear--none work for me...
I'm a pastor and work on Sundays, and the 10h my son will be here visiting.
Maybe next time!
-

The 10th or 11th works for me as well. Shall we set a date and a place?
-
Neesie - Wings and Not-Me offered a bunch of dates. So, how about the 11th so Wings can make it?
Places ... What City?

Hey Nancy.............you know me....always a day late or a dollar short or whatever the saying is!
The 11th is fine with me! Brighton has a few new restaurants.......and I can do Novi or Ann Arbor.
What was that restaurant we met at in Novi (I think) that was really good. (You remember....the one where we met Susie and Maureen............and have the 'wonderful' pics of ONE of our hands!)
You guys pick.............probably one with a variety menu.....................and oh yea, I've gained about 15 pounds since summer....................Nice added attraction!
Hugs,
Neesie

Hi All
Thanks for choosing the 11th......hope others can join as well.
Brighton or Ann Arbor works for me too.
Our Dear Faith from Ohio needs our support. Her last mamo shows a small concern.
Sending her a group hug from the MI girls.

Hi All,
I'm in for the get-together. If I can fit into my jeans, that is.
And if the weather cooperates.
Can't wait to see everyone.

Hi All:
First of all, Judy - I just want to say how sorry I am to hear about your latest diagnosis. Wow, it just isn't fair. You are definitely in my prayers - as is your sweet daughter. Hold tight and know that we are all with you through this. If there is anything I can do - please just let me know - PM me, okay??
As to the get together, I have my grandson's second birthday on the 10th but it is in Chicago so that is where my hubby and I will be. I will really really try to make the next one. I miss all you guys . . .
Hugs,
Pat

Happy New Year to all.
I have a restaurant suggestion for Ann Arbor area.
Off 94 Ann Arbor/Saline Road Apple Bees easy on/off.
I am not familiar with Brighton so not sure of the available restaurants in that area. If someone has a suggestion for restaurants in Brighton area or another location please summit and we can make a decision.
Add me to the list of holiday/winter weight gain.............

-
Good, sounds like we will all be wearing 'stretch pants' to the luncheon next Sunday!! Apple Bees is fine with me, Bonnie..........I know you and Irene have a ways to travel..Hoping some of you new friends can join us!
And WEATHER..........please be gentle!
Of Course I have no idea how to get to 94/Saline.............but I'm sure Mapquest can get me there and back...............I'll be taking 23!
Neesie
(Thinking of you Faith...........keep your chin up and keep us posted!)
-
Irene - I wasn't sure how far Ann Arbor is for you. It over an hour for me. If we need a closer location to you let us know. According to mapquest Brighton is 1 1/2 hrs away from me..... doable IF weather cooperates. If Ann Arbor doesn't work out hopefully we can find a central location for all of us.
Neesie - Ann Arbor/Saline exit is not far from 23.
