DEAR RESPECTED LOBULAR SURVIVORS!!!!!
Hello beuatiful ladies, survivors of Invasive lobular breast carcinoma!
It has been a tough year for me, so I could not be so much with you on these boards, but I have to tell you you all are always on my mind. I am a doctor now, in February I am beginning with medical oncology practice at our INSITUTE OF ONCOLOGY LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA, and am really grateful to be so...My mum is doing very well , and I am glad and grateful for that also.
I wish all of you really healthy NEW YEAR 2009 and let all your wishes come true, you just have to really believe in them, take a look at the episode or film THE SECRET and you will get my point!
What we believe and think, that is what we get, and if we are afraid of something(cancer relapse), we get it back.I was very taken aback in my research when I was doing HER-2 positive breast cancer research, some women still do very well and they had very poor prognostic signs and also on the other hand women with good prognostic signs, dont do well.
Good luck to all of you and only good events in year that is coming to us-2009!!!!
MATIC FROM SLOVENIA, CENTRAL EUROPE!

Nice to see you Matic, you have been missed with us Lob girls. You have been so helpful and congrats on being a Doctor now.
Not sure I agree about how we get a relapse. I was always the type who said "I HAD bc not HAVE it" and very much went on with my life thinking I was well passed the bc world. Unfortunately it snuck in on me with no negative thoughts attached to bring on its return. I thought for sure I had a pinched sciatic nerve but turns out it was mets to the femur. NO ONE thought it was BC, with no symptoms presenting themselves that would indicate it. I had returned to the theatre doing shows and enjoying life and laughter.
I'm glad to hear your mum is doing well. I have been away from the boards also but have thought of all the Lob sisters frequently and came on to read (lurk) to make sure everyone was doing OK.
Hello all to all you. And Happy New Year!
-
Matic, I wish you were practicing here in the US! 5 years for Mum is a milestone. Wishing only good things for you both.
Marsha, my God, I am really sorry that happened to you. I hope things get better soon.
-
Marsha, I can't believe what I'm reading. This is just beyond belief for me as we have almost the identical diagnosis. It sounds like you are recovering from surgery now, so this must be very recent news. What are the plans for treatment going forward? Please come back and keep us informed. GIANT HUGS.

Gitane,
You have a whole year on me. I was dx'd Dec 06 and did the full monty. mast, A/C, taxol, rads, left mast so as not to be scanned constantly, tamoxifen for 5 years. After my first chemo my period stopped completely so maybe should have been on an AI instead of tamox (?). Yes this is very recent. I started in the summer with a slight twinge in the top of my thigh when walking. A few months later started to limp slightly. Had radiating pain down the thigh in different locations, never just one spot. Everyone thought I had a pinched sciatic nerve or the beginning of arthritis in my hip causing pinching. i even went to a chiropractor who xrayed the spine and hip. Missed the top of my femur by an inch or so. Finally in Nov started using a cane, Dec crutches and finally just couldn't move my leg at all without radiating, electrical type pain. i started worrying it was a slipped disc, called an ambulance Dec 19 at 4 am cause I couldn't get out of bed without severe pain. x ray showed what they thought was mets, they roughed me up a bit moving me around even tho I begged them to stabalize my leg for no movement. They moved me for the 4th time to get me into a hosp bed and broke it by being too rough. 24 hours later I had surgery (Dec 20) to place a titanium rod from the top of the femur (where it goes in the hip) to the bottom (the side of the knee) 3 screws to hold it in place. I have never experienced that type of severe pain in my life. Screeching, not screaming! When asked pain level 1 to 10 I would say 14! I was released Christmas Eve with the next plan to be rads. I had a PET/CT this last Wednesday and will get those results probably on Monday. I am scared out of my mind of course. Hoping and praying it was only in the femur as I had NO OTHER Symptoms. Felt good, healthy, full of energy. No queasy, no bowel movement problems, no pain to the touch anywhere, no pain at night.
PILC, 5 cm, ER/PR 97%, HER 2 neg, 1 of 13 nodes micromet is the original dx. Thanks for the hugs, I've kinda stayed away from the boards for a while as I coulnd't stand to come on and see so much infighting on a Breast Cancer Support Board, but did stay in touch with my Feb chemo group. I've read and kept up with you guys also. I am almost totally home bound, I can only put 10 lbs on the leg using a walker. Still on some high powered pain meds until rads which will help with that alot.
Matic, I so appreciate your PM! Hugs to all, Marsha
-
Hi, Marsha. It's good to "see" you again on the ILC board. I'm so sorry to hear of the femur mets--that totally sucks. Keep us posted on your PET results, and I hope you have a quick recovery from surgery.
-
Thank you nash, sorry I haven't been much of a support to all my Lob sisters of late. Sincerely was just trying to get on with my life with laughter and fun. And here I show up when something bad happens to me, needing all of you.
-
Marsha, so sorry to hear about your mets and all you've been through. Sure is scary. I hope the rads take away the pain so you can move around. Thinking about you and please keep us posted!
hugs,
Lynn

Thank you Lynn, we came on the boards around the same time and remember talking to you often. Hugs back at you, Marsha

Just wanted to say congratulations and thank you. In 2 weeks, I will hit my 2 year mark for ILC survival. You helped me several times during my diagnosis and treatment and always provided such hope. I still remember some of your posts encouraging me and others to not worry. I have read the Secret and use it's theories often. Best of luck to you and your mum this year! Thanks again for keeping all of us up to date on your research!

Dear conniehar!
I am very happy to see you doing well.Keep doing so!!!I am now working at our institute of oncology and see women with breast cancer at every aspect, I mean before starting working in clinical practice I was very theoretical, but now I have seen many many cacer survivors that I just get confirmation about real positive thougths every day, especially in metastatic settings. And also have great results in treating because I treat differently lobular, ductal and have a totally different aspect in these two cancers. And patients are really satisfied and grateful for that positive and encouraging words.Of course i have seen metastatic lobular patients as well, but as far as none of them have died, they are actually doing quite great , they are on hormonal or chemotherapy ,depends on the whole histological factors. And it is also true that lobular tends to go in different places than ductal.I have now one patient that has metastasis on her right eyelid and in pancreas, so it is very strange.
Dear SherriG!
II just want to tell you that I also often think of you, and am happy to hear you are doing perfectly well. I remember you very well. Well, I have been a doctor for more than 9 months, but am doing in oncology for 1 good month now,.And I think I am going to stay in oncology, so next month I am going to start specialisation in oncology-.
If you have any information, (good article) or any question, just tell and we will exchange our experience.I hope we meet some day...:)
Kind regards and I am so happy becase the spring is coming soon;))))
