Long Term and/or Catastrophic Insurance?

I will be coming up on my 5 years since cancer diagnosis in the coming year and was going to see about qualifying for long term or catastrophic insurance. The kind that helps pay day to day expenses in the event of a major health issue. I didn\'t have this when I was caught with this bc dianosis and have been waiting to cross this date threshold to see if I could get this for future events. Did anyone actually have the foresight to have this type of insurance when they were diagnosed? If so, did they work as advertised or did you have difficulty getting them to pay the benefits? What company did you use and do you have any companies you would recommend or advise on what to look for or watch out for? Any advice will be appreciated.

I purchased Aflac cancer insurance in jan 2006 - diagnosed with bc in June 2008.   They have been wonderful.  I carefully read my policy and audit what I get paid for - they have missed a few claims that I submitted (you just fax hospital/doc bills) but always have paid when I questioned (and was right).  I was planning on purchasing long term care insurance (my dad has it through travelers and it is working out well)  Not sure I will be able to qualify but am going to try to get it for my hubby.

I had Aflac dental insurance prior to that (I think I got that in 2004) and was very happy with it.  Always either broke even or they paid more than my premiums. My brother in law purchased Aflac accident insurance a million years ago (ok  not really) but when he had triplets that were born prematurely and had extended hospital stays he was paid $300/day per baby - ended up getting a check for $18k when they got out of hospital.

PM me if you have any specific questions I didnt cover.

i'd be curious to see what happens nadine.  i checked into long term insur. before i was dx with bc (only because the agent would give up so i applied).  duh i was turned down and told i was uninsurable because of lupus.  so i guess lol that means i wouldn't get accepted with IV bc now too. i just wish i could get it for hub.  at some pt. perhaps not too long off he will need custodial care and of course everything we've worked for all our lives will be gone within a few years.   i hope you luck out, hugs maria

I have both insurances, and the LTC is surprisingly reasonable inprice (group policy, and middle age when signed up). I don't use either. Over the years the Catestrophic has become almost unbearable in price, and each year I hem and haw, and my husband reminds me we could need it for drugs alone. Nevertheless, these policies are very expensive. Id on't know about paying next year.T.
