Carboplantin is consider one of the gentler chemo's. I have used carbo for over six months and did not have any real side effects. Even with Gemzar and Avastin add to this chemo. I did not need any blood shots to bloost my blood. Just fatigue and some metal mouth. Any chemo can have long term side effects. Like treatment it is all about how your body response to the drug. How long you take it and with whatever treatment that is being given at the same time.

I received for treatments of carboplatin along with taxotere and Herceptin. I was extremely nauseated to the point of IV's during my sick time which lasted 5to 9 days. I was asssured by the doctors that it was the taxotere that made me so sick. With my last treatment (although I'm still getting Herceptin) being almost 4 months, I can honestly say I have no lasting side effects from anything. I feel fabulous, never did get tired, and I work out at the gym 6 days a week. I am completely back to normal. Well, except for really, really short hair (still wearing a wig) Hope this helps, God Bless, Mary

I am doing Taxol & Carboplatin. It is the milder chemo. I have done others and they really made me feel bad. When the onc told me I had to do chemo again I was devastated. I thought I was done and was thinking of all the side effects I suffered from. Then she reassured me that it would be a lot easier than the others. I have not had nausea, or vomiting. The one thing I have constipation which is miserable. I take Senkot and that has really helped me. Like FloridaLady said everyone is different. I wish you the best. Take care.

I heard that the combination of toxol and carboplatin may hinder the effectiveness of toxol. Is it true? I am worried because I started the weekly toxol and carbo last week already. Pls advice. Thanks

Hi newalex. I really hope you're not worrying from what my Oncologist has said.
The simple truth is, I've found as much written that Taxol is better with Carboplatin than I have saying it's better on it's own. So I'm sure you'll find as many Oncs that are split 50/50 on this.
This must be why they're now officially trialling the 2 together.

hi James
I went to see my onc today and asked about this and he said he cannot imagine the two combination makes toxol less effective is because the two drugs are targetting different ways of the cancer cell, different ways to kill a cancer cell, i.e. carboplantin goes by destroying the DNA and toxol goes by destroying the sprider (i don't know how to write it....) and also he said in treating most of other cancers, the two combined is better for toxol alone. I hope the other ladies can add.
