    Well, I am getting gene tested Wednesday. My onco says they are learning about her2 being linked to other cancers.. like prostate.. pancreatic.. ovarian... but not 100% sure. So... even though I do not have daughters or sisters.. or any other BC in the family... due to my younger age and her2 only cancer... she is having me tested. What we do have is the family is Prostate, pancreatic and ovarian... but I doubt , back then.. they checked for her2 gene in those cancers.. those cancers were 20 yrs ago..plus..

    Thank God they have targeted therapy now for her2. We really are so lucky.. I mean... if we HAVE to have BC that is...

    If I do test positive, she wants my ovaries too....

    Keeping fingers crosses and on my knees.... not positive!

    I would be willing to have ovaries out - they are useless to me at age 62.   If that is more insurance, then I understand it is not that bad a surgery.   Not that I want to have another surgery either...

    I had the gene test done in July of this year.since I had already had finished with treatment, they weren't in a particular rush.they told me it could take up to one year for the results. I have no history of either prostate,ovarian but my grandmothers sister had BC in her 60's ( she passed from Alzheimers by the way ). They wanted to test because of my age too, I just turned 30 when I was diagnosed.

    The genetic councellor said I have a 10% chance of carrying any gene.I'm still debating about the whole ovary thing.For some reason a little voice just keeps coming in my head telling me to "do it" Arggg. Right now I'm on Lupron ovary supression. I just don't want to be going through another surgery yet. PLUS you have to weigh in the risk factors of having them out. Way to much to think about right now.Undecided

     Hi KLynn , when I read your message I was very happy because I see you are a courageous woman. I have the same story . I have recurrance in my lungs and lıver. The lumps in my liver started getting smaller, but my lungs seem to stay the same . Do your lungs   clean completely. Please write to me what happened to you all your treatments when the reccurance occured. Did you have any cyberknife ,gamaknife treatment.Did you ever speak to radyology oncolog. I was dx in March of 2007 and I was hit with the recurrance in May 2008. I had the 9th taxol and herc. last Monday. My oncologist say that we will carry on taxol and herc. untill taxol stops responding to my tumors and carry on with herc untill it develops resistance to it. But I am very anxious, my liver and lungs aren't clean completely. The metastas 2.5 and 1.5 cm in my liver . In my lungs there are multiple metastasis in parankim area,the largest of ıt is 6 mm at last  If it is so , how herc works well all alone. I will speak to an radyology oncolog .  Esra

    I too defiesd the odds in a bad way- I had a mastectomy for high grade DCIS with clear lymph nodes back in 1999, and was considered cured.  Lung mets turned up in January 2008.  PET/CT showed mets in my internal mammory nodes as well as several bone lesions and, suprisingly, breast cancer on my thyroid.  All this showed up in one year, as I had a clear MRI in January 07.  The good news is taht I now appear to have stable disease after 5 months of weekly Navelbine and Herceptin, and now on herceptin, an AI, and a monthly luperon shot.  I am not disease free, so I still feel pretty vunerable, and am eager to see the vaccine progress!  Bottom line, HER+ tumor is wiley and unpredictable, and Herceptin is a wonderf contribution, but does not solve the problem perminantly for most of us with mets.  I think Herceptin back in 1999 would have saved me, and I strongly support all early stage women in treating it agressively with Herceptin- even you DCIS gals!

    What can you tell me about the vaccine-where it is being researched,etc? I would gladly join a trial if one is in progress. Thanks!
