New home for prostheses?

Options

I have a couple prosthetic breasts that are in good to excellent shape. I no longer need them because I had a DIEP flap reconstruction. I'm looking for an organization to donate these to--one that provides breast prostheses to women who cannot otherwise afford them. Any ideas?

Venita - Check with an American Cancer Society office if there is one in your area. I volunteer at one, and we get all kinds of donated items that we give to women who have financial issues. We get prostheses, mastectomy bras and camisoles, and we also get wigs and all kinds of head coverings. They will usually give you a donation receipt for tax if you'd like.

Yep, that would be my first thought.  When I first started going through all this, the ACS gave me a free book of Susan' Love and as many wigs as I wanted to try. I brought about 4 home. and a couple hats (winter type).  Don't know if ours has bras/proths, but I'm sure they do.

That's nice you are donating them, as I'm sure there are many who would otherwise, NEVER be able to afford them.

Mary Beth, that is just so wonderful of you to do that.  My breast cancer treatments are being covered by the Women's Breast/Cervical Cancer Program and all my care is paid for through that, even the bra and prosthesis.  Sounded really great until I tried finding a place that accepted that as payment!  I finally did find one place quite a distance away from me, but at least I will be able to get it.

I think it is so thoughtful of you to coordinate this and help others!  Thank you for that!
