Well now I'm curious about your post, but don't have a minute to go track it down.
But, Norm, I know Celia is a good judge of character and I say 'hail, hail' to what she's posted above. I second her motion.
All right, buddie. What have you done in the exercise category? I've given concentrated thought to how to re-arrange my life, but have yet to take action. Will keep you posted. We're in this together!
How about anyone else? What/how do you integrate exercise into your life?

Edited to add some color at the top of the page! Here's to the glimmer's of hope that are eeking their way into your story, at the support and care of so very many who do, indeed care:

-
Norm. I come back with a heavy heart this afternoon. I've just copied this post about our dear sweet Joy, who was so frequently one to post here for you -- especially so this summer. She is now making friends with your dear Brenda.... and they will look down on you together, from their heavenly perch. This is the message from Joy's daughter:
Hello, dear friends of my Mothers,
I am very sad to tell you that my Mother, Joy, passed away over the weekend. She was never alone while in the Hospital. We were with her every day and night. Her husband was with her when she slipped away, peacefully in her sleep. She spent her last afternoon planning the details of a doughnut shop she and my 12 year old Daughter had planned to open. They laughed and talked over every flavor they would have.
She said many times that she would not have made it through this past year without your support and friendship. She stayed strong the entire time - had radiation on Weds. and chemo. on Thurs. She gave it all she had.
Thanks to all of you. I will be posting her picture this weekend. I want you to see her, smiling.
Keep us in your prayers as you are all in ours,
Kelley
Edited to add: we must make each day all that we are capable of making it. So many are taken too soon. Let us hold one another up and remember Joy's incredible spirit and voice of enthusiasm and support.
-
OMG, how sorry I am to hear this news. Prayers to Joy's family. Thankyou Faith for passing on the message.
-
Thanks for posting that faith. I was just about to when I saw that you had. My heart is breaking right now as Joy and I had become very good friends and I never expected to here this news. Norm she thought the world of you and truly cared. Please pray for Joys family, Love Suz
-
Suz. I'm so glad to see a post from you. I know that the two of you were especially close. I was just absolutely bowled-over by the news..... and I'm sure you were just crushed. I know that you were so special to each other. I was gonna send you a PM to see how you're holding up -- in light of Joy's passing. Please take very good care of yourself in the midst of this loss.
She was always so up-beat, always thinking of others..... and ALWAYS thinking of you, Norm.

Norman, so glad you are getting closer to the process of moving on and changing your life, you never know what is around the corner of life. I wish you the very best and wishing you some very happy years in your future. sherry
-
Dear Lord, Bless Norm with comfort and love threw the night. He is Your special Child
that loves to love and gives me courage is I watch him grow. Please hold him near and
help him to do what he wants to heal. AMEN
-
Norm. We literally don't have one day to waste. The thought of Joy's passing is yet another wake-up call to take genuine action on behalf of our own health stories. She would want us to use her departure from us, as a springboard to getting our lives into gear....into a much higher gear.
So. Yesterday, right after I read of her leaving us, I got up off the couch, put down my laptop and "danced" with my two year old grandson, to something that was on TV, called Hip Hop Harry. Now, I realize that this doesn't truly constitute exercise, exactly, but it was a concerted first step. An acknowledgement of sorts. An effort. A line in the sand, so to speak.
What are you going to do today? We're all in this together.

Good Morning Norm,
I, too. hope something special happens to you today. We know that you have at least 6 Angels helping you along your way...
Kelley & Joy in Heaven
-
Kelley, it is with tears in my eyes that I welcome you to your mother's place here at Norm's. I know she must be eternally grateful to you for caring on her legacy -- of reaching out. Thank you for seeking out and finding this special thread.
Norm. Two of you quitting smoking. The two of us in agreement over exercise being included. This could turn into a reality TV show about "over-coming" about leaving a legacy, about doing the right thing in the face of unrelenting challenges.
Know that I am here -- cheering for you.
Welcome aboard Kelley. We are so much stronger together. Let us weave a network of support that is strong enough to carry each of us.

I started to post before, but called called away.My sister-inlaw lives in Hope and yesterday I guess there was a snow storm. She was on her way to Chillawack and had engine problem's with the van(Brenda's van, which I gave her awhile back) It was about 4pm.She parked it off to side with the flasher's on and got a ride home. When her husband got home they went to retrieve the van and found it had been side-swiped(it's totaled).Thank GOD they weren't in it.The R.C.M.P. said no one reported hitting it,with the amount of damage they figure it was probably a semi truck because it must have kept right on going...Sure makes you wonder where the driver's mind was not to pull over and check for injuries or damage.......There were hundred's of accident's yesterday along the trans-canada Hwy.Two fatal that I've heard of so far.People have to understand there's no place they have to be and to stay off the road when the weather is so bad..norm
-
Yes. Norm. Thank all that is good in the universe, your sister-in-law is OK. Sounds like winter has arrived in earnest. Please be careful as you go about your days.
I'm always glad to hear from you.
I've started on my 'get-off-your-butt' campaign. Today's a three star day!! Move it or Lose it!
stay warm
xx00xx00xx
-
Good for you;Faith.Keep it up!!!!!!
As for me,well I have been walking more and when I move I'm going to join a fitness center and do allot more walking. The weather here makes it rather uncomfortable for long walk's(today isn't too bad -18,the warmest it's been for week's)It's normal for the temp.to be around -36 in the morning's,so I'm quiet looking forward to warmer weather down south.
Not that I'm counting but, 6 more day's till BUTT-OUT,it won't be easy but I did it for 4 yrs.before and I KNOW that I can quit FOR GOOD this time.I know Brenda's not happy with my smoking and neither am I......Moving to the big city will give me allot more to do with my time and allot more distraction's.I'll have a week or so to get my temper in check from the withdrawal's,so hopefully I can make a good impression on my new neighbor's.
Kelley,I'm rooting for you! You'll feel so much better smoke-free,I know I sure did.Do you smoke allot(think of your family and all the energy you will regain)not to mention the money you'll save.....Are you going to use any thing;I'm gonna use GOD,my angel's,and the patch...With this prescription,I can't fail...

Hi Norm,
I'm glad to hear that you plan to quit smoking. I haven't smoked in 14 years now, and my husband quit 10 years ago. He used the patch. Our health is so much better too. Good luck!! I think that we could not afford to smoke these days when i look at the price of cigarettes. It sounds like you have a pretty good plan for the move to the big city. I am excited for you about this. It will be a whole new learning experience for you.
I am also glad to hear that your sister-in-law was not hurt when the van got totaled. We just had a real dumping of snow here in Washington state and the drivers are not very used to snow. The rain here usually washes away our snow quickly, and some winters we don't get any snow at all. The drivers are doing scary stuff on the roads today because of their lack of experience.
Take care Norm.

Celia..... I had no idea that you wouldn't get much snow. Interesting tidbit to start my day.
Norm. Good for you to have quit smoking for 4 years. You know that you can do it. It will be a very great gift to yourself and others to leave that habit and walk toward healthier living.
The more amazing part was to realize that it's now just 5 days till Christmas arrives. I have a lot to do in those few days. Goodness sakes, time has a way of evaporating.
Just wanted you to know that I have a very BIG meeting today. So many possibilities exist, my friend. So many possibilities. If you would have told me five years ago that I would be perched on the edge of today's possibilities, I'd have laughed. My imagination wasn't that powerful. Yet here I am, about to have an amazing day.
Norm. I really feel like the tide has turned for you. All sorts of possibilites await in the big city. All sorts of new opportunities on the horizon. A new well-being that you can seek and find awaits.
Have a great day. Stay warm. I think you need to come up with something for exercise -- that's INSIDE. OMG. I wouldn't last a week in those temperatures. wowowowow.

-
Norman, bad storm here tonight. Home safe and sound. I think of you when it snows which is a lot!!! (((((Norm)))))
-
Faith;so how was the meeting??????? You've got my curiosity going....
Hi Sharon;how's your weather? It dropped to -39 last night but today,it's quite sunny and -26(now where did I put my sun block, haha)
Celia;thank's for the words of encouragement.I'm sure it will be rough going for awhile but it will be worth it I'msure........
Have you made a date to quit yet Kelley?Sending prayer's to you and your family.......
I received a pm message last night from an old friend that I haven't seen in over 35yrs.Just this second I'm wondering how she found me or even more so,why she was on this web site .I hope that she was just browsing and that she doesn't have a health problem.I feel that maybe I should ask her????? I don't know,I don't want to be pushy.Maybe I'll wait and see.......
Hoping all have a GREAT weekend and a safe one.I know I've got a lot of last minute Christmas shopping to do and the stores will be nut's.........

-
Norm, Faith is keeping us all in suspense!! She's got some pokers in the fire. (At least I think that's the expression.)
(((((Norm)))))
Edit to say, I hope your friend from the past is ok Norm. Maybe she is here for a friend or family member.
-
Dearest friends. I too am in suspense, believe me. I'm sitting on the edge of my chair...... wondering how all of this is gonna turn out???
But in answer to your direct question: My meeting was FANTASTIC!! Very encouraging. Very promising. Very supportive. Very keeping my fingers crossed. Very wishing-on-a-star.
This is the "second" meeting in a series of what may need to be a gazillion meetings.
So it's a getting the ducks into a row phase, before I can say anything more.
Believe me, when I have anything to say, I'll hire a mariachi band, send up fireworks and we'll all have a seriously BIG party.
In the meantime: one step at a time.
-
Norm,
Sharon could be right, your old friend could be here for a family member, hopefully. I think it best to just write back and see if she opens up about her reason for being here. The blessing in this is that she found you and you both get to catch up with each other.
Yes, that Faith of ours is the busiest and most creative person i know and she always has irons in the fire (that is the same thing as what Sharon said!). We are wishing her well in her latest venture, hoping for the best outcome. She will tell us soon.
Faith, we actually don't get very cold weather here in the Seattle area. We mostly have rain for 11 months. There is not a lot of snow, we seldom go below freezing, and it is not consistant. However, that being said, we had 6 to 8 inches of snow the other day and more is predicted for next week. And apparently we broke some 1950's record for the lowest temperature this past few days. Norm, you said you had temps of -39 and -29. Is that Celsius or Fahrenheit? We use Fahrenheit here in the States, and Canada uses Celsius, don't they? Well, minus anything sounds COLD to me!
Norm, hope you get all of your Christmas shopping done. Lots of cyber hugs and prayers for you at this holiday season time.
hugs, celia
