micro mets in one sentinal node
I had 1mm micro mets in one sentinal node and all other 21 nodes are clear as I had mastectomy and desection of nodes. Does any one know if that means it is almost like node negative? I read last year 07 San Antonio conference, saying that micro mets in one sentinal node is considered as node negative since there is no survival difference comparing to the node negative. However, I am still bothered by the fact that there is tiny little stuff in the one sentinal node.

I think it depends on who you talk to.
My bs would say that you would be essentially node negative, and treat you as such, while my onc would say a pos. node is a pos. node, and treat you as such.
No help, I know. Yet another gray area in bc txt.

I was positive for one node..micro as well. I was still given chemo as it was considered invasive.
Good luck

My surgeon had said he would not do anything if is was micro.
You would get chemo anyway because of the triple neg since this is the only treatment there is (besides radiation).
I would not be too concerned...easy for me to say..mine was clear. Sorry I'm not much help...

My experience has been the same as Emily's - some consider it node negative and follow those proctocals and others consider it node positive. My medical oncologist considered it node positive and used the chemo protocal of 6 tx of TAC. But, Oncotype DX was available to me because they considered me node negative.
I have taken the view that no cancer in the sentinel nodes would have been better but less cancer found is better than more found. Iit is what it is regardless of what stage you want to call it.
I know - not much help

I do have a micro met as well, mine is 2mm. I was told by my onc that 2mm is the small possible saize to be able to call it positive. Actually 1/3 pathology report say I have a positive node of 2 mm, the other 2 aren't mentionning it.

Hi there,
If I were you, I'd insist on radiation at the very least. Triple neg is very aggressive, and even a micromet can start growing and cause a recurrence.
Love,
Annie

Hi annie
I had a full desection of all nodes after they found the micro mets of 1mm in the sentinal node and a mastectomy. All the nodes were clear so they told me I don't need radiation as there is no place to radiate. But I am on aggressive chemo, dense dose AC and Toxol plus carboplantin.

I had micromets in one node out of 22. This was AFTER 8 treatments of dose dense chemo. So who knows - there may have been more nodes involved.
I had radiation since I had lumpectomy.
I have over 5 1/2 years cancer free.
Love to All, JoAnn

hi Joann
Did they desect the node with micromets in or the radiation took care of it so that micromets node ws not removed?
