Leg swelling
Hi all,
I am so tired of this. I spend three days working out LOW impact walking... and the right leg and ankle is swelling again. My onco had that leg/veins ultrasound 5 months ago... fine... great blood flow...
Well, it is not fine and now they want to ultrasound again... WHY is my leg swelling? I eat little salt... I am thin... I eat tons of fruits and veggies daily...???????????????????????
It drives me nuts... hurts too...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.. waiting to see what time the are setting my up for another ultrasound...
Anyone know what it could be... started right BEFORE chemo... not after...
Also.. I have not had any surgery yet... just finished neo-chemo

Hi Laura
Did you have taxotere? That caused my legs and feet to swell something awful. My PCP put me on 20MG of Lasix, which helped. In fact, I am still on it and I finished chemo in June, 2007. If you had taxotere, that's probably what's causing it. Jeri

I had taxol .....maybe?
-
Definitely could be-tey are in the same family. Sucks, doesn't it?

My legs are still swelling from Taxol, and I finished it in May. The swelling was daily during Tx, and has gradually receded. Very little now, but I still see it. I too am thin, work out daily, eat little salt, and have never had an issue (before this) with leg swelling.

Hi guys, I did not have taxol, and it's not my legs, it's my hands.....am on week #4 of arimidex and onc says that is not it, nor lupron.
Sending me back to my primary..........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Anyone?

I also was on it and off chemo for 16 weeks and still on the water pills and potassium pills because without that one my pot. gets too low and my hair hasn't come back to speak of just patches here and there hopefully by spring I am thinking its pretty discouraging ...

I also second the idea of blaming it on the taxane drugs. You may have had a slight tendency toward edema prior to your chemo - but taxol and taxotere can make it worse than you've ever experienced. Couple that with the swelling effects of your pre-meds (ie the decadron / dexamethasone) and it's not pretty. I commend your MD for erring on the side of caution, though - and checking it out thoroughly. DVT is not unheard of in the context of chemotherapy, too.
Best of luck!
Lisa
