(PIP, karyorrhexis was a word I learned on my job this past summer -- medical editing/proofreading -- it refers to the destroyed nucleus of a cell that died, whether for good reasons, like programmed cell death, or not-so-good, like kidney disease.  The doctor who wrote the paper kept spelling it a million different ways!  I really had to hunt to find the correct spelling!)
