when the two-year results from the HERA trial are due to be published?  I'm wondering if they'll show that taking Herceptin for two years is more beneficial than taking it for one.... I dont' see my oncologist for another few months, so won't be able to ask him.  If anyone has info or can ask they're onc... please let me know.

Thanks... Lisa

I'm guessing/hoping that something will be announced during the San Antonio Breast Cancer Conference coming up in the next couple weeks.

If the results for the 2 years look better, I wonder how we get insurance to pay for it.  Any ideas?

     Thanks,

    Jackie

Thanks, Jackie.  You are probably right, I'll be watching for news out of the San Antonio Conference.  Re: insurance paying... no clue.  I live in Canada.  We don't have to pay for treatment up here, it's provided free of charge.

This topic has come up many times on the her2 board because the HERA results were always due out each yr and then the ASCO conference would come and go and we would find the HERA results were always pushed back till a later date.  So most took that to mean that two years was not any better then one or we would of heard about it sooner.

Don't quote me but I remember something being said  about this not long ago on the her2support board.  And I believe what they said was that there was no differences in the BIRG study of one year of herceptin, & the european HERA study which was 2 yrs.  (Again...don't quote me....anyone that knows different please feel free to correct me.)  Not sure if this helps...I may have confused you all more.

I pretty sure results for 2 years Herceptin from the european HERA trial are not available yet (I have been looking hard - I have access to just about every journal since I'm a researcher at a pharmaceutical company)

The fact that the 2 year trial results have not been reported could go either way:

Since the trial is designed to look at results after a predetermined number of events (recurrances or deaths) have taken place - results may not have been reported because the required number of events of have not taken place - possibly a sign of good news - people are not recurring very often.  Or

The trial showed no improvement for 2 years vs. 1 year, thus no one is excited to publish the results - the investigators will get around to it when they get time.

    Its hard to wait.

Meanwhile - all you premenopausal ER or PR positive ladies go talk to your onc about getting infused with zoledronic acid.  A large, well done study showed this reduced recurrance by 36% in er/pr + cancers.  I've seen two oncs - this is the first thing they have ever agreed on.  Study supporting this was ASBCG-12.  For you postmenopausal ladies, results from AZURE trial should be available soon.
