scuba diving

I have not been able to find any information about a prosthesis that will work for scuba diving.  Does anyone know what happens to foam or the waterproof prosthesis at 100 ft. under the water?  I am often on the beach and swim laps for exercise, so what should I look for in a water resilient prosthesis?

I'm not a scuba diver OR a chemist (Smile) but the silicon pros I wear every day:...I cannot imagine it being affected by diving or anything else. I'm a sculptor and an art teacher and I'm not bad with materials of all kinds. I imagine that if you reserved a silicon form just for diving (and washed it properly in rain-water) it would serve you very well.

    Hi,

I used a swimming silicon prothesis when I went diving last summer. I also did extensive enquires to make sure it was safe to start back scuba diving. I was advised that it was safe provided my enegry levels were ok. The long term problems might be concerning the lungs as a result of the radio as the tissue may harden. I had no problems with the diving except that carrying the heavy equipment ( I'm 4ft 9) because of  the risk of developing  lymphdema. I got round it by telling the dive school and one of the instructors helped me out. I would say go for it and don't tlet bc stop you doing what you love as long as you educate yourself for your own circumstances. happy bubbles.

Thanks so much for the info.  Can you recommend a brand of swimming silicon prothesis?  I don't work in the US so I have to get everything I'll need before I head out of here.  I will gladly let someone else carry my tank from now on Cool Good point.

When you enquire about the prosthesis, ask questions about how it does under pressure.  Exposure to the water is one thing but response to being under the pressure changes associated with diving are another question.  I do not know the answer.  I only know the question.  :-)

I have asked the question many times, and no one knows anything about it, not even the folks who make the prosthesis.  I even tried dive sites like DAN and nothing.  Certainly I am not the first scuba diver to have a mastectomy....
