Nash - I don't know that much about thermograms. What is the test like and what does it mean that it is "glowing". I don't think I like the sound of that. Hope all is OK with the bad boob and the thyroid too.

Hey, DeAnn. Here's a link that explains the thermogram well:

    http://www.breastthermography.com/breast_thermography_proc.htm

The theory behind thermograms is that cellular changes produce heat, and thus cancer cells will be hotter than normal cells. But thermograms are non-specific as to finding the location of a lump, and the tissue can be hotter from an infection or something like that. So you've got to use them in conjunction with other sorts of imaging.

So I've got a section on the bad boob that is 1.1 degrees hotter than the other areas, and it directly correlates with a section where I have had a lot of pain for months. My guess would be that it has something to do with a post-radiation change in the tissue that are causing inflammation. I think it would be really unlikely that after chemo, rads and current tamoxifen that I've got more cancer brewing in there. And if I do have more cancer brewing in there, it would have to be some really bad ass cells to get through all that. So I think it's post-radiation issues.

And Angie, I looked in the mirror this morning, and a Jonas Brother was looking back at me. Did you send him over to my house? He's sweet and all, but he can go home now.

    Hi Nash...

Interesting about the Thermogram thingy - you inspired me to learn a bit on the technology. I found it is probably a very interesting tool of diagnosis - the stats are quite impressive.

In your case - you got me worried. then I also thought of the pain you mention, and am wondering if it may rather be correlated with a small infection of some kind - or an "irritation" - do you have an implant there? or at any rate, scar tissues, as it is your "bad boob". In all those case, an irritation generating heat would be credible. I guess that it is the weakness of thermography as a diagnostic tool for people like us; it is  a good flagging tool, but I would expect all of us coming up with a hotter boob.

Not that I want to discount your finding, nor say that you shouln't follow up. I am just saying that perhaps it isn't too bad...

.... hey, I always knew we are a group of hot chicks... Cool

Dear Hot Boob, (Sorry. The conversation made me do it. There are not alot of people with whom I can use that endearing term - and still keep my life and social contacts.)

I'm wondering too, if it's got something to do with the radiation. I know my radiated breast is STILL warmer in places than the other one. It's much more normal now (11 months out), but there is still a temperatuare variation...could it be something like that, i wonder? Lilith is right - I would expect any of us (who had been radiated) to register on a machine that picked up heat.

Hey Harley, how goes the job hunt?

And June, How are you doing? Long time, no Clickity Clackity.

DeAnn - didn't you say your dh was a beer distributer, or sales rep for a brewery? Does he work for a company I might know? I am presently being enlightened to the venerable World of Beer. It's apparently HUGE in Portland, and my new Son-In-Law (whose weapon of choice is IPA, btw) has been asked to write a tasting column for the local paper up there for all the local beers and where they're sold etc.  So. I guess I need to do a little research so I know what questions to ask him.

Angie - What KIND of exercising did you do to shake that weight off..? I was so inspired by your post, and then I ignored it. Sheesh.

Love to all you peeps.  (see how cutting edge and "textie" I can be?!)

ok, I looked at the site for the Thermography, and it doesn't SEEM as though irradiated breasts would show hot spots just because they've been irradiated...the sensitivity does seem to pick up things of a vascular nature.  Keep us posted. (duh)

And whoa, dude - those pictures looked like they were part of an Andy Warhol exhibit.

    Groovy.

Indeed my DH is a beer importer. It would be pretty unusual for anybody who isn't heavily steeped in the world of Belgian beer to have ever heard of his company. Most folks can't even pronounce the names of the beers he brings in.  But, if you have any place around you that sells Belgian beers, look for Kwak, Tripel Karmeliet, Koenigshoeven, Urthel... I know there are others but I can't remember them all at the moment.  Warning. They are kind of strong! I can only drink one, and I try not to have more than two or three in a month because of the whole alcohol/cancer connection worries.

I'll have to check out those thermograms pictures!

Hello, it is I of the Hot Tata. My other tata, which is sort of droopy and didn't light up any interesting colors at all, is sort of boring by comparison.

Well, I've been vacilating about what is causing the temp increase and pain in the bad boob. There is definately some sort of inflammation there, b/c I have a lot of pain, but I don't think it's an infection (I don't have an implant), so the only thing I can think of is radiation damage. The holistic doc is also a board certified radiologist and heads up the breast imaging for a hospital in the area, so she's not some sort of granola quack and I trust her judgment. In her writeup of the thermogram, she mentioned the red area could be post-surgical in nature, although that's the opposite side of the boob from the surgery site. She did not mention post-radiation changes. So I don't know. I will bring this all up with the new onc next month. There is definately something going on in the boob, but the question is just what.

Hope all is well with everyone!!

And I'll have to figure out some way to scan in the thermogram picture and post it, b/c the red spot is really strange. It's shaped like an arrow with a curly tail. I'm not making this up--it almost looks like the tail of a cartoon devil. It's really weird.

OK, I just uploaded a copy of the thermogram pictures onto our Yahoo group. If you guys have a chance, check it out. It's freaky--sort of like I have Spawn of Satan living in my boob, which I very well may, actually.

I feel like one of those cheese sandwiches on E-bay that looks like the Virgin Mother or something.

Holy Cow, Nash! Spawn of Satan you're not kidding! Hey, if you're going to host alien-being-tails, would you please stick to ones that look  less threatening?...Pick a better model. Like something off of Hugh Jackman? Face - elbow - knee - anything would be better than what you've got!

    Yikes!

    Nash,

I would have to agree with the others, about the thermogram of your bad boob.  We already have issues, so I would think it would pick up something on every one of us.  I have scar tissue, after my bilateral mast.  Please keep us posted on that HOT BOOB!!! Laughing

    Kaye,

I haven't found a job yet, but I am going to take a break from the job search for a few months, until we get back from our cruise in February.  DH and I are taking another Caribbean cruise, and it should be fun!  It will be his BIG 5-0 birthday!!

    Hugs to all,

    Harley

Drats. I am a bit bummed - I just figured out that it appears I had (note please the past tense) grade 3 (youch) cancer.... I don't like the sound of this. Aggressive devil (to go with Nash's definîtion).

Anyway, I am going in on Friday for - ovariectomy, nipple recon, removal of the port AND a bit of liposuction on my tummy. I'll be in touch... After that, I'll probably switch from Tamox to Arimidex or Femara... no reason not to.

Harley - happy happy happy cruising! what a perfect season to celebrate a birthday on a cruise, the Caribbeans are such a lovely area this time of the year!!! enjoy!

    Hi Ladies,

Just caught up on all the posts.  My laptop is now hooked up to a monitor on the desk in the basement because the screen of the laptop is destroyedFrown  I haven't been on in quite a while, but being in the basement inspires me to do some laundry.  I think it was my family's secret plan.

Nash.....Anyway, this hot boob thing is weird.  I hope it's nothing.

Lilith....good luck on all your tweaking.  You will be a new woman on Saturday!!!! Sorry about the Grade 3...I try not to think of these stages and grades too much.  As you said, it's all in the past now and we are truly a bunch of evolving hot chicks!!

    Harley....another cruise.  You go girl!!!

Angie, great news of the weight loss.  I just lost 5 pounds on weight watchers and it's taking forever....I guess I should take your lead and start exercising.

Kaye....are you planning on putting beer in your smoothies???? Ha! Ha!  Then I'll start making some.  Let me knowCool

Hope everyone else is doing okay.  Once again, I will take this opportunity to thank you....my lifesavers.   We are all (hopefully) in such a better place this year.  When I look in the mirror I actually am starting to see me again.  I know I'm different inside (and parts of my outside) and will never be the same but I feel.......happy again!!! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping to get me to this place.  I love you girls.

    Okay, enough mushy stuff.

Nash, I will be praying for you and your family this year because I know it will be a bittersweet Thanksgiving Day for you.

I am going to Manhattan today to have Thanksgiving Day with my husband's sister and her two boys.   Happy, Happy Thanksgiving Day!!!!!! to all of you and your family.

    Lots of hugs, Jackie

Well. my thanksgiving didn't involve turkey, and my friday didn't involve shopping - here I am back, with 2 ovaries less, 2 nipples more, one port removed, 2lb of belly fat sucked off (yuck huh), and not feeling too bad. :)

;) and, I got a job offer... I'll tell you girls more on the yahoo group!!

Can't wait to hear about the job offer, Lilith! And how exciting about the rearrangement of body parts! Glad you're feeling pretty good.

Thanksgiving was really nice and quiet. We were supposed to travel to my SIL's, but both DH and DS were sick with viruses, so we stayed home. I had to cook on the fly, as we weren't planning on being here, but it turned out great, we have lots of nice leftovers, and I ended up getting more sleep over the weekend than I have gotten in a really long time.

Hope everyone had a good holiday. Smile

    Lilith,

Great news about the job offer!  I'm glad that all went well with your new body re organization!!

Thanksgiving was pretty quiet here.  I don't like turkey (is that un-American?), so we had chicken.  I have been eating almost non-stop since Thursday, and even though I feel stuffed, I am sure I will eat again tomorrow...

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

I am sitting here waiting for Animal Control to come retrieve the wild turkey that is in my yard. No joke. I thought the kids were confused when they opened the shutters this morning and said, "Mommy, there's a turkey outside". I though perhaps it was an oversized road runner, but sure enough, there was a turkey peering in my window. Obviously seeking revenge for its relatives. Anyhow, it's now just wandering around, gobbling. Should be interesting when the Animal Control people get here. I'd keep it as a pet, but it keeps pooping everywhere.

Animal Control has arrived and has had to call for backup, as my rogue turkey is a bit feisty, it seems. I watched all this unfold while having a leftover turkey sandwich for lunch--terribly ironic. The funny thing is, there are no wild turkeys in this area. It's a mystery.

Hmm. Maybe the turkey was sensing what was going on to one of it's brethen inside your home and decided he'd better put on a good fight lest he end up in the same position!

San Diego is definitely not the sort of place you expect to see wild turkeys. Very unusual!

Wild Turkey? You've got to be KIDDING! I knew there were some re-located peacocks down there, but holy COW...Did Animal Control have any idea from where it came? Like, was there an axe-wielding farmer running down the street after it? Did anybody file a Missing Turkey Report on Thanksgiving? Did it come with a sign around it's neck that said "EAT HAM"? Maybe he was the annual "Pardoned Turkey" that the President pardons every year...and, feeling lucky, he came to the casinos, but made a wrong turn on the 405...hey,  this is AMERICA. Anything is possible. This is the Land of Opportunity. (Especially in YOUR back yard!)

We haven't heard anymore from you...DH wants to know:

"Are you there, or did the Turkey win?"

Hey Lilith, How goes the "pop-on" parts? I like the part about the 2 pounds of fat liposucked. ME WANT THAT..... (the procedure on ME. Not your old fat.) How long is the recovery from all that stuff?

Animal Control backup arrived on Tuesday, chased the turkey around the yard, and it ended up flying off, after having spent seven hours putzing around my back yard. Animal Control thinks that someone brought it down from the mountains with the intent of eating it for Thanksgiving, and that it made a break for it.

I said to my husband, "That turkey looked much too content in our yard--he'll be back".

And lo, there he was today. And he brought a friend. A bigger, fatter friend. So now I have two wild turkeys in my yard. I called Animal Control back, and they started laughing so hard they could hardly speak. They said, "Maybe the other one is a hen, and you'll have lots of baby turkeys soon." Excellent, I could start a breeding farm. Go into business.

This is all especially amusing as there are simply no turkeys in the entire county. Yet two end up in my yard.  I'm telling you, they're seeking revenge, and now the first one has brought along reinforcements.
