My doctor wants to add carboplantin in addition to the AC T. Is that good? Any one had done that?

    Hi newalex,

I did not have carboplantin but have heard that lots of docs are adding plantinum chemos to trip negs now. Showing good results by doing so. I know some ladies here have had it.

    Hugs,

    Sue

newalex, I'm really all for carbo for triple negatives.  Most triple negs who have had it responded.  I'm just puzzled at how your doctor will add carbo.  ACT is already a pretty aggressive regimen and tough to take (lots of side effects).  It will be a lot tougher to get ACT plus Carbo.  Maybe he's talking about giving you Carbo by itself after you have completed ACT?

    Best wishes..

    Pinehouse,

You had recurrences more than 5 years after the dx and that is not usual for TN or was your early dx were not related to the latest one? Do you have family history or BRCA1 check?

My doc said maybe add to toxol. I am early stage with 1 cm and 1 micro node but I want to treat it aggressively.

I am not familiar with Carboplantin.  Your doctor just adds it to your treatment or you require it.  Does your stress or worry affect doctor's?

I had BC in 2005 and 2007. Second one wasn't related to first, according to onc, even though they were both triple-neg. (One was medullary and the other was IDC.)

In 2005, I had four dose-dense (every two weeks) AC followed by four dose-dense Taxols. In 2007, I had 12 weekly infusions (three weeks on and one off) of Taxol/Carboplatin.

For me, the weekly Taxol/Carbo was *much* easier on my body than my 2005 regimen. I was worried, because I had residual numbness in my finger tips and toes after the 2005 Taxol. So I wasn't too keen on more Taxol, much less Carboplatin, which also causes neuropathy.

But I did very well. My numbness got worse after each infusion but would subside back to "normal" by my next treatment. I still have a little numbness (more than a year after treatment) but it's no worse than what I had after recovering fully from 2005 chemo.

Carboplatin is supposed to be VERY effective on triple-neg.

    newalex,

Yes, I have the BRCA1 mutation.  Probably that explained why I had the multiple recurrences.

So it sounds like you will be doing AC and then followed by Carbo/Taxol.  Seems like a reasonable plan given the fact that you want to be super aggressive.

I've done carbo in two different setting about two years apart.  Carbo, Gemzar and Avastin has been the only chemo combo that I've had a response to out the the eight given so far.  I found it a very doable chemo.

I finished up a 6 cycle treatment regime of carboplatin and taxotere in June.  I started with a 6cm tumor that had spread to the skin and ended up with a tiny little bit left and neg nodes.  I started to notice the tumor shrinking after the second  cycle.  My tumor was trip-neg.  I really like my onc and feel as tho he really keeps up with the best treatments.. I was also able to work throughout chemo..Good luck to you  throughout your treatments! Embmom

I just started Taxol & Carboplatin. I have 9 x scheduled and I have done 4x now. I started with Taxotere & Cisplatin 4x then AC & Cytoxan 4x, Had radical double mastectomy, removed a 12.5cm tumor. I came up as a Trip Neg. They found out I  have 3 positive lymph nodes & cancer on my chest wall. I have mild side effects so far with the Taxol & Carboplatin than the others. They were hard on me. I love my doctor she is really good and is working hard on this. She is voted the best in America. I am doing chemo and radiation at the same time so I am really exhausted.

Take care and I do wish you the best.

    In God's Grace, Elizabeth
