Has anybody had this combination.  This is the third change in six months,  first TAC plus Avastin, 5  tri weekly tx, then Gemzar Carpo and Avastin for three tri weekly tx, now xeloda and lxempra for don't know how long.  I know SE 's are different with everybody, but any heads up is appreciated

hi, tried to get on this site before unable to before work done on computer. i read many letters from others on ixempra but can't seem to get back to that page. anyway i have met. breast cancer to bones and liver, i have been battleling since end of 99. real long story which i won't go in to right now. i now am on ixempra and have had 3 doses , i have had the worst side effects of any chemo i have been on and i have been on many over the years .  it is comforting to know that i am not alone because all of you are saying the same thing about little info. what i have been fighting is severe joint pains, headaches, n/v, numbness hands and feet, extreme fatigue and low counts. had to have a pint of blood last week. had another bone scan and it shows bone cancer is stable not increasing so will have to hang in there yet. and yes i no longer need shampoo. sounds like we all are pretty much in the same boat. ativan has helped the nausea. oxycodone for the pain and sleep and prayers for the rest. so if anyone has other remedies to share that would be great.  hopeful

The ixempra did have more SE's for my wife than any other chemo.  She did get referal to supportive care for SE management.  Here are some of the things that worked for her.

    1.  Changed from oxycodone to a 15mg Morphine Control Release tablet every 12 hrs.  This gave much better pain management with less problems.  (not spaced out, less constipation, less nausea).  She was also given script for break through tabs of 15 mg Morphine but seldom ever had to use.

    2.  Given ABH for nausea. This is a compound that can be pill or suppository or even topical.  (this is a combination of Ativan, benadryl, and haldol.)  Helped with nausea and helped relaxed her

    3.  Hydrate, Hydrate, hydrate...gatoraide

    4.  Mix baking soda and water for mouth sores,  even if don't have them, rinsing several times a day prevents them.

ibcspouse,   thanks for the info. i am allergic to morphine so am trying to get by with some of the others. they sent me to a pain clinic where they injected me with a combination of cortisone and lidocaine in key area's like vertebra and joints where the bone cancer is so bad. they also prescribed a liquid for mouth sores called magic mouth wash, it has been very helpful, druggest mixes it according to script from dr. not expensive. how long has your wife been diagnosed? i hope she can be encouraged by my longevity, attitude has a lot to do with it , i live alone with a very supportive little dog and a lot of family support , i still have a fair amount of quality of life, i just returned from walmart and thats a challenge for a well person! i always say i have cancer, cancer does not have me. so keep your chins up and keep fightingwould like to keep in touch with your progress.  hopeful
