BC during 1st Pregnancy & now pregnant again

I'm hoping that maybe through the huge BC.org community I can find a few women who have been in my situation.  I was dx with IDC & DCIS, stage 2a in the 8th month of my 1st pregnancy.  My son was born healthy & is now 3 1/2 years old. I went through chemo, rads, lumpectomy, & Herceptin; totally finished all treatments last year and have been told by my docs that I am doing great. My BC was ER/PR- and Her2+ with 2+ nodes.  I just found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant (unplanned) and am excited but scared at the same time.  I know that there are no guarantees in life and that a recurrence could occur with or without a pregnancy.  My stats (ER/PR-) say that the BC had nothing to do with the pregnancy, but I'm still scared about this one.  Anyone have any words of comfort from having "been there done that" themselves?

I havent been there but I think I can understand what your saying here....

A new baby, wow, what a pleasant surprise but given the circumstances I think it will be a long 9 months...

But your right ya know.....because of the negative for hormone factor in the breast cancer "YOU HAD" (its gone now!!!!) try to relax a little and enjoy the idea that you will soon have a little brother or sister for that sweet little man you have....

I know its scarey but I must say "CONGRADULATIONS!!!!"

    Hugs

I know that there are others on this site that have been expecting and dealing with bc so I know it is doable, but I can only imagine the head trip that it causes.....heck, bc is bad enough without little ones to worry about too.....

I will watch for news of you and your family so please keep posting about your progress during your pregnancy and obviously want to see pics of the new addition as well as of your little man too!!!!

    You will do great!!!

I think there's a site www.pregnantwithcancer.com or .org  Also, you may find someone to connect with through www.fertilehope.org or www.youngsurvival.org

    Wishing you all the best!

    Jennifer,

My situation at the time of my breast cancer diagnosis (also IDC and DCIS) was exactly the same as yours.  I was also 8 months pregnant.  My son is now 1-1/2.  My BC was ER/PR+.  I am planning to try another pregnancy in the future.  There are no studies to show that it causes or worsens BC.  In fact, the most recent studies are starting to show that pregnancy may actually be preventive if it occurs 2+ years following diagnosis.  In your case, I would estimate that because you were ER/PR- you really don't have anything to worry about.  I'm not sure how the hormones of pregnancy could cause a hormone negative cancer to grow.  Enjoy your pregnancy !  If you would like to private message me, please do. :)
