just curious

I am just checking to see if anyone else experiences this.  I mostly wear the contact form with regular non-underwire bras.  About once or twice a week I wear the prosth that I put in my Amoena or Anita mast. bras.  Once in a while I feel sore-like a muscular type of soreness.  No swelling and it seems where the most tissue was removed.  I am not concerned that it is anything scary since it goes away for months at a time but I am just wondering if this is common.  Does not impede my activity but is just something I noticed and am curious if others experience the same on and off.  And who else can I ask?

    Carol,

Not sure if it's the same thing, but just the other day I felt sore in the area where my left breast was removed two years ago. That's the side that didn't have radiation, so I was surprised. It went away after a day. I had gone to the gym and done what I thought were some "light" exercises, but maybe my chest didn't think so.

I find it hard not to worry about every little bump on the skin or ache that I feel. Recently, I had several tiny pimple-like bumps on the radiated side. I applied moisturizer diligently for a few days and they receded, so I think it was just that the skin there is more sensitive.

I still have a little bit of fluid left on the radiated side, too, right where I had my boost over five years ago. After my original lumpectomy and rads, my breast was slightly swollen in that area for 2 1/2 years! Then it finally went away. After my mastectomy, that area has re-swelled. It's barely noticeable, but it bothers me (and it's one reason I haven't yet tried contact forms). It's been two years and I'm hoping it will go away eventually (my BS thinks it will).

Sorry, your question gave me the opportunity to vent about my own little concerns!

    Barbara-

Vent away!  I completely get it.  I think I have some slight swelling at times (mostly near the snb scar) but I have also noticed less of it when I DO wear the contact form.  It is counterintuitive but that's what seems to happen with me.  Of course, it could just be a cooincidence.

I remember my gyn telling me that she has patients who feel strange shooting pain-type sensations years after mast.  Probably nerves regenerating or something.  I have just recently felt some of those so I am glad I had a heads up.  I have also noticed more feeling on that side so I wonder if what I felt is related to that.  Now I am venting-or rambling.

As far as the worrying goes, I guess we all have that.  I think I have a handle on it and then something new or unusual pops up and I start the worrying cycle all over again.  It is sort of annoying, isn't it?

    Hi Carol,

I'm 8 years out from dx and I have the muscle soreness you describe every once in a while too.  I also have the shooting pains and even a deep itch that can not be satisfied.  I used to try and figure these little quirks out, but there seems to be neither rhyme nor reason.  I have several forms and bras and it doesn't seem to matter which I'm wearing, so I don't think these are a cause. I will say, even after all this time, I seem to be getting more and more feeling back in my scar and upper arm area.  I guess when it comes right down to it, the body and healing is a wondrous thing!
