I was diagnosed with IDC this past Monday. Friday evening I found out that my cancer is triple neagative. My tumor is very small I'm told 8mm (very good). i wanted to put off surgery until after the holidays but my surgeon said absolutely not. She agreed to 12/8/08 which is three weeks away. I have many reasons not the least of which is not wanting to go back to work right at the start of the holiday weeks. Do you think I am crazy?????

It is only three weeks and I can get my life in order, as well as returning to work after the new year.

I am schedued for lumpectomy and sentinal node bx. The plan at this time is to follow with radiation.

    boatergirl,

Sorry you rec'd this news at the holidays.  You would be surprised how many of us were dx at this time of the year. Including me.  I got my port put in Friday after Thanksgiving three years ago.

There is no easy answer to your question about wanting the time to get organized.   I know most would say rush into treatment. But I have found that cancer will do what it wants.  You will learn through the next few months that your schedule is no longer yours:(   So if I were you...I would have the lumpectomy ASAP and hold off the rads until the new year.  I have faith that if you are going to beat this disease you are going to do it if it is next week or next month.  A few days will not change your course of disease.

I hope you find peace with whatever you decide.  Welcome and let us know how we can help you over the next few weeks.

I appreciate your response. I did talk to the nurse at my surgeons office today, who told me she did not think the doctor would have let me schedule on the 8th of Dec if she thought it would make a difference.

My family is having a hard time with it, and causing me to second quess. Then today the surgoen I work with (he is a plastic surgeon) is questioning my decision to have lumpectomy instead of mastectomy. I thought I was so settled with my original decision, and now I just feel confused. It is a good feeling to come to this site and be able to chat with women who understand.

I am still learning to navigate this site. Like everytime I have another question, do I start a new topic? Cause man do I keep coming up with questions.

    boatergirl,

Start a new topic is the best way to get a fast answer.  Also keeps the conversation a little more on track for the topic.

Fire away with the questions...believe me we all have them.
