Pregnant after Lupron treatment??

I am just now a first time BC fighter but Yes I did have Lupron and about 8 months later got pregnant with first.  Actually we had given up trying to have a baby when all of a sudden I thought is it possible and cried and cried when it was positive.  We had spent 4 years of infertility and me with Endometriosis.  Anyhow just wanted to let you know that yes someone did get pregnant after Lupron.  In fact part of me wants to say Lupron helped me because I did get pregnant and all other options had failed.  Good luck!

       Lupron does not treat infertility and you can only be on it a short period of time due to the health risks.

"Since treatment with Lupron Depot lowers hormone levels, during treatment with Lupron Depot you may experience side effects such as bone density loss and hot flashes. Bone density loss may be partially or completely recovered after you stop therapy..." (From the Lupron website).

More often than not you will have to take fertility drugs to conceive if you are having serious problems. I quote "Unless infertility is your main concern, hormone therapy is the first-choice treatment for endometriosis..." From WebMd

Lupron should also not be used as a treatment for infertility but, only for a treatment to pain from endometriosis. Endo is not usually cured

I had my periods return back to normal but can't remember how soon as it's been almost 4 years now and I am lucky to know my name some days.  Lol.  Anyhow, Lupron usually is not taken for more than 6 months due to increase of higher risks of alot of things and yes you should wait at least 3 months but prob more like 6 months after it just to be sure it's out of your system.  They say the same thing about Birth control....so that it minimizes the effects/health of the unborn baby.  HTH.

I would have responded to your post early had I read it.....I'm not on the boards much. 

I actually got pregnant while taking Zoladex (like Lupron) to shut my ovaries down. I took it monthly and was on it for around a year when I became pregnant. Long story short, after they dated me for due date I realized that I had actually received two shots before finding out I was pregnant and had a prophylactic left mastectomy (pregnancy was too early to show up on urine preg test). BTW, my daughter is 9 months old and a perfect little miracle.

Completely scared is an understatement as far as I'm concerned. I have never been dx with cancer; however, I had a mass on my left ovary in 2006 along with a 10cm cyst on the left ovary and 8cm on the right. Consecutive surgeries for two months resulted in removing the mass as well as 3/4ths of my left ovary and 1/2 of my right. In October of 2008, I had cysts return on both ovaries and another laproscopy done. They found Endometriosis. My doctor suggested Lupron. Wanting to trust this, I went ahead and tried not to research online because if the information is accurate, they only state the negatives. Well, unless of course you're in a community with people who've lived the experiences. I'm 29, divorced and dating. Scared that I'll never have my chance to become a mother. I tell you, like you and many others, I pray for the day my reproductive system begins to function normally. May 11th marks 3 months since my last injection. I try not to think about it during intimate moments but I'm constantly aware if it is uncomfortable then I know to stop so I don't flip my ovary due to the PCOS. I can't imagine the fear that you strong women have had to endure given your diagnoses, you're in my thoughts.

 I love that there is some reassuring information here. Do keep posting, I would love to know there is still a chance!

may I ask how old you were when you used the lupron?

hi jewelzw7 - I'm currently having zoladex shots (which is same sort of thing as lupron) to shut down my ovaries during chemo.  I only had 3 x monthly shots to get me thorugh.  My onc has said I have to take tamoxifen for 5 years, but when I saw my fertility specialist she said to me that a lot of women go off it as long as everythign is going ok after 2 years to try for a baby and then can go back on it afterwards.  I was 28 when diagnosed and me and my husband were already trying for a baby when this happened - when the onc said I had to wait for 5 years I cried just was the biggest indication to me that life had changed.  From all assurances given to me given our young age everything should be ok - fingers crossed hey?

My Sister-In-Law was 32 when she went on Lupron to supress her "one remaining ovary" during her very aggressive chemo treatment for stage 4 germ-cell cancer (female version of what Lance Armstrong had).  I believe she did that to preserve her fertility as well.  She was pregnant within a year after discontinuing Lupron.  This was with only one ovary, and without even trying.  So, yes you have a good chance.

Hi everyone, im so pleased i have found this site as i having been seeking help for months now. I had chemo and was on zoladex and tamox for 2 yrs. I finsihed them both 6 mths ago and no periods back yet!!! My estrogen levels are still low and i am worried i am never going to get my periods back. We so want children and feel quite desperate - has anyone been in this position and how long did it take after stopping zoladex to get your periods back? please reply

I did 6 months of Zoladex during chemo. My period came back about 7 months after the last chemo/Zoladex. 10 months after that I was pregnant (conceived naturally with only 1.5 ovaries) and I am now 31 weeks pregnant. I wish you good luck: it can happen!!

This post is one of two I could find when I was desparately searching for ANY information on Lupron treatment and how long it would take for my period to return. There is a tad of annedotal information on the old YSC message board but not the new one. This was important to me, and I wanted to post for other women when I had my own answer.

 I was DX'd in May 2007 at 30 years old. Stage 2A. Bilat. Chemo. ER/PR+. Was on Femara and Lupron from Jan. 2008 to Oct. 2011, so nearly 4 years. I had not had a period in nearly five years when I went off meds in Oct for family planning. Without ever getting my period back, I somehow got pregnant on my first ovulation cycle. Holy moly and am now about two months pregnant.

 Stopped Femara and Lupron in mid. Oct 2011.

Sharp pains in ovaries and hot flashes stop in Jan 2012.   

Moisture returns (sorry) and other sexual side effects cease shortly after, along with the return of pimples and hormones. Skin is softer. Lost a bit of weight.

All hot flashes gone by Feb. 2012.

Start feeling super PMS-like symptoms in mid-late March 2012.

Exhaustion and crabbiness in early -mid April.

Sensitivity to smells and mild nausea in mid-April. Decide to take a home pregancy test and discover I am pregnant on April 20. Get a blood test at onco and confirms that I am very pregnant.

 Now, on April 22, I finally get to worry about something other than cancer for awhile. I'm 35 and still haven't had a period in almost five years.

 So, I post this because unitl literally a few days ago my hope of  having children was up in the air. Just hoped and hoped and hoped everything would be ok and now I hope my pregnancy works out. I hope this story gives someone else hope and a bit more of a fleshed out timeline. From my research, if the period is to return, it tends to come back within 6-8 months at the earliest and often within a year after stopping Lupron, though I think my ovaries kicked back in sooner. And, let me tell you that if you stop having hot flashes it is a good sign and you should start pre-natal vitamins before your period comes back (or start using protections anyway).
