Joke, even though this is not the joke forum
Hi all,
Back from SA, exhausted and furious about a number of stupid things, including a voicemail message from my radiology clinic saying they've willy-nilly changed tomorrow's appointment from 8:00 AM to noon even though I teach at noon on Fridays. They have now left for the day so I can't get back to them until early in the morning. I guess they believe it's up to me to figure out how not to get fired so they can continue to get their co-pays.
Anyway, here's a joke to, hopefully, cheer us all up. And it really IS just a joke, albeit a sort of dark one. This gesture is just for the irony of it all, so please bear with me.
A woman (triple negative, of course) goes through gruelling chemotherapy. She loses her hair; has her toenails fall out; sees her fingernails turn black, curl abnormally, and grow into the balls of her fingers; developes sores throughout her mouth and throat; gets thrush; has terminal nausea and diarreah; and ends up in the ER several times for chemo-related problems. No matter. Valiant and brave as women are supposed to be, she finishes chemo and is scheduled for surgery.
The day of her surgery, she goes to the hospital and is prepped for a mastectomy with full ALN dissection. Her surgeon visits with her and reassures her ("we'll try to avoid taking your heart"), and tells her that even if she's one of the rare cases who awaken during surgery, the pain will be minimal ("there are few nerve endings inside the breast, most of them felt only by females").
As she wakes up in recovery, a nurse comes to check on her.
"How are you doing, Mrs. Camelbutt?" the nurse asks.
"Fine, I think" Madame CuldeChameau responds. "How did things go?"
"Well," says the nurse brightly. "We have good news and we have bad."
"What's the good news," asks Mrs. Camelbutt in a weak voice, "and what's the bad?"
"Unfortunately, the surgeon removed the wrong breast," says the nurse. "However, the good news is that your HMO will pay for everything."
Let's all hope for a WONDERFUL weekend with NO SURGEONS OF ANY KIND!
Love,
Annie

Um, Annie, I guess maybe I'm wondering if this is really a joke, or if yet another medical mishap has befallen you.
Please let us know whether you were able to reschedule today's rad session. When will you get the results of the CT/PET from San Antonio?
Hugs...

Hi Otter,
It really IS a joke, and I'm still laughing about it although I may be the only one to find it funny. I was able to reschedule rads for this afternoon (thank heavens!), and will have the results of the scan on Monday, I believe. I hope for some good news for once.
Love to all,
Madame CamelButte

Anne, I was wondering with all the problems you have gone through if it was really happening to you. Good luck on the scan results on Monday.

Annie,
I laughed, because it was funny and because sometimes that's all you can do.
Hugs
Bobbie
