I am 18 months out from a DCIS dx. It was favorable dx, if there is such a thing. But, I still am VERY anxious about getting mammos, u/s, and MRI's.  I am due for a mammo next week. I  go from feeling confident ( good stats ) to feeling that it is just a matter of time. What do you all tell yourselves during times of tests??

I remind myself that the chances of another abnormal turning up are pretty low. I'm a very ordinary person and anyway I already had breast cancer.

Then I plan to go shopping afterward!

What do I do?  Eat like there's no tomorrow, shove the stress down deep inside, wear my cranky pants when that doesn't work, smile & hope for the best.  Then let out a huge sigh when it's over.

When I had the MRI this past summer, I got through it, then the results came & I was back to devastation. More tests, surgery, now tamoxifen, and I'm getting through it.  "It could be worse" is now my motto.  Other things can bug me, getting used to the way I am now is very hard at times, but the BC part - well, I whooped and said to everyone that I can live with a pre-cancerous condition because it could be worse

And then, like Rose, I go shopping.  (MAC has some very nice lip palattes out right now, and it's always time for a new bra) Laughing

For me it's not just tests, but just going to the doctor in general.  I don't even like taking my kids in for their routine physicals.  There is just something about the sights and smells of being in any doctors office.  I get so anxious I don't feel hungry before I go.  I usually eat after the appointment is over.

Good topic....My first post dx and treatment mammo is due on December 1st, and I'm a little nervous about it.....That's normal.....I try to remind myself that my chances of a recurrence is low...5%.....I had a lmpectomy and rads...No Tamoxifen......When it is over, and regardless of what the news is...I plan to go shopping for great fabrics...I'm a quilter.....And....I am scheduled to see my hair stylist the next day.  Perfect.

And....I also eat everything in sight....Not a good thing...

Why, when we're told our chance for recurrence is only one in ten, do we automatically think the worst???  Well, maybe it's because each of us here has been that "one in eight" who got bc......

It's natural to worry, but I think the best suggestion is MotC's -- Ativan!  Followed afterwards by shopping, of course!

    Good luck to all,  Linda
