laser hair removal after tram...
so if you use the skin from the lower part of your abs/near pubic bone..... does the hair grow out of your boob... if so --does laser hair removal take care of it???

lynnie...I don't know the answer to your question because I didn't have that procedure, but if no one answers it with any certainty, abbadoodles (Tina) on this board asked the other day about waxing near where the skin around the pubis is pulled up to join your abdominal area. Based on that question, I should think that you won't get hair on the skin that is used on the reconstructed breast, but you'll get the pubic hair growing alot further up than it normally does.
As for laser, it doesn't completely remove every single hair, but does get most of it. For the rest, wax works perfectly.

Here is the voice of experience. I had peach fuzz and a few errant hairs on my belly, below my belly button, and they are now on my flap boob. I am considering laser in the future but for now I just clip or tweeze the obvious hairs.
And, yes, the pubic hair has been pulled up with the skin under the abd. incision. Although I am very fair, I am a hairy canary! If you don't have lots of hair there now, you won't after the surgery. If they do take skin, move skin with hair, it will grow the same way it always has.!!!
The things you don't think about.
Well, I'm still glad all was done and am just coping with the minor irritation of the hairs.

Hi Lynnie:
I had a flap from my C section scar used to patch my foob where the skin broke (prev. rads)
Yup, it's growing a nice curly hair out of my foob........when i asked my PS (laughing) about not wanting chest hair, he said they just use electrolysis in their own office. One stop shopping!
you may want to ask your PS about it, they might offer it in their own place or know where to refer you. It's a very quick zap and you are done. You do have to be healed up tho.
Good luck

The answer is "yes". I had a bunch of dark hairs that went almost up to my belly button. They are now on the outer side of my foob. They itch. So I shave it once a week. I never thought I would add "shave left breast" as part of my morning routine. Really. Life is funny that way. I asked to have it lasered off . They don't think insurance will cover it so I will pay to have it lasered off rather than go for a Brazillian wax job at the nail salon for the rest of my life.

Add me to the list of hairy boob. No one had mentioned this before my surgery so I was pretty surprised by it. Of course after I thought about it, it made sense that the hair would transfer with the tissue. I've been tweezing it but plan to have it lasered sometime in the future.

If you've had laser hair removal, what is the timeframe for getting this done? I'm about 7 weeks out from my DIEP, and I can't stand the hairs that are growing (currently shaving it). I want a longterm solution that doesn't involve shaving or waxing.
Does insurance cover this?
How soon after DIEP can I have laser hair removal?
I'm getting implants with stage 2. Will this have any impact on laser hair removal? I guess I should have asked my ps when I saw her yesterday, but I'm embarrassed about the hair.

Hi there, laser hair removal works depending on your hair color. The darker the hair the better your results. You have to have it done several times though, all about 6 weeks apart (3-6 times depending on how stubborn the hair is). Its is best to get it done before surgery but can still be done afterwards. My ps didnt mention anything about this to me. I had to ask and then he told me. It was unfortunate because I could only get two session in before my surgery. If I had known in advance I could have had more prior. In the end it all worked out and I am happy and hairless where it counts. Afterall, after chemo the worst scenerio is a hairy chest and bald head!
ps. Rachel, you could probably sqeeze in 2 sessions before your surgery (thats about the time frame I was working with). insurance did not cover mine but the PS gave me a discount.

I had a few wild hairs grow out of the foob in the first few months. I just plucked them. Now it is just a fine very light fuzz, but nothing that I can really notice unless I'm in direct sun (in my bathroom of course). I thought for a while there I would have to style the new girl's hair, lol
-
I didnt mention that while I was getting the laser I decided to boost my self esteem a bit by having my ps also work on another problem area. I felt I deserved it! My PS extended the discount for everything. Its been well over a year now and the results have been great.

I wish I had done this prior to surgery! These are the things you don't think about, ya know.
My ps is about a 2-hr drive for me. Should I call her and mention the issue or try to find someone locally to do it? I hate to pay for yet another consult, which the insurance probably won't cover.
My hair is def. dark, and I knew I would have this problem before my DIEP. When I mentioned to my ps that I was worried about this, she said, "You can have it lasered off later."
-
If insurance doesnt cover laser for you it might be easier to stay local. Its a very quick proceedure. It really doesnt hurt much and its actually good to have dark hair. At most places the consults are free. the nice thing about laser removal is that it is oppoiste than waxing. you dont have to grow the hair out, you actually shave it a day or two before you get the laser. It doesnt grow back much after that first zap. So between the six weeks until your next session you never get too hairy agian. If you do you can shave it anyway. I still think its funny that my PS does laser removal in his office and did not give me the information before my reconstruction! It would have helped both of us out!

2 1/2 weeks out from my diep and I could put my hair into a pony tail just about. See PS Friday and ask about it.
