Paracentysis-yes or no?

For those who may not yet know, my Mom is Stage IV, mets to the liver and we've been at home for the past two weeks under hospice care.  She's had ascitis for quite some time now.  She had developed it originally back in Feb, but subsided with her last chemo drug.  Back then we had considered paracentysis to drain some of the fluid, but her oncologist did not recommend it and he also did not recommend it when we left the hospital for hospice care.  My aunt is a nurse, who does this procedure and is HIGHLY recommending we have it done for my Mom.  My Mom has not gotten out of bed in almost two weeks and before that only to use the bathroom the week we were in the hospital.  To have this procedure done, we will have to get her out of bed, transport her to the hospital and then back again.  She feels it will be quite difficult and even after having it done the fluid still returns.  We simply can't make a decision as to whether or not to do it.  If we had done it in the past, we'd have a better idea as to whether or not we should do it at this stage of her life.  Does anyone have any advise on this procedure or have had a loved one experience it?  Any help would greatly be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Lisa & Carmelita (Mom)

    Lisa,

I don't know the answer to this question, but I'm going to copy and paste your post over on the "RECURRENCE AND METASTATIC DISEASE" section of the boards. I think some of the ladies there may have the information you need.

Here is the link to the thread:

Sometimes I can't get links to other posts here to work correctly, so if this one doesn't work the post is entitled "PARACENTESIS" (ooops--just realized I misspelled it!)
