lump appeared during menstrual cycle

Hi all. Found a rather large lump one morning when I woke up feeling like it was propping me up in bed on it's own. My menstrual cycle has been crazy for about a year and this one in particular was long overdue and has been lasting forever with chronic spotting, bright red. This particular month was stressful and I was gulping coffee to the tune of six or seven cups a day. I'm 48 and have a mother that died of BC at age 42. I'm not a big advocate of mammograms and I lean toward more nutritional, holistic methods of health care. The lump has gone down somewhat, but it is oval, smooth and moves pretty freely with manual manipulation. My question is this. Since I am totally uninsured, should I at least wait until the spotting has stopped prior to seeking some form of screening? I've heard that's the recommendation by screeners anyway. Also wondering if there are any post on caffeine intake and relationship to fibroids, cysts etc. Is there less of a chance of this lump being BC since it appeared so suddenly, was large and now has subsided somewhat? Thanks for anyone with some feedback.

    Hi There,

Well 80% of all lumps are usually B9 - and as your did appear during menstural cycle and has subsided some  -thats a great sign - HOWEVER - you do have a family history of BC -  so I say see your DR. at least for nothing less than a clinical breast exam -  have you ever had a mamo?

A healthy life stly is wonderful - but we must also encorporate that with clinical testing/expertese if the need arises.

You know there are major discrepencies about caffine - I for one have always been a major Coffee- Aholic -  I still am (I most likely always will be - I gave up my breast I am not giving up

coffee too)  Please see you DR. he/she will decide if when you should have mamo (cycle or not) I am also 48 - because of BC, treatments, meds, surgeries etc, I am never regular (for past 2 years) MRI's are usually recommended 7 days post menstural cycle  -but when you are not regular or chronically spotting - it is difficult to acheive that.

    GOOD LUCK
