Still need feedback; do you get tested for CA 15-3 or CEA?

Hi,

I posted something on this the other evening, and I haven't heard from many people, and would love to.  Does your onc. test you for these and, if so, are they always the same or do they change much?

My details are posted in the first posting on the same subject.

Thanks,

Viczen

I get Ca27-29 which my onc said takes the place of ca 15-3.

My markers have always been low. Even when I had a known tumor/positive node.

I don't think they work for me.

I also get Ca 27-29, a score of 38 and below is considered good.  The highest I ever got was 46 during chemo, didn't drop down until after chemo when it went to 13.  I was stage IV from the beginning with a bone met, diagnosed last month with brain mets yet the CA 27-29 was still only 13.5.  Jury is still out as to whether or not they are accurate for me, bone met is healing and the brain mets were a fluke finding, caught extremely early while still asymptomatic.

These markers are not terribly accurate, don't work for everyone and really can't be compared from one person to another.  I believe what they look for is what is normal for you as an individual, some fluctuation is not unusual but an overall upward trend over time or a sharp jump might be cause for concern.

Mine does CA27.29, CEA and CA125. None of them have varied very much.

I never had any of these tests when still in treatment. My first onc moved away shortly after I finished chemo and it is the new one that likes to test these.
