Carol - thanks so much for the photo collage - it sure adds another dimension to our comraderie seeing all those pictures at once. Even my dh got a little choked up.

D1 - loved the graveyard idea! I've been looking to add to the few halloween dec's I already have...

Don't have time for anymore shout outs - got to finish packing for the Komen Race/Spa weekend/female family reunion, then I'm off to the airport to pick up one of my sister-in-laws...

    Have a great weekend everyone!!

Just taking a break from the laundry to check in and see what's up with the Jewels. My port is history! Had it taken out Monday under twilight sedation. Dd went with dh and me-she has her learner's permit and drove us home after the procedure. I could have driven, though. Easy as pie, Carol-no worries! We did a little shopping on the way home (just a quick trip into Kohl's and Office Max).

I'm glad the work week is over... two more weeks of doing the work of two teachers-our nurse is set to start Nov. 3. I'll still be doing a lot of the planning after she starts, mentoring the new teacher, etc. But it will be a lot easier than planning for a sub that doesn't have a clue about what we teach. (Julie, I'm doing the sub plans because I'm the lead teacher and I'm responsible for getting all the seniors ready for clinicals).

Kimberly- thinking of you and your ds. I'm encouraged to hear that her cancer was found so early. WTG getting her to get that MRI!     I'll be 47 next month-been in menopause since age 44. Don't think Auntie Flo will be back to visit here... I just recently started having hot flashes. They're pretty mild and short-lasting, but WOW!    You asked about the funding for my student conferences. We have to raise that money-no support from the school system for the kids. The last conference was on a Saturday and the kids paid a registration fee to attend.

Carol- we talked for an hour?! It didn't seem that long-that's how it goes when you're talking to a friend. Thanks for calling! (And WOO HOO on losing your yoga cherry!)    Sounds like Zach's Sylvan visit went well. Hope he got his work schedule worked out. Ds went to weekends only after a month of juggling work and school. It has made things a lot better for him. He has time to keep up with his school work, work on college admissions stuff, and enjoy his senior year.

D1- so college girl has a budding romance... what memories that brings back! Glad to hear she's getting awesome grades this year. The freshman year is tough-sounds like she's on track to make the grades she wants. Where does she plan to study abroad?     Funny, our kids had their homecoming dance last Saturday-a week after homecoming. In my day (boy, that phrase makes me feel old), we had homecoming dance after the ballgame.    I watched the debates this week, too. No big moments on this one, IMO. I was entertained a couple of times, but mostly just bored....

Sherry- love those curls, girlfriend! My hair isn't so curly, but it does have a bit of wave. I had a trim this week to shape it up a bit (my first real trim!).     LOL at popping an extra water pill-hope you got some sleep... How's the job situation?

CHJ- you look great-love the scenery, too. The Shenandoah Valley is beautiful. Your hairstyle looks familiar... like lookin' in the mirror!     I'm still undecided on the genetic testing also... postponed the decision until my next f/u appt in Dec.    Have fun tomorrow at your Race for the Cure! Hope you're not too bombarded by PINK! (LOL at the pink vacuum-WTF?) There's a Pepto thread?? Gotta check that out...

Deb- WOW! That was a big event. I have heard of Corrigan and went to Amazon to check out her book. It sounds great (I ordered it). There's a cool video about her below the book info on the Amazon site-definitely peaked my interest in reading her book.    My neuropathy is minimal-occasional problems with the legs and feet, but don't need the Mirapex anymore (that was very effective for the restless legs syndrome, though)

Kathy- glad you had a good weekend away. So, the curls will go when I get a "real" haircut instead of a trim, eh?  Ah! I had forgotten about the nip surgery... the stitches are out. Now let's hope this nip is a keeper!

Carla- dang! I hate that your DH is still being such a... DH! (((HUGS)))     I got your PM. I have to reschedule ds' visit to WVU-had one for Monday, but got my port removed instead. I'll be in touch when I have a date.

Bobbie- hey, there! Nice to see you on this thread. We've "met" before on the brain cancer/breast cancer thread. Your dh had a brain cancer like my dh's, correct? How are the two of you doing?

Julie- how has your week been after your marathon outdoor activities last weekend? Hope you didn't overdo it with the yard work!

LJ- thanks for sharing your exercise routine. I haven't been doing weight training... really need to get started on that.

Therese- your weekend sounds FUN! Enjoy!

Sorry this turned into a novel... (is anyone still reading?) If you are, I need some suggestions for good books. I'm out of reading material.

Have a good weekend, all! Paula

    Happy Saturday Morning,

Enjoying a cup of coffee, and deciding on a game plan for the day.  Its cool outside but blue skies, so maybe nine holes of golf this afternoon.  Tonight is the ds' homecoming dance, no date ... going with some buddies.

Therese, you are probably walking as I type.  Your weekend with the ladies sounds fabo.  What a better way to spend your one year survivorship than a pampering at the Spa and a good steak dinner ... you go gal !!!

Glad you enjoyed the pics ... wish that I had one of you to include.  How bout sharing one from your weekend ???

Paula, Friday night and doing laundry ... your life sounds as exciting as mine.   Glad to hear the port removal was a no biggy.  I'll be chatting with a surgeon next week to schedule mine.  Is it very sore, and did they use dissolvable stitches?

D1, we enjoyed a great dinner out ... god knows I was in "rare" form by the time we ate last night.  Went with the crab melt which was awesome.

CHJ and LJ ... hope you make it to the walk.  That would be pretty cool if you two could have met up.

I too had the BRCA testing done.  My insurance did not squawk at all, as I have some family history with a Aunt and counsin on my mom's side.  My results we're negative.  My concern if the test had proven positive would be the increase risk of ovarian cancer.  I chatted with my Aunt's (whom have daughters) prior to my testing as the results could have effected them.

Interesting on the feet problems, I had custom orthodics made last year (my big medical problem prior to bc).  So they worked wonders up until this spring, which is also when menopause hit.  I definitely do a bit of a shuffle trying to walk after I have been seated or when getting out of bed in the morning.   I keep hoping that it will get better, been trying some Magnesium and Vit D3 supplements as well.  And the hot flashes ... thankfully they are usually just at night ... we've gotten used to having two fans going all night long.

Wow does the fun never end ... root canals and colonoscopies in the same sentence YIKES!

Carla, good for you on pampering yourself ... can't wait to hear about the disco dancing !!!

    Okay, got to go ...

    Carol

    HI Jewels Happy Saturday,

I made it to my walk today. I was kinda sad because my family was busy and I had to go by myself. Both of my sisters are having problems with thier knees and could not walk. So I did not take any pictures there. I did have a lot of fun just socializing and mostly walking. It was a 3 mile walk instead of 5. I did the 3 miles with ease. They gave me a metal and the black scarf. I have not been on in a week, because I was working at my job at kmart and then training for my work at home job as CSR. I passed all my training and will start that job soon. I'm off for the next 4 days so I will be on talking soon. I hope everyone's walk went great.

     Take care, Sherry

Hope everyone has a sunny Saturday

Today was sunny here the trees are so pretty with the fall colors.

Oh the dance was fun. There were about 4 couples that came dressed in disco attire. They really played the part also. They were very entertaining the on man had platform shoes on that had fishes in the heels.

    Take care Carla

Was sitting here this evening watching some ladies golf on the boob tube and there was a commercial of sorts, for BC.org.  This definitely caught my attention.,

For those who might have On Demand on their cable network ... there are programs On Demand that Breastcancer.org is a part of.  From the On Demand menu you go to Life and Home, and from there to Pink Ribbon.  It was kinda cool to see the Founder of BC.org Dr. Marisa Weiss, and hear what she had to say about the website.  Okay, not what we all might want to watch on a Sat night, but I thought it was worthy of passing the info along.

    While I'm here ...

Sherry, the scarf you received is too cool.  Good for you to go ahead and participate in the walk even though you we're flying solo.  Sometimes thats the best way to meet and chat with people.  Thanks for sharing the pics!

Carla, fish in the heels ??????  Too funny !!!!!

Hi Jewels -- hope you all are having a nice weekend so far! It's been a "working" weekend at my house. The dh and I both have teacher evaluations to write and have been busy working on them since last night. I finished mine today, so next I'll be working on curriculum for some of my classes -- fun, fun!!

I had a nice surprise in my mailbox from my SP on Thursday -- a cool candle holder with little ghost candles. LOVE IT -- thanks, SP!!!

Hoping to have some time tomorrow to catch up with you all!!

    Take care, girls -

    Good Sunday Morning Jewels,

The site is really slow to respond this morning.

    This week just flew by!!!!

We had a big wine dinner last night at our house…Cabernets from Oakville specifically the To Kelon Vineyard. We had 12 people total, 9 bottles to taste, and lots of Italian food made from recipes out of a cookbook I bought touted as the bible for authentic Italian cuisine.  Fabulous.

Today, we’re off to Fairplay, a wine region in El Dorado County, to pick up our wine shipment from the only wine club we still belong to, and to hang out with some friends for the day.  It is gorgeous weather here, so a day outside sounds just perfect.

My twinsis got the approval to switch to the Sutter network, so she’ll be referred by her new primary care doc, who she sees this coming Tuesday, to my surgeon. Hopefully, she can get in to see the surgeon the first week in November.  I love Jewel Jewce, D1, it’s a keeper.

School is crazy busy, and I’m just feeling like I’m treading water trying to get my students to take their academics seriously enough to do the work and to study.
Sigh…I know I am not the only teacher experiencing this issue, but knowing that doesn’t make it any easier to swallow.

So, how are the Jewels doing?

Carol – I got the information you sent and tried to PM you back, but it wouldn’t load, so hopefully, I can get to the boards and send you a thank you that way.

I’ve read all the messages, but I’m just not able to do individual shout outs as I’ve got to get my butt in the shower and get going.

Know I’m thinking of you all staring yoga, walking for the cure, getting spa treatments, new nips, ports out, bragging on kids, dealing with dh issues, Femara woes, etc…

I’ll try to check in more regularly, this once a week thing is just too hard to keep up.

    SIS Kimberly

Race pics!  It was cold, it was crowded, but it was a blast.  That's me in the hat, and my buddy who helped get me through chemo.  The survivor pic is not great, and there were so many women, I'm not even in it (was waaaaay off to the right).  Anyway, at least the sun was out!

    Hi Ladies,

So the site still seems a little outta whack ... I find if you hit each prompt more than once it kicks ahead as it should.

Today has been prettty mellow, last evening was rather stressful, the ds whom had plans to meet with the buddies before the homecoming dance had issues, seems as if the buddies wrangled up dates, so lil' ol Zach was suddenly not included in their game plan.  God, I felt so sorry for him, he had worked all afternoon, immediately was texting away trying to find out what was going on with the buddies.  No response, no response, and then found out they had made other plans while he was at work for most of the day.  I could only encourage him to head up to the dance solo, he was totally bummed, finally about an half hour before dance time I hear him showering, thinking this is a good thing, next thing we know he is out at our dinner table asking the fil how to tie his tie!!!  I was thrillled.  Good for him I thought, he looked quite dapper (yep, what every mom would say), we had bought a new tie to go with the black on black look, and he had even gotten a haircut right after work.  Off he went, with directions to call home with a game plan after the dance.  Got the call at 11:30, asked to go bowling??? Okay, I said in a half comatose state, next thing I know its 12:30, and he is home safely guess the bowling fell through.  Sounds as if the eve went pretty good, he is harder then heck to get any details out of.

The dh and I hit another round of golf today, it was a whopping 50 degrees, but I still opted for shorts.  Hate to golf all bundled up!  Hit the store this morning, finally went through some cookbooks to actually make something other than the no-brainer ideas of the past ump-teen months.  Looking forward to a scallops w/proscuitto and spinach dish tonight.  The dh was impressed with the amount of fruit and vegi's in the fridge, my hope is to try something new a couple times a week.

CHJ, thanks for sharing the pics, hey you look pretty damn good in pink !!!

Kimberly, I got your PM ... let me know if I can be of any additional help.

I was telling Kent on our way to golf about your wine tasting at your place ... we both agreed that it sounded like it would be a fun time.  You two definitely have the ""hostess with the mostness" thing down well !!!

Julie, I appreciate the popping in even though life is full up, its still great to see from all of our SIS Jewel friends.

Back to the galley, watching the pathetic Seahawks tonight, a lil MLB baseball and the final round of women's golf ... LIFE IS GOOD!

    Carol

Happy Sunday, Jewels!! Sorry I haven't had much time to post lately. Between school and running ds all over town every evening, things have been crazy busy!

Ds tried out for the lead part in his school's Christmas production last week, but was disappointed to find out they gave all the major parts to 8th graders. Dh and I were a little irked that they got the hopes up of the 7th graders by letting them even try out for the lead roles if there was no intent to give any parts to them. Ds was pretty upset and is convinced that those who got parts don't have the "talent" to do very well in them. Guess that remains to be seen! We told him to just make sure that his two lines as "Vendor #2" are the best damn lines in the whole play - ha ha ha!

Okay - so what's been up with the Jewels this week??

CHJ and Sherry - great pics! Congrats on completing your walks. Sorry you were on your own, Sherry - good for you for walking it solo!

Kimberly - good for you pushing the MRI for your sis! That's great that they caught it so early. Sounds like you've been busy being the hostess with the mostess!!! I don't know how you do it all and manage to keep your sanity.

Deb - your walk sounds amazing! Glad you were able to take part in it.

Kathy - How're the nips doing? My ps does the skin graft, but doesn't typically do any tattooing after. We'll see how it goes!

Carla - I'm so sorry to read that your dh is still being a DH. I hope you are finding the support you need to take the steps necessary to take care of yourself and your girls. Glad you had fun at the dance!

Carol - I agree - I don't like this time of year when we have to put all the toys away - it makes me sad. BUT, I do enjoy the "holiday" part of winter, so I'm looking forward to that this year. You started Yoga?? I'm hoping to find some time to start working out again - I had really hoped to work it in this weekend, but that didn't happen! Ds's Tae Kwon Do lessons just moved into a new building and there's a local gym in the other part of the building. I may stop in this week and get some info about joining.

How's Zach doing with the Sylvan tutoring? Sounds like he has the right attitude about it, so that's good! Oh, bummer about the dance - I'm glad he decided to go ahead and go anyway.

D1 - you sound just like my mom when I was in college! It took me a while to figure things out, but I eventually did. And I was one to quickly call mom when my checkbook got low too - she didn't bite on those either!

Paula - I remember now that you've been waiting for another teacher to start - I sure hope your load lightens up for you soon! Let me know if you find any good books - the last one we read for book club was TERRIBLE!!! Only one of the 10 of us in the club liked it - and she's the one who picked it! It did make for an interesting discussion, though, this last Wednesday night. I actually felt pretty good this week after all of the work we did - a little tired, but that seems to be the "norm" for me.

Okay, girls - it's getting late and I've been working on this off and on now for a couple hours - I keep getting pulled off task! Better get it posted and get ready to do my Sunday night chores getting ready for school tomorrow. Sorry if I missed anyone - out of time.

    {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to all!

    Julie

Oh - btw - nothing new on the house front! We have a couple people scheduled to come out for some repairs, but still haven't signed with a new realtor or anything. My step-monster (oops! Did I really type that?) hasn't even contacted us since the email she sent a couple weeks ago telling us she probably couldn't represent us the way she likes to, blah, blah, blah..... I'll probably see her next weekend at my brother's "fall gathering" - that could get interesting!!

Whew!  I'm running around, trying to accumulate all of the requested items from my friends in the Bahamas.  It's exhausting!  (Maybe I should have started last week...)  I have a few more things on my list to buy, then on to things like getting my specs adjusted and my nails done.  Oh yeah, I have to pack, too.  I hope I have room for my clothes after I include all this stuff they need on the island (maybe I shouldn't be so selfish about wanting to be cute...).

Therese, our graveyard is really cool.  Fifteen years ago I bought a sheet of plywood and borrowed a jigsaw to make some gravestones.  Then I painted them all gray (I can't remember the type of paint I bought, but it holds up well to rain), and then used black paint to inscribe them with some "names."  The "dead" include Yuri Goner, Anita Coffen, C.U. Laytor, Helen Gaun, Seth M. Free, and I.M. Cursed.  There are a couple of others, but I can't remember them right now.  Then I nailed the plywood to some yard stakes.  Every year I have to renail the markers to the stakes, but other than that, they've held up well.  The whole neighborhood looks forward to our graveyard.  I also hang some bats from the trees overhead to add to the scene.  It's fun.

Hope your Komen race went well.

Paula, can't wait for you to get your help at school.  You work too hard, girl!  My homecoming was more like yours.   Dd had a good time, though, so I guess it's all good.  Latest word from college girl is that she lost her keys, to which she'd attached a thing that held her id, driver's license, bank card, a few bucks, etc.  She's now scrambling to replace everything/stop her bank card.  Man, life's a bitch, isn't it?

I just bought the latest Alice Sebold book for my trip (have to use my new bookmark and light from my SP!).  I read "The Lovely Bones" and really liked it, so I'm hoping for more of the same.

Oh yeah, Carol, you had the crab!  I'm hoping for some crawfish (most people call them lobster) and shrimp while on Eleuthera.  I'm in charge of dinner one night and I'm taking the makings for a chicken curry dish.  I'm hoping they don't confiscate my spices at customs.  If they do, I'll just be grilling chicken and hoping for lots of Kalik (the local brew).  One of my sisters is promising some seafood, so hopefully it'll be something I'm craving...

Sherry, the medal is good, but the hair is GREAT.  I'm glad you did the walk-no one can take that experience away from you.  Hang in with the job training.  You'll be awesome.

Carla-a MAN with fish in his platforms!!!!  You guys are crazy in WV!!!

BC.org has some advertising, Carol?  I've never seen any.  How cool is that?!

So, SIS Kimberly, what is the bible of Italian cooking?  I like to prepare Italian (particularly pasta dishes).

What's the twinsis going to do, Kimberly?  Glad she's headed to Sutter.  Those folks seem to have done good by you.  Is Kathleen going the lump or mast route?  I know with your family history, it must weigh in her decision.  All our Jewce is headed her way!

CHJ, great pix!  I see you're in pink!  Sounds like a real crowd at your event.

Carol,  sounds like ds had a typical homecoming experience.  I'm glad he rose above the shit high school kids pile on each other and had a good time anyway.  This will be one of the stories he tells his own kids someday (God knows my girls are tired of mine-and particularly those of the dh!)

Oh, yeah, scallops and prosciutto, sounds good to me.  What cookbook is that?  Are there pictures?  I need a picture so I know what my food is supposed to look like when I'm done mangling it.

The Seahawks and the Vikings suck.

Julie, good to hear some news from you.  I'm sorry the house thing is more difficult than you expected.  (LOL at the "step-monster.").  It's such a sucky time to be in the market.  I wish all good things for you guys.    Oh, and I'll be pulling for "Vendor #2"!  Break a leg!  (I had more of those parts than I can count!-And I was still an honor Thespian, so tell ds to take heart.)

Hmmm.  Dd is trying to tell me about talent night at her school.  I want to pay attention to her.  I'm suddenly realizing that she'll be gone in 9 months...  (Or at least I hope so!)

    Later, Jewels.

D1 Your yard sound really funny.

Kimberly How is your twin sis doing ?

I don't know if I told this story or not. Don't believe I have..

About 1 month ago I went to get a pedi.I was talking to manicurist about my Breast Cancer and how I found my own lump. She stood up and said. I have lump n my breast. Will you fill it and see. I ask her if she had a family doc. She said no had only been to doc once for a cold. I told her I would call around and find her a place to go. The next day i called her with an appointment. I saw her last week she thanked me and said she was fine.

We are dressing up for Halloween  at work. I was going to dress as Pipi Longstocking.or a hippie.

Paula My collage girls said they would meet with your son and answer any questions he may have. Let me know when you plan to come. We can all meet,

Well gotta get off here and give thim puter back to cg.

Hi Jewels, sitting here this eve, full tummy's and vegetating in front of Two and a Half Men.  Just watched last nights DTWS's.  I was history last night at 7:30.  Dealt with the ds and kid problems on Sunday night, ended up still awake past 1:00am.  Hard to do with a 5:00am wakeup.

Anyway, hit the Yoga last night and gym tonight.  If anything thing else, I do feel good about being active once again.   Work is just that, and I try my darndest to put my best foot forward and have a postive spirit thoughout the work day.

So just to put my two cents worth in ...

Julie, listening to your post, running around your ds, I thought to myself how nice it actually is to now have my ds driving himself to some of his actiivities (work, skate etc).

So hopefully your ds doesn't get discouraged for future auditions.  Too cool that he is so well rounded to be playing football and interested in theater as well.

So my ds went to day two at Sylvan tonight, headed to his dad's afterwards.  Had a brain melt down, was resting and getting ready for dinner when I spoke to him tonight.  After round one, he was rather hyped this past weekend as he was reading a novel and actually kinda getting into it.  A first ... For the price of his sessions, I really hope they help him out !!!

D1, so your next adventure is just a few short days away.  The graveyard is in place, are we going to be gone for Halloween?

Yep, its been a seafood frenzy around here.  The scallop recipe was actually from a Rachel Ray cookbook (no pic), but pretty darn good although it took longer than a ½ hour.  Tonight it was seared ahi tuna.  Looks like I should cook again tomorrow night as I filled the "reefer" with mass fresh food this past weekend.  Didn't think about the dh being out of town from Thurs - Sun this week.  Looks like I will be cooking every fresh vegi we have tomorrow.  I'm pretty bad about fixin' meals around the house when he is gone, would rather catch a bite out.  I have some gf's that I should try to hook up with, some I havn't shot the sh*t with in some time.  Also the gal that I talked about some time ago who is going through CMF chemo is getting close to month 6, I ran into her at the grocery store, and we talked about getting together.

Oh my, it must be in the air, the ds lost his wallet Friday night at the homecoming game.  Catch this, it was found by a pretty good friend I had in high school.   The dh took the message Friday night at 11:00pm (I was more than history, imagine that after the vino I was sipping).  I read the note Sat morning from the dh, of who had the wallet, my god, I hung out with this guy as part of our group of friends in hs.  I ended up going to his home Sat afternoon, I'd have to say he looks like he's done well for himself atleast monetarily.  It was fun to bs about some mutual friends and some of the old times we spent together.   It had been 25 years since we last saw each other.   My bc came up, and my goodness  he had open heart surgery 3 years ago.   My god, there's got to be something in the Poulsbo water !!!

Hey, I'm totally digging the yoga, Monday we worked the abs ... a killer for me.  I come home totally stoked !!!   I don't think I've ever been in any exercise class that I totally looked forward to going to.  I must say, I'm looking forward to tomorrow night.

So do you have Comcast cable ... or is that a west coast cable thing???  That's where the BC.org programming is.

Carla, if nothing else comes of our own BC adventures, being able to educate and help others is worth its weight in gold.   Good for you to do what you could to help out a fellow sister friend, and thank goodness she had good news.

Okay, not going to keep my eyes open for the end of DWTS, hitting the Tivo and bed soon after ...

A pleasant night to you all, Carol

Hi girls -- just a quick check-in tonight! Glad to see it's been slow here the last couple days - not too much to read up on! Guess that's good news. Laughing

D1 - when do you leave for your trip? Sounds like you're busy getting packed! How long will you be gone? I'm so lame - I didn't even get out my Halloween decs this year - just too pooped when I get home from working all day to deal with it and haven't had any time on the weekends. Oh well -- I'm looking forward to decorating for Christmas though!

Carol - you have me inspired to start doing some exercise! I actually worked out last night for the first time since my last surgery. I did look into some class options, but there just isn't much around here, which disappoints me. Being a fellow DWTS fan (could Cloris PLEASE be voted off??!!!!), I even looked into some adult dancing lessons, but there are only two studios by us and it didn't look like either of them had adult classes. Oh well -- guess it's me and my treadmill in the meantime. I had hoped to work out again tonight, but haven't had the time yet and it's almost nighty-night time. Night meeting tomorrow, so it won't be until Friday that I'll have time again.

Sounds promising for Zach! Hope he keeps the positive attitude. My ds came home with his first report card of the year and did surprisingly well!! His lowest grade was an 89% and, if you remember, he has not allowed me to help him with or check ANY of his homework so far this year. I was VERY pleased that his math grade was a 92%!! (we ended last year with a C in math!)

Carla - that's so sweet of you to take such interest in your manicurist. Glad it turned out okay.

Well, the latest with the house issue is that dh and I had a "heart-to-heart" last night about the importance of ds's education and we're now leaning toward moving closer to MY school instead of dh's. My district is much better, educationally, and we're not facing quite the deficit that dh's district is. We moved closer to his school when ds was entering kindergarten because of dh's work schedule and we NEVER saw each other. Luckily, we got ds into the private Catholic grade school that is wonderful. We're, of course, worried how ds will react because he'll be leaving friends and what he's known for the last seven years. We'll have to see how it all plays out, but that's the new "twist" in the saga.

Better get ready for bed -- night all!

    Julie

Hi!  I'm still here.  I have been reading when I can, but so little time that I haven't been able to post.  I'm at work now and it's a slow day so thought I'd just write something quickly.  No time to give individual shout outs.  Thanks to my SP (Carol!) for the latest gift... some OPI polishes that I love!  And dd and ds were so excited to get something in the mail, and doubly as excited that it was from "mommy's friend"  who lives "far, far away"... makes you sound pretty exotic, huh?!?

Been busy with the 2 jobs.. both going well.  Kids are finishing up swim lessons Saturday.  We take a break over the hoildays and all our birthdays occur from now to January, too.  ds will be 3 on Sunday, lots of time spent on planning and readying for that.  He is so excited about his party.  dd was picked out of all the kindergarteners in her school (over 200) as a drawing contest winner about fire prevention; only one picture was chosen per grade.  Her picture goes on to the county level, then the state.  Needless to say, I'm busting out with pride for her.  I've yet to see the actual drawing, but I hear it's pretty good.  dh and I are hoping for an evening out together next month... we've been ships passing the past few weeks.

2 new cancer dx... my friend's mom(breast), and another friend's sister (ovarian).  At least I feel like I've been there to support my friends and give out some information.  The least I can do.

Can't end on a bad note... we secured a new beach house for next summer in NC.  Had to go a bit cheaper since we had to change the week we'll be there and it's now considered "peak season" (so more expensive).  Just glad we found a house and can look ahead to that vacation.

Gotta run.  Thinking of you all.

    Hey Jewels,

I see there's not much happening ... we'll chalk that up to being a good thing.

I thought I would be flying solo tonight, but the dh decided to leave in the morning and return Monday on a business/watch the dd play soccer trip to CA. I was planning on eating out, now I figure we should eat up some of the food sitting in the fridge, not half as much fun IMO !!!

Went for my annual "giddy up ... hop in the stirrups" physical today. It was just over a year ago since the last, and at that appt, the doc was the one who felt the thickening of my breast. At today's appt we shared a lot of laughs (she is a crack up ... and no I did not use a sparkle washcloth), discussed hormones or lack there of, vit supplements, and her candid opinion on intimacy, (again ... or lack there of !!!). Okay TMI, but those exams are not too pleasant when the ol' body parts are out of practice !!! I told the dh when I got home that he would like her recommendation in that department, "use it or lose it" ... atleast he is still chuckling when I mentioned it.

Tomorrow morning I'm going back in after fasting for a cholesteral check, and some kind of liver enzyme test (heck I don't even know what that one is).

Also saw the Dermie doc ... just a follow up on another healing scar ... all looks good, well as good as it can get when it's a scar.

Julie, so your getting some inspiration from me, and I've gotten it from D1 and Kimberly. So the exercise talk is a good one ... personally I think its cool we're talking about exercise and not nausea, headaches, my GI distress, etc., of the past !!!

OMG ... your ds is doing great with his schoolwork. Hopefully he will be receptive to a possible move in the near future.

You know that Cloris has got to be getting the older generations vote ... my fil really gets a kick out of her. The one thing I like about the show is that its something that our college girl likes to watch, we like it, and her granddad likes it. There's not too many programs, other than sports, that we can say that to, with a age gap of 60+ years.

Kathy, glad your kids got a kick out of getting a little something.

I'll take your reservations for next summer as a reminder to get ours in for next year. We usually book our condo for our watersport outing to the eastern half of the state when we leave from that years vacation. Well we missed this year, so I hadn't even thought about reserving our place for next year. I'll be on the horn tomorrow trying to set something up.

From our experience, you will be a bundle of info to your friends that may need some input. Sorry to hear of the not so great news.

Too cool, on another proud mom moment ... doesn't get much better than that !!!

Off to the galley ... hope life is good for you all in one way or another !!!

    Carol

Oh my gosh, you guys, I'm just frantic getting ready to leave!  The folks who live on this out-island don't have access to many of the luxuries we enjoy in the States and my sister gave me a shopping list to make their lives easier.  So the beginning of the week was filled with shopping and getting my own stuff ready to go.  Then my sister was rear-ended, totaling her car, (she has some whiplash and neck issues), so she couldn't get out to buy the stuff on her list.  So she sent it to me.  Now I'm wondering where I'm going to pack my clothes!

On top of all this, I've been calling my med team this week to make sure everything is set for my rad onc checkup the day after I return and come to find out, they needed me to have my MRI BEFORE I went in for that appointment, so they can talk about the pictures with me when I go.  So, I had to rush in at 5:45AM for my MRI yesterday.  I was yanking on my big girl panties BIG TIME, Carol, as they could not get the IV in for the contrast.  My hand is all black and blue and swollen today.  It even hurts a little to type (maybe I should pour me a drink to alleviate that pain...).  I was so stressed out by the experience that I gave myself diarrhea (who said it's not mind over matter??).  That was fun having me race off to the bathroom just as they were going to put me in the MRI machine.  (This bc stuff is still a laugh a minute!)  I won't know what they saw on the MRI till I get home.

I did finish up p/t for my rotator cuff this week.  I'm not sure I'm really ready to be sprung, but I have a list of exercises and my therapist gave me her email so I can check in with her in six weeks for the next set she wants me to do.  She said that if in 8-10 weeks I'm still having the pain that I should get a new script from one of my docs and start another round of p/t.  I'm kinda hoping that the exercises and the massage therapy (if my onc would ever call me back to give me a script for that!), will take care of it.  Massages sound much better to me than p/t.

Are you guys tired of reading about me?  Let's see what you all are up to.

Carol, thanks for the ringy dingy.  I'm sorry I missed you.  You're always a mood brightener.  It sounds like the ds losing his wallet was a "found" opportunity for you!  How cool to reconnect with an old friend!  (And how great that the wallet was found right away.)

I leave for my trip in the morning, Julie.  I return on November 2.  It will take us all day to get to the island tomorrow.  Then we get up on Sunday and do our grocery shopping and drive about 4 hours to the other end of the island to the house we've rented.  Luckily, the two libraries we're working in this time are only about 45 minutes apart, so our house is kinda in the middle.  That way we won't have to move during the week.  When we're done working next Friday, we're going to drive back up the island about 3 hours and visit our old family friends, who live there.  Then on Saturday, we're going to drive the rest of the way toward the airport (in fact, about a half hour past it) and spend the day on a cay there.  We'll take a water taxi to get to the cay.  This is our day to kick back.  Then early on Sunday, we start the process of returning to our homes, which will take the entire day.  I think I get in to the DC area at 8pm.  I'm really looking forward to this (even though my sister sent the work schedule and we start at 8am every day, but should get out at 5pm-plenty early enough to get in to trouble!).

It's a good thing you and your dh ironed out the school situation BEFORE you moved!  It sounds like your ds is doing well this year and I can completely understand that you would want to get him in an academic environment that would continue to encourage him.  Oh, and don't worry about the decorations-we don't have a pumpkin, yet! (And now it's not my problem!)

Good to hear from you KathyL!  How cool that the dd's picture was chosen.  I remember my own college girl was honored in the same fashion many, many years ago.  I never did see that picture, but people told me they saw it in the Ed building, and then in a local mall when they did the display there.  I hope you're a better mother than I and get a chance to oogle her talent.  Happy 3rd b-day to the ds!  Ages 3 and 8 were my favorite years.  Have a great partay!

Don't you hate those tests that require fasting, Carol?  I can go without food on any given day, but if you tell me that I CAN'T eat, then I'm starving!  Hope it all went well (I don't know what half those tests are for, either, so don't feel bad).  Keep up the exercise (I'm jealous of the yoga-looks like that waits till after the first of the year for me), eating fish, and drinking wine excessively!  (Oops, that last one is me, I think.)

Okay, I'm off to the Caribbean!  Cross your fingers that there are no hurricanes.  I'll pop in if I can find a computer with internet access.

    Shine on you crazy Jewels!

Wanted to get on to wish D1 a wonderful trip!  Sorry to hear about your sister's accident.  Hope she's doing okay.

Had my mammo today and all is good.  I see the surgeon in a couple weeks and she wanted the mammo before she saw me.  I'm hoping all of these checkups start being six months out instead of every three.

We have our big back-to-back training walk this weekend -- 18 miles tomorrow and 15 on Sunday.  Unfortunately, we're having a bit of a heat wave, so I think it will be close to 90 by the end of tomorrow's walk.  Our city has a float in the Rose Parade and we're doing a late afternoon shift tomorrow.  You start laying the foundation of bark and stuff pretty early in the process and then do the actual flowers the week or two before the parade. I hope I can sit down and do my assignment, since I don't think I'll want to be standing after walking 18 miles.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Hello from the Great Northwest ... its been a beautiful day here in lil' ol Poulsbo.

So I had a day to do whatever I darn well felt like, and I accomplished close to nothing !  Spent the morning chatting with a couple of gal friends on the phone, sent off a few e-mail notes to some acquaintances from the 3 Day walk, a quick trip to the grocery store and post office and back home.

I decided to invite my old neighbor (whom moved down the street) over for a Filet Oscar tonight.  She has had a bummer of a week, had to put down her little wiener dog which has been her companion for 16 years.  This is the second little one to pass on this year, as the daughter to this dog was put down about 8 months ago.  I called her this afternoon, said that I was sitting here by myself tonight and asked if she would like to join me for dinner.   She has always enjoyed the attention that our two lil' wieners have to offer so hopefully they will be of some comfort tonight.  She is bringing the wine, and I'll be preparing the meal.  Sounds good to me !!!  She is 87 yrs old going on 60 !!!  She is very "up to snuff" with her politics (which are comparable to my views), loves sports ... I'll have the World Series game on, and is just all around good company.  Only slight problem is that she is very hard of hearing ... I'll be chatting with "my outside voice" for the eve !!!

Hey Cathy, so by now you have completed your 18 miler today.  I read your post last night, that is what inspired me to write a couple of quick notes to some of the gals that I walked with up here.  We had some of the best conversation and laughs about the dumbest things come about mile 14 or 15.  Hope that your feet are holding up well, mine are still peeling just a bit, I was pretty careful not to fiddle with them much during training.  That built up extra layer of skin proved to be very worthy during the actual event.  I know of a couple of ladies who are also walking the San Diego event that did the Seattle 3 Day, it should be awesome !!!

Glad to hear of another "good-to-go" mamo report.

D1, you are probably at destination Carribean by now.  We'll be looking forward to your report either from "paradise" ... oh, thats right your going to be working, not being a beach bum, or a synopsis when you get home.   Be safe my friend.

Julie, I caught Susan Love on one of the morning shows that I Tivo when she was talking about the Army of Women.  She was saying how important it is to get those of us who have battled the disease as well as others to participate in some of the statistical research.  I have signed on to the website, assuming that I may be involved in one of the studies.   I have enjoyed listening to her take on the subject from the get go !

Okay, off to the galley, need to crack a bit of Dungi crab to put on top of our filets ... geeez the dh is missing out on a good meal tonight !!!  Oh Kimberly, I don't know if you recall, but I sure do as you asked me one evening while at your house if I wanted a Capresse salad or "something else", I had to fess up and say "what the heck is a Capresse salad", you graciously told me, and I opted for that, since then that has been one of my new fav's to fix.  Hope Muriel enjoys it as much as I do.

Hoping that your hanging in there with work, exercise, your sis, and whatever else your up to.  You never seem to have a dull moment.  I fired off a card today to Kathleen, I kinda yakked about who this stranger was sending a card from Poulsb, hope it didn't end up sounding too goofy.

    All for now ... Carol

Well, so much for trying to check in during the week.

Lots of meetings this week, a lock down due to a natural gas leak, an Assembly schedule for Red Ribbon Week, a Tina Turner concert…OMG, she’s still fabulous at 68!!!, and a Halloween party last night.

OK, so I’ve been feeling kind of…not my upbeat happy self on the inside lately…on the outside, I’m putting on the face.  I think that being a year from dx, then my sis getting diagnosed a year later at the exact same time, feeling like an old lady at 47 with aches in my muscles and joints and not having the same flexibility I used to due to surgery, not feeling like the sharpest tack in the box anymore, and not just having much of a sex drive – vaginal dryness, not the same sensation… yada, yada, yada…has got me down.  I know it’s only been 6 months since chemo, but I hoped for feeling much better by now.

I also know that being positive really was the key to getting through the past year, but I’m feeling tired and worn down…I just want to be done with it all, and now I’m going to be going through it again with my twinsis. Don’t get me wrong,I absolutely want to be there to support her…I just don’t want her to have to go through this!!!!!

OK, thanks for letting me vent.

So, how are my Jewels doing?

CHJ – Love the pics from your bc event.

Carol – Wow, I’m so impressed…getting out the cookbook, and that recipe sounds fabulous.

I’m sorry the ds’ friends were acting like…well, teenagers…and that his maturity was wide awake and willing to get Zack to the festivities despite his friends’ lack of sensitivity.

I’ve not had occasion to hit any balls. 50 degree weather…you are dedicated, woman!. Maybe I’ll take myself out this afternoon. Greg’s driving to Redding to look at some potential energy sites, so after the laundry is done, I’m free to do with myself whatever I want.

Good for you getting to yoga class and the gym. I did my Wii Fit last week, and may I say, I was sore! Felt good. I didn’t get much more than that one night and walking this week.

    How’s the Sylvan tutoring going?

I’m with D1 on the good fortune of having an old friend find Zach’s wallet. The universe certainly does move in mysterious ways.

Glad your annual and the dermotologist’s appointments went well. LOL on the sparkle wash cloth…that was just a priceless story last year. Who was the originator of that laugh out loud moment?

Jules- Bummer about the house thing, but I think getting it out of family’s hands is best. Find someone impartial close to home who knows your area. And…good thing you and your dh had the heart to heart about where you want to eventually buy now before your house was sold from underneath you…so the waiting for the house to be put on the market was actually a good thing, eh?

Your ds is probably right about those getting the parts not being as talented, but in middle school, it’s about making sure everyone gets an experience, and next year, it will be his turn.  In high school, I’m pretty sure it’s more about the talent. I echo Carol’s comment about being such a well rounded kid with playing football and other sports and doing theater…and a top notch student to boot. You’re raising that boy, right!

Thanks for the link to the website by Dr. Susan Love. She’s the one whose website put me in touch with Dr. Dixie Mills and helped me with Adjuvent Online when I was looking for answers.

D1 – You’re too funny with worrying about being cute comment. LOL.  Your trip sounds like a blast. I know you’ll be working, but you’ll be with your sisters and on a tropical island eating great food it sounds like…I hope they don’t confiscate your spices either.  You can put all the supplies in a box and put that with the check on bags, that would assure room in the suitcase for your stuff.
Oh, heck, you’re already gone. I hate that I miss out on stuff not being able to check in more regularly.  Can’t wait to hear all about your trip.

Bummer about the MRI fiasco.  But, looking at the bright side, better you found out before you got back and went to the appt. not knowing you needed the MRI first.

Your graveyard sounds ‘spooky’ fun for the neighborhood kids.  Our house is going to be plain and non-descript. No pumpkin or anything. Just ring the doorbell and get a treat. HeeHee  I simplified my life when I moved from Folsom to Lincoln. I used to decorate for every holiday, but now just Christmas, and even that is nowhere near what I used to do.

Kath is seeing the surgeon on Nov. 3. I’m going with her. She’s leaning towards a bilateral, but wants to hear what the surgeon has to say first before making up her mind for sure.  Her boyfriends ex wife just had a mastectomy the week Kath was dx, and just found out that the AND scheduled won’t have to occur as the surgeon isn’t seeing a need for it based on the path and films. She’s thrilled.  No chemo or radiation needed, just straight to Tamox.  I’m hoping Kath doesn’t have to do anything more than the surgery, too, considering her tumor is 7mm, which is small.

I need to read more…hearing you, Paula, and Jules talking about what you’re reading makes me long for the time I had last year to just read.  I’m so tired when I get home that I don’t pick up a book, but just melt into my chair and zone in front of the TV.

My weight loss is stalled. I’m 147.5 as of this morning and bouncing between 148 and 147. I’ve lost almost 8 pounds and only have 6 weeks to lost the other 7.  No pressure, huh?

Carla – Wow, what a great story. It must make you feel so good to be able to help others based on your own experiences.

And, you get to meet Paula, too. How cool is that?  If Paula’s son decides to go to school there, he’ll have a Jewel close by for support if needed.

Kathy – I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s mom and sister. Like you said, you’ll be there for whatever support you can give to them, and that is a lot.

Oh, to have little ones running around again…they are so cute…exhausting, but just little reminders that life is a wonder.  So, your little whipper snappers are having Halloween fun, then birthdays, and the holidays…just one event after another.  Sounds like mom is going to be working overtime in the event dept, but somehow I get the impression that you love all that stuff.

You so deserve to be busting with pride over your little dd being an artist.

Excellent getting your vacation house taken care of early. Are you ready to go now? HeeHee

    How is the nip doing?

We need to be thinking about the Jewels get together, too. We need to get that booked or we’ll be meeting in Fresno at the Motel 6. HeeHee

Cathy – So, you had the annual squish. Glad all looks good. I agree about wanting these appointments to be spread out more. I see my oncologist in Dec. then my surgeon in February or March as that will be my 1 year from having a period anniversary. She wants to check my FHS and estrodial levels. Of course, I will actually see my surgeon Nov. 3 when I go in with my twinsis, so I can make my appt. while I’m there for my port removal and my Feb/March appt.

How fun that your town is having a float in the Rose Parade. The town I teach in, Roseville, is having a float this year as well.

Your walk is almost upon you…but you sound ready with all the training.

    OK, all caught up.

Take care gals, and I’ll try to catch up during the week if I can.

    SIS Kimberly

Wow, what happened to the weekend? Just got in from a shopping trip with dd. She was busting out of her jeans and her bras... got that all taken care of now. I got to shop for myself as well. I was selected by Coldwater Creek to participate in their customer experience program. They sent me two $50 gift cards and I had to make two separate visits to shop and complete their online survey rating the experience afterwards. Today was visit # 2. I got a lovely blouse the first time around. This time I caught the sales just right and came away with a jacket, a shell with lace trim, and some funky earrings.

As much as I love my job, it is wearing me out. My heart is going out of rhythm a lot these days (atrial arrhythmia), and I believe a lot of my palpitations are stress-induced. I've had this before, but it is much worse now. I've cut out all caffeine- even chocolate (sob!)- as it sends my heart pitter-pattering away. I have no other symptoms besides the palpitations, but I do need to have a check-up and deal with this... another doctor's appt... sigh...

So, D1 is off to the Bahamas already... Drat! I missed sending a bon voyage..

Kimberly- OMG You could have been writing about me when you expressed how you're feeling these days. ((Hugs)) I don't have a remedy, but I'm thankful to have a safe place to come and express what I'm feeling and have someone who will understand. Hang in there (and I will too!).

Carol- quite the chef these days, eh? Your meals sound yummy! How like your wonderful self to reach out to Muriel and help ease her puppy loss. I love that about you! Glad Zach's sessions are going well.

Cathy- looking forward to hearing about your weekend walking adventure. Hope the weather was beautiful and the feet were up to the challenge!

Kathy- 2 jobs, birthday parties, budding artists, swim lessons, friends with cancer... I'm ready for bed just reading about all of it. I'm reminded of what a true SHERO you are, going through all of this with little ones. Glad you were able to get your beach house secured for the family vacation next year!

Julie- sounds like a wise plan to get the house listed with a neutral party. It does sound like the delay might have been good- allowed you to re-think where you want to move. Congrats to ds on those wonderful grades AND on landing a part in the play, even if it isn't the lead role. His time in the spotlight will come!

CHJ- great pictures! You were definitely in the PINK there. Glad you had fun.

Sherry- more great pics! I'm sorry your family wasn't able to join you, but glad you went ahead and enjoyed yourself. Hope you have a good week at work!

Carla- how are the fall colors up there? Our colors have peaked and the trees will probably start shedding their leaves this week. Haven't rescheduled our WVU visit yet, but will be getting that done this week- I'm looking at the week of November 10-15.

Better get back to the laundry (last load). Wish you all a wonderful week.

The training walks went great and my feet survived.  I put in four miles on the treadmill this morning and didn't have any problems, so I think I should be okay for the 3-day next month.  We have another back-to-back in two weeks, but it's an 18-mile Saturday and only 12-mile for Sunday.  The group I train with is fantastic.  The 3-day has training leaders and they hold regular training walks, so this was a group of strangers back in June when we started.  Talking to these people (men and women) as I walk makes the miles fly by.  Several are survivors and it's interesting to compare stories.

Carol -- that was thoughtful of you to include your neighbor in your dinner.  I'm sure she appreciated the company.  There's a couple that occasionally attend our training walks who were in the Seattle event.  It's nice to see a husband wife team.  They are youngish and also run half marathons, so don't need to do much in the way of training.

Kimberly -- I hear you, sister. From what my gyno told me, it's the thinning of the vaginal walls more than dryness, but the discomfort is definitely there. While I'm grateful for how well I came through all the treatment, there are still times that it's easy to think how life used to be.  Hope Kath can just do surgery and Tamox.  Seems like I've encountered a lot of women who have been able to go that route.  One of my friends who helped me a lot when I was dx'd always feels guilty saying she's a cancer survivor because she never had to do chemo or radiation and was only on Tamox for a very short time before the doctor decided the benefits outweighed the side effects she was experiencing.

Paula -- how great that you were able to do some shopping on Coldwater's dime.  I've been to several fashion shows from their store and they have beautiful things.  There are a lot of outlet stores by our place in the mountains, so I tend to do my shopping there.  I swear half my tops are Izod.  When we were there two weeks ago, they were having 40% off the lowest price, so bought three cotton sweaters.  Technically they were summer merchandise, but here in SoCal, cotton sweaters are plenty warm for winter.

    Happy Monday,

So it looks like Sis Kimberly opened the can of worms. I've also been banging my head against the "things just aren't quite right" band wagon. I actually feel somewhat relieved to see that it is not just me, although I'm not too thrilled that any of us are having to cope with yet another set of issues. This so-called "new norm" rather sucks at this point. I realize that its common to have these feelings, and with time they should fade away, but in the present its kinda tough.

I as well try to be "upbeat", especially when asked "how you doing"???, I don't think many people would really be able to relate if I told them how I was "really" doing. It would be like do you have an hour, and do you really care ??? I personally think about the chances of a reoccurence, I try not to dwell on it, but it is in the back of my mind. My joints ache, I hobble about after sitting for even a short time, my inner arm is numb and funky feeling, my elbows are very tender after I golf, I'm missing a boob (yes my choice), I want to cry at the drop of a hat, and I have zero libido which in turn makes me feel stressed and I know is even harder on my dh (thank god we have had a strong relationship for the past 10 years). Yes, I'm thankful that I am cancer free, but I really miss not feeling the way I did 13 months ago. I'm so with you Sis Kimberly, I feel like I've physically aged 10 years in the past 12 months. My gyn did remind me that most women also go through menopause over the course of many years. Personally I was slammed into it at a high rate of speed, and I believe that you we're as well. Our bodies are struggling to try and figure out what the heck hit um !!!

Over the past few months I may have sounded like I was full of energy, but honestly its been a battle. I certainly could be very content to come home after work and totally vegetate. I'm hoping that I will be able to keep the mindset to continue with some type of exercise routine, and of course the Yoga. Other than that, I'm still holding on to the thought that this too shall pass. I just hope it doesn't take too long.

Okay, now I feel better, as I was typing this I did actually think to myself, "self, maybe you need to go have a chat with a mental health professional". That will definitely not be out of the question if my mental mood doesn't brighten up a bit.

Oh, back to you Kimberly, I cannot even imagine reliving this journey with a love one right now. My hat is off to you gal.

The great washcloth story was Kathy's as I recall.

Did you get the chance to hit some balls ??? I golfed yesterday with some friends, left the house with shorts on at 8:00am, seemed warm enough in the garage, just about froze my butt right off. Ended up being a nice day, but chilly with the breeze.

Paula, so heart palpitations ... if what I had years ago we're those, that's a nasty feeling. Things must be not so good if your cutting out the chocolate. I would have to say that after I ranted about how shitty I've been feeling, you have definitely had more than your share of stress in comparison. I'm glad that you will be getting yourself checked out ... right?

Cathy, you sound good to go for your walk. I know at this point I was more concerned about packing my duffle bag then the actual walk. You may be on to something with this staying in a hotel gig !!!

Lastly, I had a real nice visit yesterday with my friend (Debra) here in Poulsbo who is doing CMF chemo as well. We shared many of our feelings, hence the timing of Kimberly's remarks. Poor gal though, here she assumed that she would not lose her hair (as most CMFer's don't), well she is down to almost nothing left with one more month to go. I know that she was rather disappointed to be in that small percentage of people on CMF to lose so much.

Tomorrow its off to the local surgeon to discuss port removal.

Okay, putting on my big girl panties and leaving for Yoga. I can really use the stretches tonight.

    Be well my friends, Carol

Just me again, back from Yoga ... yep my mind was going 100mph.  So much for the relaxation portion of the hour !!!   The stretching was beneficial though.   I was thinking how although I would prefer not to bitch and moan about myself ... I did ... and then I thought, you know who else could REALLY relate ???  Not my husband, kids, family, closest friends, and the men I spend the better part of 8 hours with a day ... it would be the gals I've relied on for the past 10 months to help with the ups and downs.  Its easy to read in a book that "its normal" to feel this way, and another thing to have those you have shared so much with reaffirm it.  Make sense ???

So Kathy, how'd the big day go Sunday.  As I look at the pic of Zach and I on the bedroom wall, he's probably 3 in the pic ... now those we're some fun times !!!

Deb, so I missed it but the author to "The Middle Place" was right here in my back yard.  I had not heard about it (not much advertising I guess) and my friend Debra brought the book to my house yesterday to share her story with me.  Debra didn't ask me to attend, at the time she was feeling really lousy from an infusion and did not even want to go herself.  Her work colleagues encouraged her to go, and when she got there she was singled out of the crowd and ended up chatting with the author after the presentation.  I was bummed I had missed the opportunity, but I did order the book.

    Night Again !

Carol, Kimberly, Paula ... I know exactly how you all feel. Carol, I think I could have written your second paragraph above. It hits the nail right on the head in every aspect.

The joint thing is particularly aggravating. My onc says not to blame the Herceptin, and I guess if you (and others) are suffering joint issues, maybe it IS late side effects/after effects from chemo itself. But for me, it was like a switch flipped ... one day my joints were fine, then bam, joint pain, right around the time I started rads. Crazy. I just fear it isn't going to get better. I flash back to my mother, who practically didn't leave the house for the last 10 years of her life ... she had weight issues, but mostly she had debilitating arthritis in her knees and ankles. I just fear that the treatments have pushed me onto that path ... a path I so don't want to be on ....

Emotionally, I too, worry much about recurrence. A couple of weeks ago I had some pain in the rib under my right breast. I wondered if perhaps it was from mowing the lawn ... toyed with the notion that it was rads related ... but obsessed over bone mets. Yeah. Bone mets. Here I'm still getting treatments, and I'm obsessing over bone mets. The onc noticed my darker mood the last time I had an appointment. He said, "You don't think the cancer is coming back, do you?" Well duh. I said,"You're the doc, you tell me." He said he didn't think it would, but that's what they say, you know. They want us to move on and live our lives free of fear. But they don't know if it's coming back. One onc. said as much in an article I was reading about the war on cancer. He said, "We tell them we got it all and send them on their way and tell them not to worry. What else are we going to do?"

That's it. We worry about it, and just try to walk the walk of a normal life, and hope our emotions will snap into place as we go about the motions of "normal." Other survivors say it gets better. But I don't think they're like me. Me, I'm an obsessor.
