Anyone ER/PR, HER-2 all positive?
I was recently diagnosed with IDC, ER/PR + and HER-2+ and I haven't seen anyone else on the message boards with this combo. Does HER-2+ usually indicate that chemo is needed? I haven't had the OncotypeDX test yet - I'll ask my oncologist about it. I'm 37 with some family history, so I took the genetic test and had an MRI and I'm getting those results tomorrow.

Hello audrynyc. I was diagnosed with the same as you for a while. I did get chemo and herceptin until another onc said that I wasn't HER2+ according to FISH testing. I had three FISH that were negative and one IHC that was 3+. I had 4 Herceptins with AC +T. I read on the Herceptin site that there are some false positives.
Were you tested with IHC or FISH? FISH is supposed to be more accurate and....I am thinking that I read somewhere that ER+ and PR+ isn't often Her2+. I could be wrong. Most likely I am wrong. I do remember reading that slow growing grade 1 BC is often not Her2 +.
Good luck on the Oncotype test. I had positive nodes so had to have chemo.
We are very lucky to ahve herceptin. Did you see the Lifetime movie last night? It was great but was a tear jerker.

Hi Shirley - thanks for your reply. I didn't have IHC or FISH testing. I'll need to look into that. Yes, I Tivo'ed the Lifetime movie last night - still need to watch it. I'm trying to pace myself - feeling very overwhelmed!

Hi Audrey - I'm also "triple positive. My oncologist was shocked when my Fish report came back highly Her2+ (because my tumor was only .9cm - and grade 1). My Oncotype Dx score was 22 (low-intermediate) so he said I would need Herceptin with chemo. Since I had a mastectomy, he decided that a mild-type of chemo would be sufficient, since Herceptin works well with any chemo, so he put me on Navelbine for 4 months. It doesn't hurt your heart - and wouldn't make me go bald. I'm done with it now - and will continue Herceptin for the full year. Since I'm post-menopausal, I'll be on Arimidex for 5 years.
You can find out more information about Her2+ breast cancer at this web site:
What stage and grade is your cancer? If there is any doubt if you are Her2+ you should ask your oncologist to have your tumor sent out for a FIsh test. BC IS overwhelming - but the women here are very informative and supportive so you came to the right place!

I am triple positive. The Onco test for me came back at 20, so I have chosen not to do chemo. My tumor was small (4 mm) and my oncologist did not recommend chemo--the risks would have outweighed the benefits. I am on Tamoxifen, as I am highly ER positive.
Good luck with the Oncotype test!! May it come back low so you won't have to make any hard decisions.

I am diagnosed the same as you. I am scheduled for a Mastectomy on Oct 27 and I suppose they will do further pathology then.
I was kind of freaked out when I first came to the site because I didn't see a lot of people with the +++ either but its great to see more each time I come! Actually its not GREAT but its great since we are all in the same boat. I wish none of us were dealing with this at ALL!!!

Audrey: I was diagnosed ER+/PR+. After surgery and pathology report, my doc said he's waiting on the results of the Her2 test and if it were positive, he would recommend a low dose chemo. It came back negative. No sure if this info is helpful to you.

Triple positive for me too. I've noticed quite a few on the boards over the last several months. Thank God for Herceptin!!!

I met with my oncologist and she said I wouldn't need to do the FISH test or the OncoType DX. She thought the IHC test was conclusive enough about being HER 2 + but now I'm thinking I should push for the OncoType test at least... My tumor is very small (8 mm) so that may be enough reason not to have to do chemo. I'm scheduled for a lumpectomy next Monday. Thoughts on this anyone?

Another triple positive here. My tumors (DCIS and IDC) together measured < than 1 cm. My onc. said because of the very tiny nature, and because I had a mastectomy, I had treated the cancer aggressively enough, and said that chemo wouldn't benefit my survival chances that much at all. I really wanted Herceptin, but without chemo, I couldn't get it. So, I have been on Femara only for the past 2 years, and so far have been cancer free. Hopes this helps.

Hi,
I am triple positive. Before the lumpectomy, they thought my tumor was 7mm. I had an mri and they said 9mm. After the lumpectomy, they said the tumor was actually l.2cms. They told me I needed to do everything. I was reluctant and needed time to think, so I requested to do the radiation first. Towards the end of my radiation, I had decided I would not do chemo, but wanted herceptin. After much work, reasearch, and consulting, I found the way to get herceptin alone. I only have 5 more treatments, but feel that I made the right choice for me.
My radiation oncologist said to follow your instinct, and that many people changed their mind one way or the other when given time to ponder the options. Good luck, it will be a hard year, but you will find new friends and much support. I look at life and people differently now, and think that maybe this was a blessing in disguise. I now am thankful for every day I have.

Hello, I also was dx'd with ER+/PR+ and Her2+ in 6/06. I had multi focal tumors-3 total, the largest measuring over 2.1cm.. with lymph (21 removed) and vascular invasion...I had a mastectomy, chemo, radiation and Herceptin (actually cut short by 2 tx's because of side effects) I am 2 yrs out as of 8/06...I did see the movie on Lifetime twice, though hard to watch I am very grateful to the Doctor who was persistant in discovering this drug...triple + and still going strong.

I'm 38 and ER+/PR+/Her2+. IDC with one stage II tumor at 2.5cm and a smaller one behind it at 6mm. I had a lumpectomy and node biopsy this week. The nodes look good but I'll get the final pathology on Monday. I will do chemo and had a port placed during surgery. We are still finalizing what types of chemo and how many rounds. Herceptrin will be a part, of course. I told my oncologist that 'I am not afraid of dying of this tumor. I am afraid of being sick with cancer while I raise my kids.' My husband and I decided on chemo because we are going to do everything we can in order to give me the best chance for a cancer free life. All the best to you. These choices are tough ones.

I am triple positive as well. I am 37 and starting Chemo + Herceptin this Friday, November 7th. I am terrified of it. I had a bi-lateral mastectomy on 9/16/08 for extensive DCIS in my left breast. I opted to do the right breast to in order to be aggressive with this. However my pathology came back with a very small tumor (.4cm) in addition to the DCIS. It also showed I am ER+ PR+ and HER2+++. So in order to get the Herceptin I will also need to do chemo. I am opting to take Taxol/Herceptin weekly for 12 weeks and then continue the Herceptin for a year. I haven't read of too many people do this without the "C". However, my Onc felt these side effects would be less harsh on my body, ovaries, etc. I am praying I am making the right decisions. I didn't do the OncotypeDX test because my Onc said that because of my age and the + HER2 results, plus the other pathology information, it was felt I would be in the "high" risk group.

how long after surgery does it take for path report on nodes and tumor?
-
LuLu2011,
It can take up to a week. Call your surgeon and ask if they are in yet.
Hope this helps.
