Nervous!

I am a kind of nervous. I am going to receive the chemo this tuesday 19 of February. What should I do?
-
Hi Beadi,
I'm soo sorry that you are going through this; but you have come to the right place for support. What kind of chemo will you be getting? Everyone is different; but for the most part I found it to not be as bad as I expected. There are so many anti-nausea meds now that if one doesn't work, you can always try something else. In my case, I never threw up. I would have my chemo on Tuesday and by Friday morning, I felt very tired and run down. It's hard to describe, I guess I just felt yuk! I would sleep most of Friday and Sat. By Sunday, I would feel more like normal and by Monday I would feel pretty good. Chemo is doable for most people. I hope this helps.
Come to the boards often and let us know how you are doing. You will get through this.
God bless,
Chris

Good morning (Goodmommy) Chris!
Tomorrow I am going to receive a combination of adryamicin and cyclofosfamida (Cytoxan). I will receive both combo in three hours. I will be at the hospital at 9.00 am and treatment will start at 9.30 am. Wednesday I will get this combo just for one hour until Friday. Both will be given in 4 cycles. Later when this combo/treatment is finished, I will get taxol. Thanks for your support!
Have a nice day!

Beady - I second the comment ... chemo today is not the stuff of our nightmares. The wondering, the anticipation is the worst. Once I had my first treatment "done" I was much better. Everyone reacts differently, but I can tell you that I am most tired and just kinda crappy between day 3-7 after chemo. I have come to describe it as crappy, medium crappy and regular crappy.
The drugs are important. My oncologist has routinely said - much easier NOT to become nauseous than the control it after becoming nauseous. I have finished 5 rounds of chemo (FECD) now and have never thrown - deep breathing and relax, and, take the drugs as directed. I only have one more session to go - yippee !!!
The other important thing - water water water water ... drink lots of water. Your body will scream for it in my experience. And, ensure that you do eat. Sometimes you don't feel like it and food doesn't always have the same taste - but eat. Your body needs to have the protein and such in order to be strong.
Chemo is do'able - absolutely. Remember - it's a short term issue for a lifetime!!! A friend of mine who also had breast cancer said to me - chemo is like Buckly's Cough Syrup - it may be awful sometimes, but it works !!
So - off you go ... you'll do great. Come back and let us know how you're doing ...
Laura in Victoria -
Drink lots of water and other liquids - lots. It will help flush out the chemicals. Always remember - chemo and its effects are temporary. You may be one who breezes through chemo with no problems - or you may be one who has the bone pain, nausea, debillitating fatigue, etc. Stay on top of things. I took my antinausea meds every morning whether I needed them or not. Pain meds I would take at the first sign of discomfort. I had 15 weekly treatments of Adriamycin and daily pills of Cytoxin. After the A/C, I had 11 weekly doses of Taxol. To my way of thinking, I hibernated all of last year and got so tired of being tired. But, here I am - last chemo was Nov. Double mastectomy in Dec, and I am up and feeling so much better - enjoy getting out and doing my photography. Now I'm getting ready to start rads this week. All things pass and regardless of how bad you may feel during chemo, it is temporary. Hugs and good luck!
-
Good morning (LauraVic) Victoria!
I will let you and Chris know about what had happened tomorrow morning. I am going to relax and to breath easy. I learned long time ago self hypnosis so I can apply it meanwhile receiving the AC. (adryamicin and cyclofosfamida). Other thing I can do is listening jazz music. Thanks for your support!
Have a nice day!

Good luck tomorrow Beadi, I was nervous for my first chemo as well my sister came with me and I turned into the class clown for awhile we did scratch tickets, joked, anything to make the first one easy. Make sure you drink lots of water and don't forget to take your steroids if they prescribed them first. That was my mistake first time I forgot.pearl49

Good morning Skyrat! Doctor told me I should drink plenty of water before and during the chemo. So lots of water! I am not sure, but I think I heard I am going to receive an antinausea med. I will let you know tomorrow how I went through.
Thanks for your support!
Have a nice day!

Beadi,
One other thing I forgot to mention. Get some Biotine toothpaste and mouthwash. Use it often; it helps to prevent mouthsores. I didn't know about it until after my first chemo and the sores can be pretty uncomfortable. I got them after my first chemo and my best friend told me her onc recommended it. They cleared up a couple days after I started using it and I never got them again.
I will be praying for you tomorrow. My husband and I make it a point to go to Mass on Tuesdays (just a little extra for us).
God bless,
Chris

Good evening GoodMommy , Laura-Vic , Skyrat ,
snowyday , nobleanna007!!!
How are you? I just wanted to let you know I`m doing fine. I received one hour of cyclofosamida and after that my doctor gave me adryamicin. The drug is in a medium size tube. I am carring it. I have a porth-a-cat (catheter). Doctor also gave me medication for mouth sores (sodium bicarbonate with saline solution). Also I received an antinausea pill. (1 pill per day). My doctor gave me instructions to buy more medicines which I am going to look for them tomorrow. I am drinking alot of water too! Side effects for the moment: a waves of hot, and some kind of headache.
Alright! Thanks a million for your support again,
I will be in touch everyday....
Regards,
Beadi

Hi Beadi,
I'm glad that things have gone well for the first treatment. You have been in my thoughts and prayers all day. Try to get some rest.
God bless,
Chris

Good morning Goodmommy! How are you this morning? At this moment I am doing well. Not more headaches neither waves of hot, only one thing: I have to keep my stomach full of food. I have to be very careful about it. Around 9:00 pm I get some pain in my stomach (due of lack of food). But I will be starting today in to be very cautious on this.
My oncologist put me into a very strick diet and to drink alot of water.
Thanks for your support!
Bye for now!

About A/C chemo. Eat even if you don't feel like it. Take your anti-emetics, and if you can keep your mouth cold while receiving the adryamicin it will keep you from getting mouth sores. Popcicles and Icees help. You can use ice chips, too. Just keep your mouth COLD while getting the injection.
Also, nobody told me before I started chemo, but you might get some wicked acid reflux after the second round.
-
Good morning Chiefette: I will take the ice chips during the day. And drink alot of water. Today I am going to drink Phillips magnesia milk twice a day, to see if I will be able go to the bathroom. I havent gone there since the first treatment.
Thanks for your support!
Have a wonderful day!

Hi Beadi,
I'm so glad that you seem to be doing well with the chemo. My husband and I decided to take a winter vacation; so Saturday we will be leaving on a cruise to the Western Carribean. We were going to leave on Friday to drive from Missouri to New Orleans; but a terrible ice storm was predicted for today and moving from Mississippi which we had to drive through so we left a day early. Right now, we are hanging out at a hotel in New Orleans. Tomorrow, we will do Bourbon St. and Jackson Square.
Keep your chin up and before you know it this chemo stuff will be history. You are in my prayers.
God bless,
Chris

Good morning Chris! How are you this morning?
Doctor gave me last tuesday Cyclosofamida combined with Adryamicin. Next days I was given Adryamicin. My first round of chemo (A) were finished this last Friday. I will be off of this for three weeks. Friday and Saturday I was tired. Side effects: By Saturday I got this bad taste on some foods, constipation, gas, irritated stomach (acid), dry mouth, tirediness. Today I am getting better of the constipation. I got a very good breakfast at home and went out to eat more breakfast, so I went to a chinese restaurant. Tomorrow I will heading to my jobsite to work.
Thanks for your support!

Good evening Joelle! How are you? Sorry to hear you are going with this situation. I am actually in the second treatment of TAXOL. It begun last friday 23 of May and havent felt anything. Every Friday I will received as I did today (I felt waves of hot). Joelle. About Adriamicin and Cyclosofamida I will recommend or suggest to ask your doctor if you can take two Tylenol extra strenght right after receiving the chemo (for the headaches). Of course, It could be better before. But ask your doctor. Have couple of ice bag. Those small bags so can you put those to your face, arms, and legs if you feel waves of hot. Those things happened to me, and may not will happened to you, but just in case, I suggest those. And the most important thing: be very occupied by doing something like reading, watching tv or something you like most (while receiving the chemo and when you are at home). Very important!!!
Drink alot of water too. I will pray for you. And remember, be very positive!!!
Hands up!!!

Hi Joelle,
I am 75% done the same treatment as you. I've done my 4 A/C and 2 out of 4 Taxols.
To be truthful, I found the A/C harder to take than the Taxol. It would kind of knock me out for 4-5 days post-treatment. Nausea and acid reflux were my big problems. The anti-nausea drugs helped - so do take them - but they cause fatigue and a weird 'out-of-it' feeling. A/C really knocked my blood counts down so I felt tired and weak. I'm trying to be really careful to avoid exposure to germs because my immune system is compromised. My hair also began falling out in large chunks on day 15 after the first A/C. I had it buzzed and am wearing a wig now. Wigs are not fun and for me, the hair loss has been the worst day-to-day effect of cancer. But I'm used to wearing it now. I got one that was real close to my natural hair colour so I like myself when I go out in it. I tend to wear hats around the house. For me, Taxol has been much easier to take. No nausea, only minor fatigue and a bit of muscle pain after treatment. But totally manageable. I wish you all the best. It's tough at the beginning, but in a few months you'll be over the worst and feeling much better. Try to remember that on your bad days.

Beadi - I am so glad to hear that you are going through chemo so well! Keep it up girl!

Hi Girls, I wanted to thank you so much all of you Beadi, Lisa thank you for your great tips!!!
I have one question , will I be able to take the train after my first AC treatment?
because right now I live in NY city but I would like to take the train right after the chemo to my parents home in Maryland and its 3 hours away from NY.
the reason I would like to go there it is because I live in a residence for girls here and we all share bathrooms and kitchen and its a bit scarry to have to share all these things when the immune system is down, even though i clean everything before i use it, I was thinking about going to rest at my parents place and not needing to worry about my comfort.
please let me know if you girls have any ideas on how i will feel after my first chemo cause i need to take this train for the next 3 hours.
Love to all

Hi Joelle, Well I am on the same treatment as you, just had my first chemo on May 29 which was last Thursday. The day of the treatment was just fine did not feel anything, but the days thereafter were not fun at all. Actually the worst day for me was the 3 day after chemo. Just feel nauseated which I took pills for and helped, couldn't sleep the first night and had severe headaches for the first 2 days I believe. It is now 6 days after and I am starting to feel better actually each day now I feel a little better. All you can do is lay down and take it easy till those first few days go bye and definitely drink lots of water. My mouth has been so dry there is no way that I could forget the water. We just have to hang in there and get it done I am already on the countdown 1 down and lots more to go lol.
You take care you will be fine, I would definitely go and stay with your mom probably will be easier for you.

Good afternoon Joelle! You asked: will I be able to take the train after my first AC treatment? Taking the train for three hours? My question is: After the very first day of taking the chemo can you rent a room in a hotel for at least two days and later go straight to your parents`s house? Take care and I will pray for you!

Good afternoon Joelle! I am glad doctors gave you anti nausea medications. I was given Amend, with another one. I am on my 9 treatment for TAXOL. Surprisingly I have no bad side effects. Only waves of hot (small kind) and a little bit of headache.
Today is August 29. My treatment of Taxol was finished on.
