Anniversry

I was diagnosed with stage 1 4 years ago this month. My husband and I have said we would have a celebration party at 5 years. So when is my anniversary? I had a wide excision on 10/21/04, the margins were clear, but not deep enough. They went back in on 11/3, took more and did sentinel lymph node. All was negative that time. I did radiation and finished the first week of January 2005. So I was cancer free as of 10/21, but still under treatment. Sounds silly, but I would like to know what you all think!

My onc said my date is the day I was diagnosed. He said "you started surviving then didn't you?" He pointed out we couldn't use when I had surgery or started treatment because if I was stage 4 and continually on different treatments - we'd have to keep changing it. So for me - it's the day I was dx.

Personally I go by my surgery date 10/25/07, b/c thats the day the beast was removed with my breast and I was cancer free. The chemo and treatments are to keep it at bay and not return, so that's continuous for 4 1/2 more years. DO not want to use that one! I think it depends on when YOU felt you no longer HAD cancer. In your case, if it were me, I'd feel comfortable with November 3rd, b/c of the possibility of dirty margins before that. But that's me and my feelings. But that's my take, everyone is different for different reason.

First, CONGRATS on your 4 year!!!!

Second, there are so many different views...yes the cancer was "removed" ...but you did "SURVIVE" the news since your dx...I personally go with the time I was diagnosed.

In any event or choice...its a celebration that must be fullfilled! Have FUN!
