I'm not a 100% pink hater but for some reason it's bugging me more this year!  maybe it's cuz it's my 5th year and I still worry about being jinx and too much pink might do it.  But to be honest it seems worse this year.  Walking around Target it's pink, pink, pink.  Seriously do I, or anyone, need a pink bc water pitcher???????

I firmly believe in creating awareness!  I'm just not sure that pink spatulas are the way to do it.

Ok got that off my chest.  And again it's just bugging me this year - not 100% against ALL BC stuff!

Say pink measuring cups at Walmart. BARF. But...I just ignore it now. If it says for the CURE, I smile. If it says awareness, I cringe.

i agree...i can't stand it.  personnally i think thry're all just taking advantage.  most of them only give a very small percentage anyway.  i don't need to hear bc...i don't need to see bc.  i have it right here in my body.  that's close enough thank you.

I feel the same as all of you.  I feel that only a small percentage of what the ACC takes in is going toward research for a cure.   I would like to see the ACC be held accountable for where all the money is going and why they are moving so slowly toward finding a cure.  I would like to see all Phase III trials be availble to women who want to participate.  I would like to see more research being done into the genetics of cancer...... genes that are no longer working.. and how to repair that.  Greece already has trials of repairing different mutation in genes.  I think we are moving too slow.   Great strides have been made in AIDS but the breast cancer issue is moving very slowly.  Let's hope there are some women at the top of the organization.

My Mom sent me pink bush trimmers this year.  I moved into a condo a year ago and have nothing to trim.  Of all the pink junk out there, this showed how out of touch she is.

    Hi NbyN:

Here's another one who is fed up with all the pink marketing, although here in Canada most stores seem to have a very discreet small section dedicated to bc products.  But I agree, it's "cause marketing" run amok!

But I do want to defend the ACS which, I'm sure is very similar to the Cdn Cancer Society.  I was on the Board of the CCS some years ago, and I can assure everyone that at least 51% of all dollars raised (gross, not net) goes directly to the National Cancer Institute.  These monies are then allocated to various research projects by a peer-review panel.

Less than 10% goes to administration and fundraising costs, the remainder is used for patient support (Reach for Recovery, volunteers drivers etc.) and education and awareness.  There has always been enormous concern by the CCS and ACS for patients who have neither the financial wherewithal nor the family/friend supports we all need going through this difficult journey.

Both organizations depend to a very large extent on volunteers, rather than paid staff.

    Best regards,

    Linda

I saw pink tic tacs yesterday and that was just about the limit for me.

The cynic in me says "it's companies' attempts to increase sales with the premise that they're going to donate some proceedings to bc because almost everyone is touched by bc in some way."

The non-cynic in me says...." "

Yeah I'm bitter just ignore me.

I'm not one to get all upset over PINK being EVERYWHERE every fricking October but just today as I was leaving O'Hare airport I saw pink ribbons on two marquees. They 'stated' nothing, they were just pink pibbons next to the marquees that stated "click it or ticket" WTF??? Overkill for sure. And, what the hell is O'Hare airport 'doing' for BC????? More awareness? Like we're not all already aware??? Grrrrrrr.........

I'm not bitter, I just 'hide' the fact at work that I've had BC just as to not have to have a conversation about all of this "BC awareness" month crapola!
