A view from the outside (sort of)

I could vote in this election, but I won't because I won't have to put up with the effects directly. But from the outside, neither side is covering themselves with glory here, from my vantage both are rather nasty. Calling someone a vagina is nasty, invoking the anti-christ is nasty too. I'm actually amazed at the vituperativeness involved in the campaign, not just here but everywhere. Tonight I sat down with my husband and asked when we last lived in the US during a presidential campaign. Chemo brain you know. It was Carter vs. Reagan. As I recall they didn't throw this kind of shit at each other. When did it get this way? How has it come to demonizing the "other"? When did there get to be red and blue states? We have had republican and democratic presidents and congresses and the sky didn't fall. What's with the doomsday scenarios?



This is not good. It's not good inside the US and it isn't good for the image of the US in the rest of the world. It saddens me.

    For me it's a matter of pro life.  I could not vote for someone that was pro choice.  That is my compass.....after that it is smaller gov't........more state rights instead of federal.........if there were a blue dog democrat that believed in pro life, less taxes and controlled gov't spending I would not have any trouble in voting for him or her.........I personally believe that politics has always been a contact sport.  Today we just have 24 hour news cycles, Internet, blogs.......and let's face it the news is not what it used to be.........it is more for entertainment and ratings then anything else...........the cable news has taken sides...........MSNBC for Obama and Fox for McCain.......CNN (can't quite figure them out).......but with that said I have never believed that we are as hated as so many people say we are........I think it's a urban legend..........if that were true then why do we get so many people coming here?.........I live in Texas......we have hundreds of people coming in everyday legally and illegally...........and for some reason I just don't care how the world see's us.........I am just concern how I see my country and I happen to love her.......Shokk
