Magnesium can upset the digestive system, known to cause some diarrhea, and gas. The later of course might cause pressure on the upper stomach/lower esophagus sphincter, and perhaps alter the sphincter between the two organs. If this happens some acid may reflux upward. So, long winded way of saying, yes, imho, it's possible. I discontinued my magnesium for GI symptoms.

Heartburn is also common due to hiatal hernia, where a part of the upper stomach ends upward into the chest area. This definitely can cause heartburn. Hiatal hernia is very common.

Relux can also cause what feels like heart burn also.  There's a disease where the stomach splashes back up into the esphogus causing scarring and is serious.  You need to see your doctor and find out if there are things at play, or if it's truly the magnesium. Good Luck

Sometimes our bodies change and our stomachs produce excess acid.  It can be very painfull.  Try papaya juice.  Google it and you'll find alot of info on papaya helping with heartburn.
