Are there actually ladies out there with Her2+++ that only had a lumpectomy?

I am just wanting to see. Where I live, very few had lumpectomy even after chemo shrunk the tumor to nothing.. Just wanting to see if other women chose lump. vs Mast with this  aggressive cancer.

    Hi,

I had just a lumpectomy.  My tumor was 1.2 centimeters.  I guess we caught it  really early.  No node involvement.  Currently treated with herceptin and tamoxifen.  Hope you are doing alright!

I only had a lumpectomy.  My tumor size was 1.2 cm and I had one lymph node affected.  I felt that a mastectomy was kind of a big step for me.  It may come down to it at some point, but I believe herceptin is a great drug and am praying it works for me!

I had a lumpectomy.  Stage 1, 1.1 cm.  Surgeon told me survival rates were the same for lumpectomy + radiation as for mastectomy and that she saw no benefit to me of a mastectomy.  I also had chemo (due to poor grade), herceptin and Arimidex.

I had a lumpectomy, tumour was originally 2.5 cm. and I had a positive lymph node. I later had a bilateral mast. after a new tumour was found in the other breast (not HER2 +)

I'm Her2+ and had a lumpectomy and radiation.  Tumor was less than 1cm and actually was totally removed in the original biopsy.  When they did the lumpectomy, no residual tumor was found. Lymph node was negative.  I am currently on Femara.

I had a lumpectomy - combination IDC and DCIS.  Total lump removed was about 5 cm.   The IDC portion was Her2+++.    I am getting ready to start a regimen of chemo followed by radiation and Herceptin.   But, in looking at the stats in my case, I am quite comfortable this regimen (including the lumpectomy) will bring down my recurrence rate to single digits, despite the "aggressive" IDC portion.    The only thing that could change this plan at this point is the genetic testing which comes back in a couple weeks for me.

Best of luck in your treatment !

I was diagnosed in 2002 with HER2 +++ ER+PR- IDC.  1.2cm node negative tumor.  I had a lumpectomy with 4 rounds of AC and 30 rads.  Its been 6 years and I am doing GREAT!!

I had a lumpectomy.  Tumor was 1.5 cms, node negative.  I had 4 AC, 4 Taxol and 21 rads.  I'm getting Herceptin till April '09.  Big shout out to Kate!!! 6 years and still doing great.  I love hearing stories like that.  Gives me a lot of hope for the future.

Lumpectomy and axillary node dissection here. Original tumor was grade 3, about 3.1 cm. Nodes were palpably involved, measured on PET at 2.4 cm.

Did 4 Dose Dense AC, then 12 weeks of Taxol + Herceptin.

Then I had surgery. No cancer cells found anywhere in the path report. Followed with 33 radiation zaps.

Now am about 2/3 of the way through Herceptin alone every 3 weeks.

I had lumpectomy and mammosite radiation, with two surgeries to get clear margins - my IDC was small (.8 cm) but the DCIS was extensive - called IDC with EIC.

The danger being HER2+++ is from systemic metastatic disease - not local recurrence.  I'm more concerned about the chemo doing its job -- and I'm wondering if it's not a better sequence in HER2+++ (like with inflammatory BC) to do chemo FIRST before surgery to minimize the jarring loose of those bad cells...food for thought and research.

Another lumpectomy. I agree that the main concern is that the cells might have gotten out of the breast before the surgery which the chemo takes care of.

Radiation gets any stay cells that the surgery and chemo didn't get (because they might be in a spot in the breast that doesn't have enough blood flow for the chemo to get them.

Mortality and recurrence is the same for lumpectomy plus radiation and mastectomy. Dr Susan Love's Breast Book says that liumpectomy plus radiation is as aggressive treatment as mastectomy. Mastectomy does leave some breast cells behind so there can be a local recurrence even with that.

I also had a lumpectomy. My tumor was 1.6cm and the surgeon was able to get clear margins.  I will begin radiation on 10/22 with five weeks of radiation on entire breast and week and a half of 'boost' radiation treatments on tumor area.   As bluedasher says, everything I am reading states(and my surgeon stated as well)  that lumpectomy and radiation is as effective as mastectomy.

I also had a lumpectomy, although it was a large one.

     A/C chemo every 3 weeks, times 4.  35 rads.

Herceptin every 3 weeks for 1 year.

Stage 3 at onset, grade 3, 3.7 cm tumor, 1 positive Node in mammary chain (chest), no positive axialary nodes.

    So far, so good.

Lumpectomy here....It all happened so fast, I really didn't have time to think about it.  I went from first baseline mammo to lumpectomy within one week.  In retrospect, I probably would have done a mast just because of my anxiety but so far, so good.

I had IDC, her2, 3+++  ER,PR neg. my tumor was grade 3. I was dxed. March 04. I did A/C Tax. 32 rads. and 5, months later they approved Herceptin and I did 1 year of that.I am doing great. Mary

Have not visited in a long time, hoping details will show in footer.

My IDC tumor was 1.5 cm.  Lumpectomy, two nodes dissected, clear.  Mammosite radiation, chemo (Adriamycin and Cytoxin)   HER-Neu+++ so Herceptin for 8 3-weekly sessions, then stopped at my request because of very bad muscle spasms in rib area.

Stopped Herceptin 14 months ago, NED.

I had a lumpectomy for 2cm IDC.  Unfortunately, 8 months after completing A/C, Taxol, rads and hysterectomy I had a local recurrence and found mets at the same time.  After mets were stable, PET scan lit up four tumors in the same breast AGAIN.  Had bi-lat mast. Of course hindsight is 20/20....but I wish I had mast to begin with.  But I made the best decision I could with the information I had at the time.  That is all we can do!

That's what I have planned, right now anyway.  I'm doing neoadjuvant chemo (first), then surgery, then rads.  Beause my tumor has shrunk in just over 6 weeks of chemo from 6cm to 2cm to where my onc cannot feel it anymore, we're looking at lumpectomy and sampling of some nodes.  He's encouraging me that we may be looking at CR (I guess the same as NED).  Then continue with herceptin every 3 weeks for a year.

Yup lumpectomy as well, Surgeon believes in keeping as much breast as possible. They had to double deep and I didn't get clean margins but wouldn't have with a mastecomy either.  Herceptin now after FEC D last year, second treatment and I'm having heart pain, eve took two anti anxiety pills to see if that was the cause it isn't, as long as I lay down it doesn't hurt sitting or staning hurts, my p nurses are coming tomorrow so I will let them fiquire it out.  Bye for now all must lay down.

Lumpectomy at first, then after chemo I had bilateral mastectomy. Bad boob stayed infected the whole time I was on chemo, and I was just tired of worrying about it so I just had the girls taken off. I'll be doing Herceptin until January.
