Only thing I could find is the normal Neuprogen shot or they treat it like a viral or bacterial infections.  I know one of the girls on this site, the research clinic just treats her with Predonisone to help her platelets.  All this means I think is they are suppressing her immune system more for infection.  To treat viral/bacterial infection naturally with Beta 1,3 Glucan and WobenzymN enzymes.

There is not a lot of this out there.

Neupogen does not help platelets, only WBC count. You should avoid asprin and Motrin or anything that has asprin-like properties.

Shed, do you know why you have low platelets? Are you currently having or have you just completed chemotherapy? Do you have a problem with your bone marrow in any way? How about your liver & spleen?

Sometimes low platelets are due to a condition called ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpurea) where a person's platelet count drops for no known reason. It may be treated with drugs, like the prednisone mentioned above. In some situations/conditions a doctor might use Neumega (interleukin 11) which can stimulate the production of platelets. Also, as mentioned above, aspirin & similar medications, can make your condition worse.

The platelets come from the bone marrow with the help of a natural hormone called thrombopoietin. They circulate for only a few days, then are filtered out by the spleen. For some people who have chronically low platelet counts, their spleen is removed to help keep the platelet count as high as possible.

For platelets to work well, people need sufficient calcium and Vitamin K. Most women are aware that calcium & Vitamin D are essential for bone health, so you are likely already taking these. You might consider taking a Vitamin K supplement as well after talking with your doctor. It would be important for your doctor to know if you take Vitamin K supplements as it may interfere with a drug therapy prescribed for you for other reasons. For example, if you take coumadin (warfarin) to reduce your risk of blood clots, Vitamin K will make this drug less effective. If you've been given heparin, I don't believe Vitamin K would interfere or help. Both drug may be used to treat clotting disorders. Foods that are high in Vitamin K include kale, collards & spinach. You can find a list here:

Since a diagnosis of low platelet counts would have come from your doctor, any further information about what they think it's due to and what they've recommended would be helpful.

In the meantime, the link posted by FST for the platelet disorder support association may be helpful for you. I thought this page was particularly good:

thanks for your reply.  i'm currently on Xeloda, although I wasn't allowed to pick up tablets this morning as my platelet count had dropped another 6 points.  the onc did mention bone marrow mets, but wants to wait and see if the platelets come back up before doing a bone marrow biopsy.

the platelets just seemed to drop heaps in the last 6 weeks.  the count was 165 and dropped in 6 weeks to 56 and now dropped 6 points in @ week.  I don't take vitamin K supplements so will ask at my next visit, which is just over @ week away.  I do have Zometa every 6 weeks,

does anyone know how does green tea affect the platelets???
