I am 47 and divorced a year when I was diagnosed with Stage IIIA, ER/PR, heu-neu neg BC.  I have had 4 surgeries, been through chemo and radiation.  I need one more surgery in February.

I have to move in with my mother for 3 months in order to save the funds to relocate, get glasses, etc.  This is not a choice, it is a necessity.

I have a 9 1/2 year old Cocker Spaniel that needs to be fostered for 3 months.  I will provide all food, meds, etc.  I am willing to drive him to you in the northeast.

He is my baby and my family.  I have to foster out my two beautiful cats, too.

If anyone knows of any organizations, is interested, or knows someone who may be interested, please contact me.

 Thank you!!

Nancy

Have you contacted your local humane society? Some do fostering arrangements.

Where in the Northeast do you live?  Does your dog get along with other dogs or does your dog prefer to be an "only" dog? Are there any special care issues?

Yes, what state are you in, Nancy?  Are we talking a male/female?  What meds, for what ailment and do you keep her/his coat long and what care are you talking about?  Feb-April?  We had 2 cockers for 15 years until july of 2005.  Not sure I can help, but am willing to find out more info from you in regards to doing this? I'll Pm you my email if you want to exchange information?

Thank you all for your responses.  I've contacted the shelters.  I know about the Cocker Rescues up here.  There is one in Hobart, NY (west Albany).  That is where I found the Cocker that my mom has now.  There is also one in New Hampshire.

I live an hour north of Albany - Lake George. Alex is a male.  He can not be with other dogs due to medical history.  He is an Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia Survivor!  70% die the first week in treatment and then still not all make it.  I took him to a private, veterinary hospital located two hours away for almost two years.  Has allergies since then, one one eye was consumed by a cataract in a few months.  He gets an anti-epileptic liquid squirted on his food, and an antihistamine in his food.  I do not keep his coat long anymore.  He came from a good line and has a very thick, curly coat.  But, he's a happy dog.

The kicker is that, my parents (dad gone now) have been good tenants for 16 years.  My mom has the Cocker I mentioned and Alex is the only dog he likes. He was a rescue.  These are extenuating circumstances.  We are talking about some of the winter months (November - February).  It was not a problem during my dad's three months when he was hospitalized and I came up to help my mom and take care of his funeral arrangements.

I need to save up to relocate to Chapel Hill.  You know how Disability can be.  They took forever to review my app then denied it, as they do most.  They are like insurance companies.  They hope you give up or die in the meantime.  In NYS, it takes a year to get an administrative hearing.  If I go to work, I loose my health benefits - I'm in a special program of Medicare's.  My alimony designed to be half of my monthly living expenses so I could re-enter the job market and get back to my usual salary level, will end in February, and I haven't worked a day.  I have a Master's plus, so that adds on to the "overqualified" excuse.

I'm going to try to find someone who will take him weekdays, and he will "visit" on the weekends as he has in the past.

I'lll attach some photos to my profile soon - am at the library and no card reader.

    Hi Nancy--

I know Joan in Hobart, NY (Cocker Pals Rescue) and Toolie in New Hampshire (Life's Little Paws)and while they are both wonderful groups, I believe all of their foster spots are with other dogs.  I spoke to Toolie of Life's Little Paws yesterday about your dog, and she said she only had spots with other dogs, but would check and see if she has anyone who would foster who has no other dogs.

Also, I believe CSRNE also only has foster spots with other dogs.

I have a women who fostered for me in the past in CT who only is fostering cats now.  Let me know if you don't find anyone and I will see if she would be interested.  She is in Rocky Hill, CT.

Hi - thank you for your help and making the phonecalls.  I'll let you know how it goes.  I still talk to Joan and send pics of Sunny from time to time.  She brought him to my parents in Queensbury on July 14, 2005.  My dad was very weak and Sunny got in his lap and stayed there.  He knew.  There's a funny story of how we snuck ihm into the CCU.  All of the nursing staff knew and took turns coming in to "check the patient's blood pressure".  Now, he's my mom's comfort.

    Nancy
