Hello,  It has been a while since I've posted a question but I have been keeping up with everyone!  I am going thru EXTREME financial difficulty right now. My husband has been out of work for over 6 months and has not been able to find anything, I just filed bankruptcy and I am now trying to keep my electric, water and phone from being shut off!  I am desperately seeking advice on which antidepressants have worked the best for any of you?  I really need to take something to take the edge off.  My doctor had me try effexor (or the generic version) and I got soooo nauseous from them that I could not take them anymore. I have another appt with her next week so I thought I would ask around first.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Pam :)

    Pam,

Not taking any antidepressants but sometimes wish I was, but I read your post and just wanted to say my thoughts and prayers  are hoping the financial thing turns around soon. I am soo sorry you are going thru that. Can family help at all?

    Pam,

I am sorry you are going through such difficult times right now. (((Pam))).

Ask your doctor for effexor HR. I tried the generic effexor and had the same side effects as you! I saw my family doctor and he gave me samples of the effexor HR and said, these should work much better for you. He was right...they take the edge off, and help with hot flashes...and they don't make me feel sick!! Now my oc perscribed it for me, and my insurance will cover it, since I tried the generic and it didn't work for me.

    All the best to you.

My doc inititally prescribed Cymbalta, but it is new, and therefore, expensive ($237).

I weaned myself off that and now take desipramine 50 mg. It is generic and losts less expensive. I paid $11 for it!

These costs are the cash price, as I have Medicare and they cover prescriptions only up to a certain dollar amount - then you are on your own. Hugs and prayers that you feel better soon.

Everyone seems to have their own favorite antidepressent. I would second trying the sustained release effexor, particularly if you are on tamoxifen or dealing with hot flashes. Otherwise, any of the SSRIs would probably help and many of them have gone generic. I really liked good old Prozac (generic version) but had to shift to effexor because of the tamoxifen metablism issues.

I've been on both Paxel and Zoloft.  both worked well for me.  Maybe thw Paxel a little better but I did gain weight on it.

I have been on Lexapro for over 2 years. It works great for me. No SE's at all. Same for one of my BFFs. Will probably stay on it long term as depression is dominant in my family. :(
