There was a terrible crime committed in NY.
A declawed, seven pound cat named Norman was stomped to death by a huge man because he was mad at his girlfriend and thought his life was in danger-from the tiny, defenseless cat!

Norman the cat suffered terribly before he dragged himself to the bedroom and died.

Here are the stories:

The jury is deadlocked because of a columnist in the NY POST named Andrea Peyser- here are some of her articles about it:

PLEASE WRITE THE NY POST and PROTEST THIS "COLUMNIST"
and let's get justice for this beautiful, loving, cat who was tortured and murdered brutally.
I am sick about this.

Let's pray the jury convicts this monster- because there is a good chance he can get off scott free

THANK YOU!

Gina, I am just totaly sickened by what I am reading, this is terrible.

I just really wonder just how many poor aninals are treated this way, it doesn't bear thinking about. If I start to think I get into tears.

Just recently in our area a young man threw a dog from a high rise block, it wasn't killed outright, I was distraught, as I am a mad pasionate dog person.

Then, another young man put a cat in a washing machine, and killed it. The local paper printed his address, and I wrote him the most horrible threatening letter I have ever written. Apparently, so did hundreds more people.

I would personally string these people up, I would look them in the eye and grin as I shot them, I feel SO strongly about animal cruelty. What a lovely cat Norman was, I love ginger cats, may he rest in peace.

    Isabella.

This is VERY sad. I cannot click on the links for fear I'll be even more incensed! I'm not a cat lover but any animal cruelty is unacceptable!

I know its not nice but maybe they should put the guy in a cage with something his own size like a tiger or a lion and then we'll see who comes out second best.....and when the cats finished we'll give his a good pat and tell him what a good boy he is for teaching the nasty man a lesson.

Ok maybe a bit over the top but that cat was defenceless against a person so big....he wouldn't have even tried it if she had a pet tiger or lion....

Still waiting on the verdict, but the "columnist" who is mocking the animal lovers who are outraged is still posting more horrid stories - showing pics of the monster with his two new kittens.

It is one thing to have this horrible act committed- but when a columnist writes articles that sway the jury- is totally over the top to me.

    Thanks for understanding!

What kind of people are these jurists that they are being influenced by some columnist who knows diddly squat about the incident? It seems to me that they are more culpable than the columnist who is probably just trying to stir things up and increase her readership.

Hi Gina...This is crazy! I get sick to my stomach when I think about the horrible things some people do to animals. My mom is a retired nurse and in her spare time she is a court appointed Animal Advocate. She actually goes to the trials of people accused of abusing or neglecting animals. Because the animal has no voice, the judges and States Attorneys rely on my mom to help them with sentencing. Sometimes she is asked to testify on behalf of the animal. She meets regularly with the police officers who are assigned to a special Animal Abuse Task Force. Thanks for posting this...I will e-mail the Post and the columnist.

Norman looks like my cat, LoMein, but even if he didn't, I'm still incensed and hoping very much that this man gets the maximum sentence. I just wish the maximum were equal to what he would get if he had done the same to another person.  Animals, if anything, should be regarded as we do children, and when abused the sentences should be higher as animals, in general, have less recourse to protect themselves.  But I certainly hope that the jury is not being swayed by a columinist in the Post.  They are supposed to convict or not on the basis of the law and the facts.  I don't believe it's a good idea in general to sanction the press, whatever idiot stuff they write. But letters do make sense to let the paper know what their readers feel.  The market is very powerful as a sanction.  I could put a book together with the letters I've written the Times regarding Maureen Dowd, a marketplace of one I guess, since she's still there.

A year ago, two teenagers broke into a house and put the family pet of the people's house they broke into, into the microwave and microwaved him and yes killed it.  There was a lot of outrage here too.  Someone has been killing cats around this city, and no one has been caught for it.  My husband and I took our cat (Joey) over to one of our sons house when we went on vacation this year, and Joey didn't adjust well and somehow he got outside.  When we got back after much leaving food outside in our son's backyard, walking our son's neighborhood and calling him (for a week) he finally showed up one morning and my son's roommate brought him in.  Safe and at home now.  But throughout out all this searching for our fluffy family member, I went to the Humane Society and could not believe how many cats and kittens they had there in cages.  Sad.

Well the verdit is in... a hung jury!

ONE juror said that he believes he man was "fighting for his life" and it was self defense.

    To refresh the story-

The monster was dating Norman's mom. He woke her up in the middle of the night to complain that Norman bit him. They fought and she left the apt. When she came home the monster was gone and Norman was in his favorite hiding place dead.

Norman was fully de-clawed and weighed 7 pounds. The monster testified that Norman attacked him like a lion would in the wild- he even said Norman knocked him down.

    The Monster is 6'2".

Norman's injuries are too horrible to tell you about- but he was brutally murdered.

Today we find out if the trial will be re-tried or not.

That's very disappointing.  How could anyone think a cat could threatened anyone's life!  I don't think the jury was vetted properly, or the holdout lied.  Lots of men dislike cats--probably because of their independence.  Hope he goes back to trial and I get called!

Anne, you and me both on that trial would be something!

Your cat is beautiful... a ginger version of my furbaby-

Beautiful as well.  We have a big problem with LoMein as he hates being combed and he is cleaning himself all the time creating fur lumps--and he hates it when we cut them out.  Not sure how to manage this problem.

I have another cat, Rachel, and I feel bad that I posted LoMein's picture and not hers, so here it is.

We'd probably have to lie about our feelings for cats while being vetted.  I'm not sure if I would do it, but I might!
