Advice for active women
I will be having a bi-lateral mastectomy soon and even though I am still confused as whether to do recon or not, right now I am leaning towards no reconstruction. I am very active (walk/run, play tennis, hike) and my biggest concern is finding a bra and form that will work very well for me during these times. For those of you out there who are exercise enthusiasts like me, have you found something that works well for you, a bra where you feel confident with no shifting, etc.? Also, I am just starting to learn about all of the options for us who choose not to go with reconstruction. I am wondering though..don't they have bras out there where you don't have to insert a form - where it is all built in? Seems to me this would be a better option.
I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks everyone!

I am also having a bi-lateral mastectomy. I decided not to do reconstruction because I climb and am very concedrned with the function of my body , not with its form. Another climber I know who has also had a bilateral mastectomy does not wear a form when climbing or exercising. I will probably do that because it is so easy.
I hope all goes well for you.

I had a bilateral mastectomy with no reconstruction almost two years ago. I am also active and that was one of my reasons for choosing non-reconstruction--I wanted to take the least possible risk that my ability to continue my active life would be impaired. I've been very happy with my decision.
What I've found works best for me when I work out and when I walk or hike is wearing Amoena Style 126 leisure forms with a Still You Tank Top (which is really a classic spaghetti-strap camisole WITH pockets). The forms are made of foam and are light as air yet they stay in place within the camisole pockets. I wore these on a hiking trip and they worked great--almost like having nothing on. I almost always wear my Still You top with a tee shirt over it, but it could be worn alone as well.
I started a non-profit website, BreastFree.org, as a place where women can get information to help them enjoy living breast-free. If you check out the site, you'll find a link to the 126 forms in the Breast Forms section of the site and a link to the Still You top in the Bras and Camisoles section.
I hope other women will be along soon to offer their suggestions.

I had a mastectomy seven years ago and use Amoena forms and bras...
I play tennis three times a week and swim among other things

I just had a second mastectomy- prophylactic this time- after having my first mastectomy last year. I am very active- swim, bike, run; triathlons; hiking, etc. I'm opting at this point to go with no forms or bras of any kind. For me the look works (several people have said this spontaneously) because I have a small build and the flat look fits my overall physique. There are lots of women who don't have much on top because they never did. I think people will assume I am just one of them.
Maybe I can create a little bust by building up my pecs- it worked for my brother,

I went to a party where everyone had to wear a dress and I noticed some men look pretty darn good in a dress even though they didn't use any padding. I think it is the combination of well developed pecs and the style of the dress.

Allyson,
Yours sounds like a great solution. I'm also small, but somehow I think my top looks too ultra-flat when I don't wear anything. If only the pecs solution would really work--that would solve the problem.
