Just a thought that crossed my mind today as I sat on my butt in front of the computer.  Not moving a muscle except for those in my fingers.  Am am getting to be as bad as half the kids in America.

Does anyone limit the amount of time they allow themselves to spend online?  Anyone who counters time on the web with equal time off the butt?

Whenever I see an hour coming up spare I dash to my computer, I can't live without it !!

Sometimes I dash to my sewing machine, can't live without that either !!

I TRY an even it out with my passion for gardening, but nowadays I need help with the heavy stuff.

My backside has slowly gone up 3 sizes thru the years, and,  what the heck, I'm not going to live on lettuce leaves to bring it down again, nor will I give up my computer !!

My husband wants to buy me a mini-laptop. He says the one I have is too heavy for us to lug with us on every trip! Tongue out

As long as I have my PC, I am entertained~~~and usually not doing something far more important!Embarassed

However, just think of the lifeline our computers provide for so many of us, especially during the bad days of Tx and recovery.Laughing

OK Tina...so here you are...I keep having to leave the quiet comfort of the Spa thread to find you!!!  Yes, I do think computers make you lazy!!!  You get so you think you can do just about anything and everything on the computer and you aren't using those muscles!!!

Seriously, I became a computer addict when I was doing chemo and it took many months to break the habit.   I was getting less exercise, I wasn't doing enough....so I consciously had to limit myself, and you know...I became more productive and life got better.

Last year I took the laptop to Maine and it nearly took over the trip.  This year I was under strict orders to leave it home!!!  I now limit my daily check in to one thread.

I am sure my addiction to my laptop has contributed to my weight gain.....I start out just wanting to chck my email.....Then, before I know it, I am here, on my quiting forum, or checking into my Catholic ones.  Wen that is all done, I'm playing SCRABBLE....which I love....

The computer has been a blessing...allowing me to meet so many wonderful people, and having you guys to talk to during this stressful time has been wonderful....However, I admit to spending way too much time sitting here in my small recliner...feet up....TV on......  I need to start moving more....and being online less...But...It's hard.....

I bought my first computer about twelve or thirteen years ago, and took to it like a duck to water.  I use it mainily for communicaions...email and forums.....but I do research on it, too....I never use a phone book anymore....I Google everything!

In spite of the weight I have gained, I would not trade the friends I have made online.....No way.

So...Time to have my shower, do some quilting and head out for a walk!  Got to MOVE!!!

    Love to all,

    Sandy

I am feeling a bit sheepish at this point, remembering the days when I did not have internet service.  One of my friends kept urging me to get it, saying I was living in the dark ages.  (Probably around 1996 or 7)  My answer, so prescient, was to say that if I had internet I would spend all day surfing.  Well, that has almost come true.  Not all day, but a lot of time.

Honestly, I have benefited so much from the internet.  Finding this site was a godsend last year when I was getting over chemo and wondering if and when my hair would come back.  And I've made some lovely friends online, met one in the flesh so far and hope to meet more.

The problem is not the internet, it's ME spending too much time here.  Time I could be moving time I could be productive.  So, I think it's time that I consciously limit, or balance, my time online.  They say the first step to solving a problem is to recognize it.  Sooooo, I am going to make myself go for that 1/2 hour walk, for starters, at lunchtime, instead of checking in with my email.  Will limit myself to only a few of my hobby chat groups.  Help me think of more ways.

BTW, I don't even have my computer in my house so I am not on it between the hours, usually of about 5PM and 9AM.  It's that period in between, the normal work day, that I indulge my appetite for surfing.  And, I never take my laptop with me anywhere.  So, I am only addicted when it is convenient. LOL

Edited to say:  I now have my computer on a high table so that I can stand while online.  At least I'm not sitting all the time, right?

Well, now to check in on my few favorite threads and then try to keep off until later this afternoon.  Must work on that plump butt!  It's nice to know I am not alone.

A computer is just a part of one's life now.  I worked with a computer for many many years. I remember when only one person could use a computer in one office and yes folks, you were likely paid a little bit more for that skill.  I watch my weight closely...go for walks a lot, and I am buying a treadmill to get me through the winter, but hey, walking is one of my favourite hobbies, so it is easy for me.  Next week I am going back to work (found a new job), and I am thrilled to find a job where I can move around once again (as opposed to a desk job).  It has been 23 years since I haven't had a desk job, happy to be going back to the former employment type.

Yes, I am on my computer way too much.  Should go out and take a walk or do stuff around the house instead.
